Let's get to it.Bought the car from my room mate in 99 in TX.It is a TX car originally.$13,370 sticker..basic info 124hp 2.0L fuel injection,FWD,sport transmission,Strut front, torsion rear, four disc brakes,Dual euro headlights, front and rear spoilers,Recaro seats,% speed manual, tornado red paint,Ac..He babied and adored it and all daily maintenance was up to par.I continued with this..Since I owned it I have had the top end done.I used a local garage and they did all this work but it was a bit to complicated for them, hands up in the air I took to an official VW shop and got it finished.Next was the transmission. My clutch disconnected and I was trying to dry shift it to get home.Should have stayed in first but I thought a second gear may get me home quicker.Well it didn't.New transmission from GEX and installed later and we were off and running.Had Brakes done,Put new TT exhaust on,fresh tires and shocks from Big O who was my neighbor who tuned the suspension proper. My work takes me in and out of state so this car has been stored most of my ownership.Inside mind you.Come back after a few years and needed a new fuel pump,Ran around stored again,Back into it drove it to colorado and on the way home she just died on me.Seemed the fuel system was the problem.Stored again and returned two years ago..take to mechanic with fuel system, injectors needing cleaning?and a Dry bearing sound. He takes the easy work of replacing the AC unit..but does not get it running!Cleans injectors etc..bolts all this back on to a compression ratio of #1=120 #2=120 #3=80 #4=120 or 100..I was on the understanding that we were to rebuild the engine he was on the understanding to screw me and run.Car was running when parked. And I have let it be till today.Again stored inside..I just don't have the good mechanics in this area to deal with this car.Nor the time and to many other projects..all of which I can work on due to my local garage climate..need my garage space so it's up for grabs to the right person.
The Good:No major accident ever,Thule racks minus the bike attachments in photo,Yokohama Tires have plenty of tread(New really),shocks suspension tuned with new tires,Low miles transmission,TT exhaust,Alpine pull out deck,Brakes have low miles, sunroof works fine,Recaro seats,Momo gear knob,Prime wheels,Tinted windows. The Bad:Passenger lock does not work,Prime wheels need steel wool or elbow grease compounds to get styled, missing rear right wheel prime cap, rear seats burnt along with my entire house,Rear window tint is falling off,Headliner falling down(how unusual for a vw)dash crack on top(normal)console has been cut for a radio that is no longer there, leather on steering wheel is worn on top, burn holes in seats(one or two each)still lovely sitting in Recaros,Plastics on car need to be played with but no dramas they are not flying off while driving,Rear hatch will not stay up on its own-needs viagra in the form of two new hydraulic hatch poles..has paint pealing off here, scratch here, dent there..but general the body is solid, hood paint seems to want to be a lighter red then the rest of the car.. The Ugly:ENGINE NEEDS REBUILD-This car is not running,no battery and has no warranty. The round out..Good cult classic, solid shell with all working components accept the engine.Looking for someone who knows or lives in an area that can get the work done.I would not be selling this if I had access to a proper mechanic. And I just don't have the time anymore, nor the room for it to do it another day.Otherwise she is worth the fix. Sold as is where is.I have a short window to sell this and get it out of here.Once the auction is done I need it gone,or we arrange to pick it up at another place at buyers expense.Be ready to roll!!Any questions ask them.I have explained this the best I can.It is obvious what it is and described accordingly.Few receipts pryer to me buying are about and all/most receipts when I have owned it are here.I am starting this listing at what I have paid the last mechanic who did the work.So if this was two years back..I would be giving this car away on the first bid. It's a fast fun car that should not be sitting any longer in my opinion.Needs to be out terrorizing the streets again. |

VW builds 250,000th Passat in Chattanooga in just two years
Sun, 26 May 2013It hasn't been without incident or union organizing drive, but the Volkswagen plant in Chattanooga, TN has built its 250,000 Passat in just a little over two years. The Night Blue Passat TDI with black leather has come just two years and five weeks after the first customer car came off the line on April 18, 2011.
In the last year the plant operated at the 150,000-unit capacity that it was intended for, but the downturn in Passat sales and subsequent worker layoffs mean it will be a challenge to repeat the feat. The plant does have the world's largest solar park, though, and you can't take that away from them.
You'll find the official hand-clapping in the press release below.
Editors' Picks August 2021 | Honda Civic, Mercedes S-Class and more
Thu, Sep 9 2021This month of Editors' Picks saw us award the honor to a couple of redesigned stalwarts like the Honda Civic and Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Plus, a new crossover that splits the difference between the compact and subcompact class takes home the prize. On top of this, we'll introduce you to a new term: midcompact. We'll be using this to describe those in-between crossovers that are a tad too small to be considered compact, but too large to neatly fit into the subcompact class. For a few examples of these "midcompact" cars, we'll point you to the Ford Bronco Sport, Kia Seltos and VW Seltos. In case you missed our previous Editors' Picks posts, here’s a quick refresher on whatÂ’s going on here. We rate all the new cars we drive with a 1-10 score. Cars that are exemplary in their respective segments get EditorsÂ’ Pick status. Those are the ones weÂ’d recommend to our friends, family and anybody whoÂ’s curious and asks the question. The list that youÂ’ll find below consists of every car we rated in August that earned an EditorsÂ’ Pick. 2021 Genesis G70 2022 Genesis G70 View 26 Photos Quick take: Genesis hits all the right buttons with its G70. It's attractive, fun to drive and can be had for a fair price. Enthusiasts should give it a shot before taking home one of its German competitors. Score: 8 What it competes with: Alfa Romeo Giulia, Lexus IS, Acura TLX, Infiniti Q50, Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Cadillac CT4, Volvo S60 Pros: Sharp handler, stunning exterior looks, strong engines Cons: Average interior, loses manual option, small backseat and trunk From the editors: News Editor Joel Stocksdale — "I was already a big fan of the Genesis G70. It has brilliant handling, and the twin-turbo V6 is a beast. It's even a bargain against the competition. And Genesis just made it look a lot better. I wish they'd done a bit more to update the interior, but it's still not a bad cabin. Besides, you won't think too much about it when you're hustling down a fun back road." Features Editor James Riswick — "Yes, it is small, but in a sport sedan segment where "sport" means increasingly less, the G70 still delivers (in part because of that smallness).
Touring the Volkswagen Museum in Wolfsburg
Mon, 23 Sep 2013Forgive the ribbon up top - this isn't so much of a Read This as a Look At This. Ran When Parked took a tour of the sprawling Volkswagen Museum in Wolfsburg, and while there's a spot of text about the different and unique vehicles on display in the rotating exhibits, it's largely the collection of pictures of odd, one-off VW-badged cars and vans that excites. If you're a fan of the weird and wild, this is a post you'll want to look at.
As RWP points out, this is the larger, but less busy, museum targeted purely at Volkswagen products. The smaller AutoStadt museum, meanwhile, covers a much broader swath, with products from other Volkswagen Group members. Click on over to view the extensive gallery of high-quality images from Ran When Parked.
