Hi, I am offering our '71 camper for sale. Due to an upcoming relocation we can no longer keep "Hannah" and she needs a new caretaker. She's been good and treated us well, she's not perfect but I think a fine, solid good running bus. I'll start w/ mechanicals, tires have plenty of tread left, they're quiet, smooth and have good grip. Up front the calipers, pads and brake lines are about a yr old, at the rear, drums shoes, hoses, hardware and just recently new wheel cylinders. KYB shocks about 2yrs old fr &rear. The front suspension is solid, steers smoothly and tracks straight. The clutch is strong and the trans shifts perfectly. The motor is the famous dual port 1600. I just had the valves adjusted and compression tested a hair under 140lb equally on all 4 cylinders. The motor is strong and sports a brand new weber IDF 40mm carb and a complete tuneup. Currently there is a header w/ a Kadron pipe on it which sounds nice (to me). For others I am including the original bus exhaust which is like new that I can install for you along w/ the original bumper. I also have the original air filter ass'y and vacuum regulator for the dual port distributor which I am currently using as a single. I also have a nos 009 distributor and a few jet selections for the carb depending on your altitude and driving requirements. This motor is solid and runs well, starts well even at 25deg this past winter, and drove thru fairly deep snow no problems, w/ excellant heat! Truly! after 15min @ highway speed the cabin was comfy and windshield clear!......On to the rest, the body is solid, it's not perfect, but the photos show the picture, there is a slight dent in the rear hatch that could prolly be popped out, there is very very slight beginnings of surface rust at various points, the most obvious on the sliding door. But guess what? I'm including a replacement sliding door in the same color! I just never got to swap it out. There is no stove, sink or ice box. They we're removed a long time ago, I think to make room and open up the cabin a bit. The top goes up and down smoothly, the flap zippers operate smoothly, there is a minor tear in the left side tent screen but a little patching should work there. The mattress cushions for up top sleeping are real nice as well as the pull out bench down below. The rear most cushion is gone as that was always the spot for the "stuff". The milk crate behind the drivers seat was for our dog. All in I like how it drives, it's great at the beach and in the hills, it hauls everything. All the locks work, all the lights work, the heat works, the tent is good, the engine is strong, the wipers work, everything. It needs a little cosmetic attention and a radio. I think there's a 1/2 tank of gas, throw your stuff in, turn the key and go. Any questions? feel free any time before 10pm est @ 516-978-5634. My name is Joe and I'll help any way I can, Thanks! I think the starting price to be fair w/ no reserve. A $500 deposit will secure the deal upon completion of auction

An inside look at VW's new California R&D center
Thu, 18 Oct 2012Less than two months ago, the Volkswagen Group opened a new facility in Oxnard, California (about an hour's drive west of Los Angeles). The $27 million investment, touted as Test Center California (TCC), serves as a research and development lab testing emissions for all brands under Volkswagen's umbrella, including its newest member, Porsche. While still not fully operational, we toured the new 64,000-square-foot building last week and had a first-hand opportunity to see just how much work is involved testing engines and meeting increasingly stringent government emissions standards.
Replacing a similar facility established in 1990 in Westlake Village (about 20-minutes east of the new location), our guide explained how Oxnard was chosen for its temperate climate, varied regional terrain for test drives and low altitude. (The area is only a few feet above sea level - a critical parameter when instrument testing emissions.) The new facility is capable of analyzing hundreds of vehicles, prototypes and customer-owned vehicles, annually.
Most interesting to us was the huge stainless steel climate chamber, with a massive four-wheel dynamometer that allows VW to test running vehicles in both scorching desert and freezing climates without ever leaving the building (an Audi Q7 was running in place during our visit). We were also mesmerized by the countless storage tanks and intricate plumbing of chemicals, stored in both liquid and gas states, needed to perform the variety of tests. Lastly, we took a look at Bugatti's service center on the west coast, located completely within the new center. While there were no supercars on site, the facility is equipped with plenty of spare forged wheels (mounted with expensive Michelin PAX tires) and a Veyron-specific repair jig that allows the vehicle to be completely disassembled, if needed. It is a shame that the facility, which set off all of our automotive geek alerts, is closed to the public.
VW delivers first XL1 in Germany
Mon, Jun 9 2014Volkswagen has delivered the first XL1 diesel plug-in hybrid to a customer from Berlin, Germany. Dr. Christian Malorny received his Oryx White XL1 with black and grey interior from Volkswagen Germany's director of sales and marketing for passenger cars, Thomas Zahn, at the company's Transparent Factory in Dresden. The super-efficient XL1, which first debuted at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, is powered by a 0.8-liter, two-cylinder TDI engine and electric motor, with electricity supplied by a 5.5-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Power is delivered to the rear wheels via a seven-speed DSG transmission. With a curb weight of 1,753 pounds and a drag coefficient of just 0.189, the XL1 is rated at 261 miles per gallon on the lenient European cycle. It is capable of traveling solely on electric power for up to 31 miles. "The XL1 has inspired me from the beginning and I am very pleased to now be driving my own," said Malorny, (translated). "With its visionary design and high-tech appearance, Volkswagen has dared something new and innovative." The futuristic XL1 seats two passengers, and can carry 4.2 cubic feet of cargo. It features a carbon fiber reinforced plastic body, and a low center of gravity. It is diminutive of stature, as you can see in the photo, measuring 153.1 inches long, 65.6 inches wide, and just 45.4 inches tall. It is being billed as the world's most efficient production car, but it's unlikely Dr. Malorny will be making his money back on fuel savings any time soon; despite the first sale and the vehicles appearing on the German VW site, Volkswagen has not officially announced the price tag for the XL1. In the past, we've heard it will cost approximately $145,000. Only 250 are being produced. Check out our drive review of the Volkswagen XL1 here or read on for more information in the Google-translated press release, below. Volkswagen rolls out all-new Polo R WRC
Sat, Jan 17 2015Volkswagen may have ruled out producing a road-going Polo more potent than the new GTI, but on the rally stage, the Polo R WRC has proven absolutely dominant. Introduced to the World Rally Championship in 2013, the Polo R won ten out of the baker's dozen rallies in its debut season, and all but one last year to win both titles two years running. That's quite an act to follow, and the task falls to the machine you see here. The new second-generation Polo R WRC was just revealed at Autostadt in Wolfsburg. The rally machine has been substantially reworked for 2015, with a new livery, new bodywork and new oily bits. In fact, Volkswagen says it has revised three quarters of the components, and while it has not yet detailed the "many new ideas [implemented] under the bonnet," it has identified the hydraulic gearbox as "the biggest innovation." Further details are still to come, but this is our first look at the new machine with which Sebastien Ogier, Jari-Matti Latvala and Andreas Mikkelsen – who finished last year's championship in first, second and third, respectively – will tackle this year's championship, starting with the Rally Monte Carlo on January 22-25. FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) New technology, new design: presenting the second generation Polo R WRC - World premiere of the 318-hp Polo R WRC in Wolfsburg - Member of the Board, Dr. Heinz-Jakob Neusser, launches title defence - WRC kicks off with the iconic Rally Monte Carlo from 22–25 January Wolfsburg (15 January 2015). In top form, both technically and visually: Volkswagen presented the second generation of the Polo R WRC in Autostadt, Wolfsburg. The works team from Wolfsburg has its sights set firmly on another successful defence of its titles in the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) with a new car and a new look. Volkswagen completed a clean sweep of all the World Championship titles when the Polo R WRC made its debut in 2013, before repeating this impressive feat last season. Continuity is the key to the driving line-up for 2015: double world champions Sebastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia (F/F) and team-mates Jari-Matti Latvala/Miikka Anttila (FIN/FIN) and Andreas Mikkelsen/Ola Floene (N/N) will roll down the starting ramp and head onto the first special stage of the year for Volkswagen at the legendary Rally Monte Carlo on 22 January. "The new Polo R WRC has undergone intense further development, both on the inside and the outside," said Dr.
