Up for sale at "No Reserve" except for a low starting price, is a very nice, clean, original, unmolested 1970 Camper Van. This is a California Van from the Lancaster desert area with no rust outside of light surface rust on the bumper guards, and wheels. The Van originally belonged to my parents who bought it with only a few thousand miles on it. As their daily driver it racked up quite a few miles, but was very well maintained. Because of an inaccurate speedometer I am not sure of the exact mileage on the van. At some point the engine was replaced with a German remanufactured engine. We have most of the maintenance records from the time it was new. A light restoration would bring it back up to near perfect condition, with little work, given it's age and mileage. The original owners manual is still in the glove box, and the original tool kit is still under the back seat. The van starts, runs and drives very well. We brought the car back to Kansas with the intention of going through it, and keeping it for ourselves. With all of our other car projects the van went to the "back burner" and has just been setting. It is time to let someone else give it the attention it deserves. You would be hard pressed to find another VW this nice, and original. Smoke-free environment. This will make someone a really nice camper. We have tried to include enough photos to show the overall condition with the areas that need attention. Although I feel this vehicle is very reliable, and would drive it anywhere, it is a 44 year old collector vehicle and should be viewed as such. If you are not familiar with the care and maintenance that these older VW's require, this may not be the car for you. PROS: The rear seat folds down and makes into a nice bed There is a sink with an air pressure water tank Folding table and trays Ice box Original front privacy curtains Original awning for pattern, also needs poles We have patterns for all the window curtains Small clothes closet Small closet and mirrored cupboard above sink Original tool kit and jack under backseat storage compartment Original owners manual in glove box Has one, 120 volt outlet Radio and cigarette lighter both work Small camp stool/storage container with camp utensils, can be seen in photo Has clear Kansas title Has 4 new tires Has new battery Fresh tune-up CONS: Brakes should be checked (due to age) Engine runs fine, but a little on the rich side Small stone chip left hand side of windshield which can be seen in the photo with front curtain installed Small dent above left rear wheel Steering sector adjustment Plastic cabinet knobs, and sun visor stays need to be replaced due to age Drivers seat worn, can be seen in photo Floor mat worn, can be seen in photo Cover on bed needs new upholstery, can be seen photo Needs waxing and buffing Outside mirrors and vanity mirror have crazing Speedometer reads fast Adjustment of doors and locks We have tried to describe the vehicle as accurately as possible, and have included enough photos. Any questions, please contact us, and we will get back to you as soon as possible. More photos available if needed. |

Touring the Volkswagen Museum in Wolfsburg
Mon, 23 Sep 2013Forgive the ribbon up top - this isn't so much of a Read This as a Look At This. Ran When Parked took a tour of the sprawling Volkswagen Museum in Wolfsburg, and while there's a spot of text about the different and unique vehicles on display in the rotating exhibits, it's largely the collection of pictures of odd, one-off VW-badged cars and vans that excites. If you're a fan of the weird and wild, this is a post you'll want to look at.
As RWP points out, this is the larger, but less busy, museum targeted purely at Volkswagen products. The smaller AutoStadt museum, meanwhile, covers a much broader swath, with products from other Volkswagen Group members. Click on over to view the extensive gallery of high-quality images from Ran When Parked.
Russian auto boomtown grinds to halt over Ukraine sanctions
Tue, Apr 5 2022Thousands of auto workers have been furloughed and food prices are soaring as Western sanctions pummel the small Russian city of Kaluga and its flagship foreign carmakers, with more sanctions likely to come. The Kaluga region, 190 kilometers (120 miles) southwest of Moscow, says it has attracted more than 1.3 trillion roubles ($15 billion) in investment, mostly foreign, since 2006. But Western sanctions imposed in recent weeks after Russia sent tens of thousands of troops into Ukraine have exacerbated lingering component shortages and halted production at two flagship car plants, Germany's Volkswagen and Sweden's Volvo. A third, the PSMA Rus plant that is a joint venture between Stellantis and Mitsubishi and employs 2,000, may halt production soon due to a lack of parts, Stellantis' chief executive said last Thursday. "It is not clear what will happen. They don't give us any concrete information," said Pavel Terpugov, a welder at the PSMA Rus plant. Terpugov said he needs twice as much money to buy groceries than before the sanctions. Analysts have forecast Russian inflation could soar to 24% this year, while the economy may shrink to 2009 levels. The United States and Europe are weighing more sanctions against Russia after Ukraine accused Russian forces of civilian killings in northern Ukraine, where a mass grave was found in Bucha, outside Kyiv. Russia calls its actions in Ukraine a "special operation" and the Kremlin categorically denied any accusations related to the murder of civilians, including in Bucha. One source of hope for some in Kaluga, with its 325,000 residents, is the West may be reluctant to hurt its own companies. "Does it make sense to impose sanctions on its own plant and lose money?" said Valery Uglov, an auto mechanic at the Volkswagen plant. "Does it make sense to lose the Russian market?" "We hope to return to work as soon as possible and everyone will have confidence in the future again," Uglov said. Volkswagen, whose factory employs 4,200 people, in early March suspended operations. A spokeswoman said production remained frozen. Volvo Group, which employs over 600 people to build trucks, also suspended production. Even before the sanctions, Russian car sales had contracted from 2.8 million units from when the Volkswagen factory opened in 2007 to 1.67 million units last year, damaged by both sanctions after the 2014 annexation of Crimea and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Volkswagen Golf R Evo may debut at Beijing Motor Show
Thu, 23 Jan 2014If a report in Auto Express is correct, a lighter, faster brother to the Volkswagen Golf R will be shown to the world at the Beijing Motor Show in April. Said to be called the Golf R Evo, the even harder hot hatch would be unveiled as one of those concepts that's practically a de facto presentation of the genuine thing. The Evo in its name will come from having a carbon fiber roof and CF in the bodywork, lighter wheels, thinner bucket seats up front and a roll cage instead of rear seats.
If there's a power increase, it's been described as "a small bump." However, as the report mentions, if the Jenny Craig regimen can drop 100 kilograms (220 pounds) from the the 3,247-pound weight of the European Golf R, then the Golf R Evo will do about the same damage on the scales as the Golf but have at least 50 more horsepower and 44 more pound-feet of torque.
Since we still don't have the current Golf, this isn't something that should keep you awake even if the 'concept' does become a production model. But it is good to know that the Golf R is really going to start pushing its boundaries.
