1972 Volkswagen Kombi Camper Van on 2040-cars
Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States

You are
bidding on a 1972 Volkswagen Type 23 Kombi camper van, with 64k miles. This van
is outfitted with a custom interior, designed around the Westfalia style camper
set up, along with many other upgrades. The headliner, front seat upholstery,
and interior panels are TMI brand, VW reproduction in gray. The rear seat and
bed cushions are custom made with a very good color match. The cabinets are
made from high end marine grade plywood, finished in its natural color. The
double burner propane stove is mounted above the ice chest. To gain access to
the ice chest you step on the foot peddle and a hydraulic system raises the
stove. (See photos) To lower the stove you press the foot peddle and push the
stove down. The stove can also be removed and placed on a folding stand
(included) to cook outside (see photos). Heat is provided by a Mr. Heater
portable radiant heater witch can also be removed to be used outside. The small
portable toilet located below the heater can also be removed and placed in a more
"privet" area of your campsite. The back seat and fold out bed can be
lowered into the bed configuration or locked back into a seat very easily and
only takes a few seconds. Underneath the rear seat / bed is more storage (see
photos). Alongside the bed on the
driver’s side are two more cabinets with plenty of room for storage. Above the
bed, (see photos), is a storage shelf for bedding and curtains. Two complete
set of curtains are included. The red plaid set shown in the photos, along with
a gray set. Next to the stove is a small sink with soap dispenser, and a hand
pump water faucet. Fresh water and gray water connection are located outside
just behind the driver’s side door. Fresh water is supplied by a MSR bladder
connected by a hose. I would lay the bladder underneath the bus to keep it in
the shade. Gray water is directed away from bus by a garden hose. Underneath
the sink is more storage space with the included red plates, bowls, cups, and
cookware. (See photo) A Panasonic #CQ-VAD9300U radio/TV/CD players is tucked in
the stock hole for the radio. On top of the bus is a Wingard brand retractable
antenna. I have also installed a digital to analogue converter so the TV
stations will work. The rest of the dash is all stock and in good condition.
Also mounted above the sliding door is a Shadyboy brand fold out awning (See
Photos). The engine is a 2 liter 914 with
single carb and 009 distributor. The engine was rebuilt completely less than
1000 miles ago, and runs and drives great. The transmission was rebuilt approximately
4000 miles ago. A second RV deep cycle battery with a disconnect is installed
in the engine compartment with a battery charger for long weekends. Next to the
stove is a small inverter to power small electronics and charge your phone. All
of the door and compartment seals have been replaced with new seals. The front
windshield was also replaced with a brand new unit. The body is in good
condition. Some body work was performed on the front of the bus before I
purchased it and is behind the Spare tire. The frame was under coated at one
point and has prevented any undercarriage rust. The frame and body works has
close to no rust. Some of the undercoat
has come off in the wheel wells and exposed the frame paint (see photo). The
sliding door lower slide is in great condition with no rust and the door slides
smooth. The bus was repainted at one point most likely in the 80’s. The paint
and rest of the body has some small scratches and nicks and such, but all in
all, it's in good condition. The louvered windows work but are in need of some
new seals. The lock is missing from the external handle on the passenger door,
but all the other locks work. This is a great little camper bus. It has been stored inside for last 10 years,
and has not been used it, so it’s time for it to go to a new home. The tires,
shocks, drive shafts, CV joints, brakes, tie rods, and exhaust were all
replaced with new components about 10 years ago, and only have about 4000 miles
on them. Buyer is responsible for any and all shipping costs. Payment through PayPal only. Email with any questions. (questions will be answered during Tuesday-Friday 11am-6pm, and Saturday 11am-4pm -central standard time) |

VW suspends sales in South Korea ahead of government meeting
Mon, Jul 25 2016Volkswagen and Audi have announced they will suspend sales of 79 different models in South Korea ahead of a meeting with the country's environmental ministry. VW will halt sales starting on July 25, the same day that its officials are to sit down with the South Korean environmental ministry, which will likely punish the German company. The Wall Street Journal reports that Korea's response to the situation will likely come in the form of an outright sales ban on Volkswagen products by revoking certifications on 79 different models based on 34 different vehicle types. Affected models include the VW Golf, Jetta, and Tiguan and the Audi A3 and A6, the WSJ reports. Essentially, it looks like VW is merely trying to get out ahead of the South Korean government. If the revocation goes through, it'd likely lead to fines and a relatively large recall of around 79,000 vehicles, the WSJ reports. Despite the dreary forecast, Volkswagen reaffirmed its commitment to the South Korean market. "This decision doesn't mean that Volkswagen is pulling out of Korea, which is a very important market to us," a Korean rep for the company said in a statement. "We'll reapply for certification of our cars if the government revokes it. The process may take several months." While Volkswagen's diesel emissions testing scandal is part of the problem, South Korea is taking a harder line than a lot of other countries. Authorities indicted a Volkswagen exec on charges of submitting falsified emissions documents and noise tests last week, while separately, Korea's trade watchdog is considering criminal charges against execs, according to the WSJ. Banning VW Group sales in South Korea isn't quite as dramatic as if the company stopped sales in China, the United States, or Germany, but it's still going to sting. VW Group products (including Bentley) represented around a third of European cars imported by South Korea last year. Least satisfying vehicle rankings seek to highlight the worst cars of the year
Sun, Feb 5 2023Consumer Reports polls its members on all sorts of topics related to how they buy and use products ranging from mobile phones to humidifiers for indoor plants. Cars are regularly one of CR’s most interesting topics, and its recent study on the least satisfying vehicles to own offers insights into the cars people wish they hadnÂ’t purchased. CR polled thousands of members with questions about what they liked and disliked about the vehicle theyÂ’d owned for a few years. When asked if they would definitely repurchase the same car, the following vehicles came back as the least likely to be purchased a second time: Kia Forte: 51% would buy again Nissan Altima: 51% would buy again Nissan Kicks: 49% would buy again Volkswagen Taos: 48% would buy again Kia Seltos: 48% would buy again Jeep Compass: 46% would buy again Mercedes-Benz GLA: 45% would buy again Infiniti QX50: 40% would buy again Mercedes-Benz GLB: 39% would buy again Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport: 38% would buy again When Autoblog tested the VW Atlas Cross Sport in March 2022, we liked the styling and the price was right, but it lagged rivals in driving excitement and interior quality. A number of recalls donÂ’t help the Cross SportÂ’s cause much, either, as some models have more than a dozen actions by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Even the 2023 model already has four recalls. The annoyance of recalls and the hassle of just-average reliability ratings could have played into the Cross SportÂ’s place as the least satisfying vehicle. On the other end of the spectrum, the Chevrolet Corvette earned the top spot as CR's most satisfying car. The Porsche 911, Rivian R1T, Ford Maverick Hybrid, and Hyundai Ioniq 5 round out the top-five most satisfying vehicles to own. Given the rabid following the 911 has built over the years and the insane performance Chevy derived from the latest Corvette, itÂ’s not surprising to see them in the top spots. 2015 Volkswagen Golf SportWagen First Drive [w/video]
Wed, Mar 25 2015Volkswagen currently offers five Golf models in the US, and in just a few weeks it will add the 2015 SportWagen to the lineup. The previous version sold as the Jetta SportWagen, although it was technically a Golf. For the new model, VW product planners decided to align all the hatchbacks under the same name. The SportWagen employs the same engines as the Golf, but significantly stretches its new MQB architecture. The result is greater practicality in the form of cargo room. With the seats up the SportWagen holds 30.4 cubic feet, almost 8 more than the Golf. The gap widens to nearly 14 cu ft with the seats folded; a max capacity of 66.5 cu ft puts the SportWagen into compact crossover territory. That added functionality leads VW to think it can sway buyers shopping the likes of the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4. And with the high-mpg diesel variant – 31 mpg city, up to 43 highway – VW hopes to lure those considering fuel-sipping MPVs like the Toyota Prius V and Ford C-MAX. What separates this Golf from those other two segments is the driving prowess we've come to expect from Wolfsburg's best-selling nameplate. While the silhouette is similar to the outgoing Jetta wagon, designers honed the character lines to give the Golf SportWagen a more modern, angular aesthetic. The LED headlights look sharp, the hood now scoops down at a steeper angle into the front fenders, and the general proportions – in line with other Golf models – have changed. The new SportWagen is lower, longer, and wider and than the Jetta SportWagen it replaces. Specifically, it is 1.1 inches longer, 0.7 inches wider, and despite being about an inch lower, actually boasts more headroom. Inside, things look pretty familiar to the current Golf family. There are small, premium touches such as a sporty, flat-ish-bottom wheel, piano-black trim, and an optional one-touch panoramic sunroof that makes the cabin a bright, airy, and pleasant place to be. Otherwise, it's your standard Golf fare, but with a whole lot more room out back. The same two engines that power the standard Golf – the 1.8-liter turbocharged inline-four TSI, and 2.0-liter turbocharged TDI diesel – are also found under the hood of the SportWagen. Gasoline-powered models come with a five-speed manual or a traditional six-speed auto, while the TDI gets six-speed transmissions across the board – either as a row-your-own manual, or a dual-clutch DSG auto with steering wheel-mounted paddles.
