Up for auction is my 1988 VW Vanagon GL, water cooled 2.1L that was rebuilt by the previous owner who was a VW collector. It has factory ac, however it does not blow cold, I am guessing it needs freon, but everything is there and looks to be in good shape.

It is in excellent shape, the paint shines like new and the body is very straight, does not appear to have had any bodywork, there is no rust whatsoever, and has been garage kept.

The interior is very clean, looks almost new, it has custom replacement deep pile carpet along with custom floor mats that are a very nice touch.

It has an automatic transmission that shifts as it should and despite the low power output of these engines, it cruises down the road effortlessly at 60-65mph and gets reasonable fuel mileage.

There is a new Pioneer CD player that accepts a USB or plug in Ipod, it also has two amplifiers with front and back aftermarket speakers with subwoofer box. It looks like it was professionally installed and sounds very nice!

I am not really into loud music, I don't even listen to CD's but it's very loud and clear and was already installed in the van when I got it.

It has aftermarket VW wheels with like new tires that really bring out the look of the van!

The van is driven daily and has recent PA Inspection.

I drive it to work everyday and get a lot of attention! It is very reliable and recently took it on a long fishing trip with my family. As you can tell by the car seat, it is a very comfortable family vehicle that is a classic!

Ok, let's get to the issues I am aware of that could use attention and should be expected with any vehicle of this vintage, I haven't fixed any of them because they don't bother me and adds to the character of the vehicle.

Known Minor Issues~

The neutral safety switch is goofy. You basically have to push the automatic shifter forward slightly to start or put it in neutral. Not a big deal, adjustment maybe?

The AC does not blow cold (Open all the windows and your fine! Even during recent 90 degree weather in Philly).

There is a slight exhaust leak that makes it sound like the old flat four air cooled VW vans, I like the way it sounds.

The Temperature gauge is not accurate and has never read correctly, it has a red light that blinks and goes up but the engine does not overheat or have any issues. I did a quick Google search and it seems to be a common problem.

It has a new temp sensor and water pump that was installed right before I got the van, it was a concern when I first bought the van, but the previous owner assured me it was not a problem and have not had an issue even after extended highway trips and every day driving.

So if your looking for a nice vintage family van that will most likely continue to appreciate in value, take a good look at the pics and bid with confidence!

I would like this transaction to go as smooth as possible, please ask any and all questions before you bid, I am a used car dealer and my feedback score is 100% and speaks for itself. I would like to keep it that way.

You are purchasing a used vehicle that does not come with a warranty and should be considered AS-IS where is. You are welcome to have your mechanic come take a look at it on your behalf before bidding.

A $500 non-refundable deposit is due immediately at the end of the auction via PayPal and I will allow 7 days to pick up the vehicle with the balance due in cash only.

Again please check out the pics and ask any and all questions before bidding. If you have a zero or very low feedback score please email me before bidding.

I prefer to respond to all questions concerning the vehicle via email which I will then add to the listing to eliminate answering the same question over and over.

Thanks and good luck bidding!

P.S. the mileage will be more than what is listed since I am still driving the van to work every day.

Tesla tires turning on Stretchla Vanagon EV conversion project

Tue, Jan 7 2014

It is one thing to say you are going to Frankenstein a Tesla Model S with a pair of Siamese-twinned Volkswagen Vanagons and quite another to actually start taking your newly-acquired, smashed-up electric sedan apart in an effort to bring it back to life. Otmar Ebenhoech is doing just that, and having no small successes along the way. The Stretchla project, as it is being called, has officially started and our protagonist has put together another bit of video to document his progress and let us know about some of the different challenges he's encountered and conquered. While our original post about this endeavor featured video of the stretched Vanagon's drivetrain removal, this latest installment focuses on the Model S. Otmar received the Tesla in less-than-operable condition. Otmar received the Tesla in less-than-operable condition and has been tackling some of the basic problems one might expect to encounter: lots of error messages and an electrically disconnected battery pack. Without the aid of a manual or technical diagrams, he's removed the battery pack and discovered why it wasn't sending power to the car. Scroll below to watch the ten-minute presentation and celebrate some initial victories. You can also check out the official Stretchla blog for more photos and updates, including the most recent one that discusses how he talked himself into paying (*spoiler alert) $42,000 for a wrecked, non-functional electric car, along with more recent struggles with the steering rack. Hit us up in the comments to let us know what kind of trouble you would get into with a Model S drivetrain of your own. This content is hosted by a third party. Lincoln Aviator returns, VW ponders pickups, and Subaru Forester endures

Mon, Apr 2 2018

NEW YORK – Volkswagen is taking a hard look at a pickup truck, the Lincoln Aviator is back, and you love old Subarus (we'll explain). The New York Auto Show returned last week with flair and a wide range of promising reveals. Let's break down some of the big news, plus a few things you might have missed. News: Ford is fortifying Lincoln with the Aviator SUV Views: Doing a mid-size SUV is obvious. Calling it the Aviator wasn't. I like it. Using Navigator design cues, this thing looks the part and should give Lincoln some energy and sales volume. Not playing in the midsize SUV segment has been a mistake for Ford's luxury brand, and the Aviator should fill a much-needed hole. Props to Lincoln for dusting off the Aviator name, most recently used on a rebadged Ford Explorer built in 2003-2005. It sounds classy and historic, like something from 1930s, even though it only dates to the tail end of the " Friends" era. Speaking of names, when the MKC gets a new one, Lincoln should dust off Zephyr, a moniker it actually used in the '30s and then briefly in the early 2000s. Why use the Aviator name? Jim Farley, Ford's president of global markets, said it's about reminding consumers that Ford has traditionally built strong SUVs. "I think in a way the legacy is falling in love with what we do best," he said. "We wanted to go back to our roots. We know how to do this well." Farley also said the Aviator could prove to be Lincoln's bestseller. The Aviator was well-received in New York, earning our Best in Show award and garnering cautiously optimistic reactions from some analysts. "Lincoln ran this experiment once before ... differences in the market conditions, stronger differentiation and appetite for utility vehicles may prove a different story for this Aviator," IHS analyst Stephanie Brinley said. View 19 Photos News: VW surprised the car world with the Atlas Tanoak pickup concept Views: Good move. VW should build this. The concept is based on a longer version of the Atlas platform and would take aim at the midsize truck segment. VW is using this prototype to "gauge the reactions" of automotive influencers, but make no mistake, the Tanoak is totally doable. Using Atlas bones and mechanicals punched up with rugged styling and some soft-road capability, the Tanoak would grow VW's portfolio in a smart way. The Atlas Cross Sport concept, also revealed in New York, signals that Atlas expansion is already underway.

VW confirms new TDI for second half of 2014 in Golf, Jetta, Passat and Beetle

Tue, 18 Mar 2014

Diesel lovers rejoice. Volkswagen is bringing the latest iteration of its 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engine - dubbed the EA288 - to the 2015 model year Golf, Jetta, Passat, Beetle (2013 model pictured above) and Beetle Convertible, and the cars will be on sale in the second half of 2014.
While it shares its moniker with the old diesel, the new engine produces 150 horsepower, a 10-hp boost, and 236 pound-feet of torque. VW promises improved fuel economy as well, but it hasn't announced specifically what amount yet. The company claims that despite the same displacement, only the bore spacing is shared with the previous version. The mill includes new features like exhaust gas recirculation, an intercooler integrated into the intake manifold and low-friction camshaft bearings.
VW Group of America has had great success with diesels in the US recently. Vee-Dub and Audi sold 105,899 diesel-equipped models in 2013. It was the first time the group ever sold over 100,000 diesels in a year, and they accounted for 24 percent of sales. Scroll down to read the full press release about the announcement.
