1971 VW Westfalia Campmobile for sale. Very solid bus underneath, no rust in the engine bay, battery compartment, footwells, or any other of the usual places. I'd say it's a very strong #3 or a #2.5 according to the Samba condition chart. I've tried to keep it as original as possible since it is only original once, but it would make a great full on restoration candidate or use it as a daily driver as is like I have been.

The interior sports the original burnt orange cushions. The bench cushions are in great shape and the rear cushion is about average with some marks on the underside from sitting in a barn for years, but still in very usable condition. The original picnic stool is also included. All the curtain rods are there, and I have the front curtain and the back right curtain, but the others are missing. The wood ceiling is in great shape.

The original cot is clean and installed, and I have the pop top canvas in yellow/orange but it is not installed at this time, just in case somebody would rather have a gray pop top, you can exchange this one. If you want the yellow top I'd be happy to install it for you. All the pop top seals are new.

The white paint is sort of two shades of off-white and is satisfactory for a daily driver, but you will want to respray her and replace all the seals while you are doing it if you want to do a full on restoration.

The engine and clutch are recently rebuilt. New parts also include rear half shafts (axles), new disc brake rotors, pads and calipers up front, new brake drums and pads in back. Also new KYB gas shocks all around, new Hankook tires (the best for buses), steering damper, tie rods, and lots of little plastic parts. The original Sapphire AM/FM radio plays through a singe dash speaker just like the old days. It actually sounds really good, believe it or not.

I've put what I think are cool Hawaiian seatcovers on the front seats for now. These actually did come from Hawaii, not China and are very comfortable.

It runs great with the new engine and brand new Pertronix Flamethrower electronic ignition/distributor, and I will include the old (still quite new) 009 distributor setup as well if you want to go back to points.

There is a little crunch in the body behind the right rear wheel from when a tire blew out, I will get a picture of it up.

Please email any questions. Thanks for looking and have a great day.

2013 Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid

Tue, 12 Feb 2013

More Fun Than A Prius, Less Sensible Than A TDI
Let's have some fun, and do some math. We're talking pretty rudimentary stuff, multiplication and division, to figure out if the upcoming Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid can make a baseline case for itself against two very strong competitors in this segment. The competitors in question, at least for now, are two more Jettas: the diesel-drinking TDI and the fit-for-the-masses SE with VW's long-serving 2.5-liter engine.
To keep the equations clean and simple (hey, we're writers), we'll calculate based on the most flattering EPA miles per gallon stat from highway driving for all cars, assume a healthy 20,000 miles driven per year, and factor in today's average cost for the respective fuels these three require: diesel (TDI), regular (SE) and premium (Hybrid). We'll also start with the base prices for all models.

VW Golf R 400 reportedly green-lit (again)

Sun, Apr 26 2015

After speaking to Volkswagen powertrain boss Dr. Heinz-Jakob Neusser at the 2015 New York International Auto Show, we uncovered that the Volkswagen Golf R 400 would be sold in the United States... if it ever made it to production at all, that is. That prerequisite looks like it's about to be fulfilled, as the same good doctor that said the super-powered GTI would come to the US has confirmed to Car that development is currently underway. This follows up on reports from late 2014 that the 400-horsepower car would make production. "We have the Golf more sporty than ever before, since we soon will have the Golf R 400 – we will do this car," Neusser told Car. "We are in fact in development of it right now." That is, we think you'll agree, splendid news. Of course, it also begs the question of when the new car will arrive. According to Car, it'll be just "a few short months," indicating that the Frankfurt Motor Show will likely host the Golf R 400's debut later this year. Whether that proves correct, though, likely won't be clear until later this summer.
