I'm selling my VW Vanagon that my family had lots of fun times camping in. The van was given to our family by my wife's father who drove it from Oregon to Illinois. The kids are grown and gone now, so it is time to sell it. It ran well, and was maintained by a local foreign car shop until it was parked at my farm. Unfortunately it has been sitting for eight years. It had battery/electrical problems and the batteries were constantly dying despite new ones being put in. (It has two batteries) Evidently some sort of short. I had it worked on several times without any success. I had always intended to get it running again so I kept putting off selling it. It is now a project, and will need to be loaded on a trailer to be moved (tires are flat). I haven't tried to start it. It had no other mechanical problems that I was aware of when I stopped driving it. In one of the pictures there are several sets of keys. The starter ignition was replaced, so there are door keys and ignition keys.
I have included many pictures of the interior and exterior so you can get a good idea of what your bidding on. I noticed a dent in the rear bumper that is seen in the photo. The camper is clearly in need of lots of TLC, or perhaps could be used for parts. I was hoping someone that has the interest and skills to do the repairs might be interested in it. The paint is in very poor condition from sitting, but there is only one rust spot as seen in the close up photo of the side. The windshield has a small stone chip in it-pictured, but never expanded while we had it. The camper top popped up effortlessly this morning. There is one bad spot in the canvas at the back (see photo) the rest is in very nice usable condition. Two of the hub caps are missing, one hubcap can be seen on the floor inside. The side slider works well, and slides very easily. The other doors and rear hatch works and seals well too. I just checked the bed in the pop up and it is in excellent condition--looks like it hasn't been used. This is the Transporter model so it has seating and a table, but no kitchen. Our family of four slept in it very comfortably. As can be seen in the interior photos the seat cushions need to be recovered. It also has the VW interior curtains that came with the Vanagon (camper) model. It has the Vanagon air conditioner. I had it worked on many many times and it worked off and on, but was a constant pain--and money pit--it did not work when I last parked it. I put a new Sony CD player in and several nice speakers-one has lost its front cover--there are six speakers in total. The front dash has dried and cracked from the sun (see photo). Please feel free to ask questions if there is something I've missed, or you would like me to take another photo of a part I missed. I will reply to questions promptly. I would be happy to show it if you want to come to central Illinois to look at it. **Just to be completely clear, this VW Vanagon is presently not running or drivable. It must be hauled on a trailer. Please do not bid unless you plan to pay for it, and haul it away. It is sitting, and can remain where it is for another month or so until mid July if that helps with scheduling a pick up. I'd be happy to discuss any arrangements for picking up the van. BUT it must be paid for in full within a week of the close of the auction! I have the clear Illinois title for the van. |

Volkswagen bringing new Tiguan to Frankfurt
Sun, Sep 6 2015As expected, Volkswagen will introduce the new Tiguan crossover at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show. While the brand hasn't quite gotten on the endless teaser train, VW's German Facebook page has released a simple shot of the new crossover covered up on the Wolfsburg factory line. We're not able to learn much from the single image released by VW Deutschland, as the sheet being used hides virtually all the body's details. The caption for the image is no help either, simply saying that the first Tiguan for Frankfurt has rolled off the Wolfsburg line. So yeah, that's about it. But while this image isn't terribly informative, we already know quite a bit about the new Tiguan. Its looks will likely be inspired by the Cross Coupe GTE and CrossBlue Concepts, while additional body styles could be offered later in the CUV's life. For performance fans, there will likely be a 300-horsepower R model, in addition to the standard array of gas and diesel engines. Check out the image from VW Germany's Facebook page, and then be sure to head back in a few weeks for the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show.
Recharge Wrap-up: Arcimoto SRK video, BAIC EV at CES
Tue, Jan 12 2016Kelley Blue Book took a spin in the Arcimoto SRK three-wheeled EV at CES in Las Vegas. In the video above, KBB Managing Editor Micah Muzio gets behind the handlebars for a spin around an empty parking lot. He notes a gradual throttle tip-in, though from the video, it appears the trike has a bit of pep. While the hydraulic brake pedal requires a bit of extra effort, the regenerative brake lever located on the right handlebar is effective and easy to use. The steering is a little heavy, but manageable, at low speeds. He calls it "kind of a fun little conveyance," adding, "Maybe this is the future." See the full review in the video above. CARB Chairman Mary Nichols spoke with German television about Volkswagen's emissions scandal. In a photo she posted on Twitter, Nichols can be seen in front of cameras with CARB's test bay in the background. In the bay is a Volkswagen Jetta TDI. She says in her tweet, "Discussing VW cheating case w/German TV in front of ARB lab test bay & '07 diesel Jetta. Time to move on to #EVs!" Late last year, a group of environmentalists and Silicon Valley leaders – Elon Musk included – sent Nichols an open letter suggesting CARB help urge Volkswagen to give up on diesels and focus on electric vehicles. See Nichols's post on Twitter. South Korea's most popular EV is the Renault Samsung Motors (RSM) SM3 ZE (also known as the Renault Fluence ZE). The all-electric vehicle has sold 1,767 units since its arrival in Korea since November 2013, with 2015 sales reaching 1,043 units. This makes one in three EVs in Korea a RSM SM3 ZE. The car has been selected as Korea's official government vehicle, and RSM has supplied over 100 EV taxis, 60 of which are in Seoul. Read more in the press release from Renault. BAIC EV announced it has established an R&D center in Detroit at CES. It will work with its other centers in Silicon Valley and Aachen, Germany in order to develop automotive technology and evaluate global demand. The EV branch of the Chinese automaker also debuted its i-Link information system, which uses 4G to connect car telematics to the cloud. The i-Link system also provides wireless phone charging, remote inquiry services and connects sensing technologies to the internet. Read more in the press release below.
Jalopnik and Consumer Reports see who can pull off the best snow drift
Fri, Feb 20 2015The weather throughout much of the United States is pretty awful at the moment with some combination of extremely low temperatures, inches of snow and maybe some ice underneath it all. The folks at Jalopnik and Consumer Reports are making the absolute best out of a difficult situation by heading to CR's snow-covered test track and attempting to make the longest drift in a quartet of very different performance vehicles. Jalopnik brought along a Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S Wagon, a Subaru WRX STI, a BMW 228i and a 1973 Volkswagen Baja Bug (heck yeah!) for the challenge. Also, the track was perfect for this group, with a mix of packed snow in places and still a few inches of unsullied powder in spots too. Ostensibly the goal was to get the tail to step out through a particular corner, but in reality this was more about having hilarious fun in the snow with fast cars. The result just looks like the best time humanly possible in this weather.
