Panel on 2040-cars

Up for sale is this very special and rare bus. It is one of the final bullet nose, walk
through buses ever produced in Germany.
I have a certificate of Authenticity from the Stiftung Auto Museum
Volkswagen. It was built on January 29th,
1962 and left the factory on January 30th, 1962. So, it is officially a 1962, with tons of characteristics of
a 1961 bullet nose and many characteristics from a 1962. The certificate also shows that it is a rare
walkthrough delivery vehicle. This is
why there are no louvers in the rear cargo area above the motor louvers like
the regular panel vans. You will also
notice that it has the separate slide rails for the front seats that were a “1962
ONLY” option. You will also notice that
it has the “curved top edges of the speedo cluster” from a 1962 and later bus
with its original date code 1/62 fuel gauge. This vehicle is finished in a tribute theme to the “Porsche
Renndienst” panels, which basically translates to a “Porsche Race Service”
vehicle. Exterior: It was sanded down to bare metal, to fix any rust issues and
then sprayed in the brilliant red you see in the finished product. The paint is the one stage acrylic that was
then sanded down again and painted again to ensure a nice deep shine. All seals, moldings, chrome mirrors, rubber
stops, lights, door handles, latches and bumpers were replaced or
addressed. Finally, it got the Porsche
themed livery that makes it stand out like a toy or piece of candy! Interior It was also sanded down, sprayed in light grey to contrast
beautifully with the exterior. New kick
panels, door panels and upholstery was installed. Also, all dome lights and dash gauges were
addressed. The original speedometer with
a 1/62 date code was removed, opened, greased, re-sealed, and re-set back to
reflect the zero miles it has it its new life.
It currently has over 100 miles and counting. The original fuel gauge also went through the
same process. New floor mat in the
driver area and in the walkthrough areas is also installed. Motor Fresh new 1776 motor with 91.5 mm Mahle pistons was built
just for this bus. It has vintage dual
40 Kadrons with the mesh filter housings freshly dipped in chrome and the
covers were too. New wires, crank
pulley, alternator, distributor, premium ceramic coated exhaust, doghouse fan
shroud, pulley tin, ceramic coated J-tubes,
ceramic coated dual muffler by Bugpack, brand new Bosch battery, and tons of
other parts too! Mechanicals Fresh new shock absorbers, new brake lines, new master
cylinder, new wheel cylinders all 4 corners, new brake shoes, new tie rod, new fluids in reduction boxes. Wheels and tires Factory correct 15 bus wheels, sand blasted and powder
coated. New white wall tires 195/60/15.
New chrome hub caps and new valve stems. |

Volkswagen rules out more potent Polo R
Wed, Dec 10 2014Volkswagen may be planning ever more powerful versions of its Golf, but don't expect that lust for power to trickle down to the smaller Polo anytime soon as the German automaker has reportedly ruled out the prospect of making a Polo R. This according to Autovisie, the automotive section of Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, in speaking to VW representatives at the launch of the new Polo GTI. Where the previous Polo GTI offered 177 horsepower, the new one packs 189 and is available with either a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The company briefly offered a Polo WRC Street with 220 horsepower, but that was only for a limited edition that Autovisie says will not be repeated for mainstream production. Which may just be for the best, as far as we're concerned, as no versions of the Polo are offered in the US, and we don't need yet another piece of forbidden fruit we can't get our hands on. The decision may seem at odds with the Polo R WRC rally machine with which Volkswagen has been dominating the World Rally Championship for the past two seasons, but was likely made in order to keep the Polo from infringing on Golf territory. VW currently offers the Golf GTI with 210 horsepower and the Golf R with 292, and showcased an even more powerful version with nearly 400 hp.
World Car Of The Year down to its final four
Wed, 13 Mar 2013
Judges for the World Car of the Year Award have narrowed down the finalists to just four vehicles. Out of a total of 42 entries, only the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, Porsche Boxster/Cayman, Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ/Toyota GT-86 and Volkswagen Golf remain standing. For Volkswagen, this marks the second consecutive year the company has had an entry among the finalists, and the fourth time since 2009. In order to qualify, a vehicle must be on sale on two continents during the span of time between January 1, 2013 and May 30, 2013. A panel of 66 journalists from 23 countries then vote on the finalists.
Three vehicles have made the cut for the last round of voting on the 2013 World Performance Car as well, with the Cayman/Boxster and FR-S/BRZ/GT-86 running against the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta. Meanwhile, the Renault Zoe, Tesla Model S and Volvo V60 Plug-In Hybrid are duking it out for the World Green Car Award. Finally, the World Car Design of the Year Award is up for grabs between the Aston Martin Vanquish, Jaguar F-Type, and the Mazda6. Check out the full press release below. Overall winners will be presented at the 2013 New York Auto Show.
Who wants to pay a million dollars for a VW Beetle?
Mon, Jun 1 2015The Volkswagen Beetle was always envisioned as a cheap mode of transportation, but now one is being offered for over $1 million by a dealer in the company's home base of Wolfsburg, Germany. So just what makes this Beetle so special? It's not the first one made, and it's not the last one made – but it comes close: This particular example is an Ultima Edicion – one of the final Bugs made in Mexico before production ended even there in 2003. It's decked out in beige with a black fabric interior and none – repeat, none – of the bells and whistles. With less than 75 miles on the odometer, it offers one wealthy buyer the rare opportunity to get an original Beetle (not some modernized incarnation thereof) in factory-fresh condition, which no one has been able to do for over a dozen years now. Does that make it worth the million-euro ($1.1M) asking price? Not if you ask us, no. But then we wouldn't count ourselves among the most dedicated Beetle fanatics out there.
