2000 Volkswagen Golf Gls Tdi Mk Iv (alh Engine) 4-door, 5-speed Manual Trans. on 2040-cars
Massillon, Ohio, United States
2000 Volkswagen Golf GLS TDI MK IV (ALH engine) 4-door, 5-speed manual transmission. No check-engine mal-function indicated (CEL light is not lit). My dad bought this new in 1999 for his personal use at his company and passed it on to me with 321,000 miles when I graduated college in 2009. It now has 374,000 miles, but still runs well and gets GREAT gas mileage, around 50 mpg (and I have kept a detailed spreadsheet of all fill-ups which I can share with you). In the past year it has easily endured road trips from Massachusetts to Ohio to Virginia to Massachusetts to Colorado, and I just drove it back to Ohio from Colorado a few weeks ago. AM/FM/Cassette stereo with 6-CD player that loads through the trunk. Alloy wheels and good tires. Clean interior without rips or tears, save some trim around the driver-side door that has partly come off. Never been in an accident. Non-smoker's and non- pet owner's car. Power windows, mirrors, locks, Cruise Control and sunroof all work properly. Driver and Passenger airbags. Two remote and one valet immobilizer keys. Around 300,000 miles, Dad had Chris Hill of Kraftwerk in Boston rebuild the head, install new piston rings, new VR6 clutch, replace turbo with low-mileage used turbo, timing belt and water pump replaced, intake manifold cleaned, injector nozzles replaced, and exhaust cat replaced. Clear Massachusetts title. Clean CarFax. Can send more photos on request.
This is my daily driver, but it does have a few imperfections: - A/C is all there but hasn't worked since I've had the car. - Some minor rust spots, some minor scratches and small dent on the rear driver-side door. - Occasionally intermittent starting trouble, which I believe is due to air getting into the fuel lines (bubbles appear in clear fuel line). - OBD II port sometimes doesn't work (I've had to jiggle the wires to get communication to work during state safety inspections), but I have a replacement that needs to be spliced into place. - Rear hatch handle is partly broken, but still opens and secures hatch properly. - Sideview mirrors have lost much of their mirrored backing, but they still work and operate. - Glovebox handle is missing and glovebox won't open. - Indicator lights on A/C, air, and heat knobs don't work. - Center armrest flip-top is broken. - Small crack rear driver-side lens Pickup in person only. Winning bidder pays $300 non-refundable deposit due through Paypal within 48 hours and rest of payment (in cash, U.S Postal Service money order, or cashier's check drawn from a major bank) due within 7 days after end of auction in person when you pick car up. other search terms: volkswagon, Jetta, manuel, biodiesel, wvo, deisel, diesle, Gulf, Rabbit, Beetle, hatchback, fuel efficient |

Volkswagen Golf R 400 will come to US
Wed, Apr 1 2015If you're like us, and have been drooling over the Volkswagen Golf R 400 concept since it was first unveiled in Beijing last year, we've got some potentially good news for you. Dr. Heinz-Jakob Neusser, member of the board of management responsible for development at Volkswagen, told Autoblog that the Golf R 400 will definitely come to the US... if it gets the production green light, anyway. Neusser says that the US market has had a hugely positive reaction to the seventh-generation Golf family. The new hatch won both Motor Trend Car of the Year and North American Car of the Year, and Volkswagen has expanded the Golf range to include a bunch of new variants, including the electric e-Golf and recently released SportWagen. The Golf R 400 would "fit very well into this strategy," says Neusser. The hotter Golfs have been successful, too. When Volkswagen opened the order books for the 2015 Golf R, the yearly allocation for the US sold out in just 11 hours. Neusser says the R 400 will "show how sporty the Golf family can be." We're certainly in favor of this hottest hatch hitting our market. All we need now, is for Volkswagen to officially give it the go-ahead.
An inside look at VW's new California R&D center
Thu, 18 Oct 2012Less than two months ago, the Volkswagen Group opened a new facility in Oxnard, California (about an hour's drive west of Los Angeles). The $27 million investment, touted as Test Center California (TCC), serves as a research and development lab testing emissions for all brands under Volkswagen's umbrella, including its newest member, Porsche. While still not fully operational, we toured the new 64,000-square-foot building last week and had a first-hand opportunity to see just how much work is involved testing engines and meeting increasingly stringent government emissions standards.
Replacing a similar facility established in 1990 in Westlake Village (about 20-minutes east of the new location), our guide explained how Oxnard was chosen for its temperate climate, varied regional terrain for test drives and low altitude. (The area is only a few feet above sea level - a critical parameter when instrument testing emissions.) The new facility is capable of analyzing hundreds of vehicles, prototypes and customer-owned vehicles, annually.
Most interesting to us was the huge stainless steel climate chamber, with a massive four-wheel dynamometer that allows VW to test running vehicles in both scorching desert and freezing climates without ever leaving the building (an Audi Q7 was running in place during our visit). We were also mesmerized by the countless storage tanks and intricate plumbing of chemicals, stored in both liquid and gas states, needed to perform the variety of tests. Lastly, we took a look at Bugatti's service center on the west coast, located completely within the new center. While there were no supercars on site, the facility is equipped with plenty of spare forged wheels (mounted with expensive Michelin PAX tires) and a Veyron-specific repair jig that allows the vehicle to be completely disassembled, if needed. It is a shame that the facility, which set off all of our automotive geek alerts, is closed to the public.
New info on how VW, Porsche, Audi V6 TDI engine cheat works
Mon, Aug 8 2016The German newspaper Bild am Sonntag is reporting that US investigators have found three pieces of software that work in concert to turn off the emissions control equipment in certain diesel models after a set period of time. The engine in question, the 3.0-liter TDI turbodiesel, was found in certain Volkswagen Touareg, Audi Q7, and Porsche Cayenne models – the sale of which was suspended in the US late last year. Since most emissions compliance testing takes around 20 minutes, the software in the three VW Group models shuts off the emissions control equipment after 22 minutes, a straightforward end run around the testing. Remember that the 3.0-liter TDI engines aren't included in the big buyback and recall program announced for the smaller 2.0-liter, four-cylinder TDI engines. The 3.0-liter engines will likely get their own program, but we don't know when to expect it or exactly what it will look like. Last month, California rejected a proposed fix for the larger TDI engines, and VW went back to the drawing board. Since the company is unlikely to create two fixes, one for California and one for the rest of the nation, the company can't really proceed until they figure out a solution California will accept. The EPA hasn't officially commented on the report, and we don't know how Bild am Sonntag came across the information, but we'll be closely watching what emerges after this report. Related Video:
