***NO PAINT WORK EVER! NO BONDO! NO WRECKS! 99% RUST FREE, 100% ORIGINAL PAINT! GARAGED SURVIVOR....

RARE- 1964 Mouse Grey, Standard Micro Bus Walk Through w/ 100% OG Paint.... No Really this Bus has 100% OG paint.... Never restored, resprayed or touched up in any way. Professionally installed IRS, (no reduction boxes), narrowed front beam by Wagens West. The interior is OG including headliner, all interior panels and Saphire 1 radio. The headliner is almost perfect. The seats upholstery is the only thing that has been redone recently. Rebuilt 1600cc dual port, freeway flyer transmission. Safari windows, factory 6 pop out windows. The narrowed front beam was built by a well known local VW shop (Wagens West). The bus rides and handles awesome with the narrowed front beam and is a HUGE improvement over the stock suspension. I have never seen a split window van that has 100% og paint in this kind of original condition. Thousands of dollars and hundreds of man hours went into the preservation of this bus....

Engine/Transmission- Rebuilt 1600cc dual port. Rebuilt carb, new alternator, fuel and vac lines. Empi header style exhaust. New Optima battery. IRS (no reduction boxes.) Rebuilt freeway flyer transmission, new rear axles. The motor is finely tuned and runs perfect.

Paint/Body- This bus was garaged for a majority of its life. 100% original paint, NO REALLY 100% ORIGINAL PAINT......Very rare and desirable Mouse Grey and Pearl White. NO PAINT WORK EVER.. I had the original paint professionally polished. I took the van to a professional detail shop. They spent over 8 hours polishing the paint to a beautiful finish. I have never seen another split window bus with original paint in this kind of condition ever...The body is super strait with only a few small dents. The nose is absolutely perfect with not even a ding. Under carriage, frame, jack points, nose, floors, dog legs, inner rockers, all doors, and gutters are completely rust free, (the bus is 99% rust free). During the preservation of this bus I decided to replace the outer 14 inch section of the cargo floor, both inner lower cargo door sections were replaced with out disturbing any of the og paint. Both front floor corners were replaced. None of the og paint was damaged during the metal work. Only Funky Green (Gerson) replacement panels were used. I have documented all the metal work with several pictures on the photo bucket link above. Both front and rear bumpers were completely disassembled, sand blasted and repainted. The entire interior was removed and 3 coats of POR were put any were there was surface rust including inside of the front doors and areas behind were the interior panels go (see pictures). What sets this bus apart from other buses is all the amount of work, detail, and labor that went into areas of the bus you will never see, (No corners were cut). Hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars have been invested in the preservation of this bus.

Interior- The interior is in excellent original condition. All interior door and kick panels were removed, cleaned and are 100% original to the bus. All door panels were re glued where needed. I pressed all interior panels for a week to remove warping. I did this buy sandwiching the interior panels in between two pieces of plywood and placing several hundred pounds of weight on them. The back sides of the panels were slightly sponged with water to help flatten them out. All the original interior panels are in excellent condition. Original front kick panels. Original and hard to find rear seat kick panel. The dash is perfect and uncut. Original Saphire 1 radio by Bendix. I installed new wheel well mats as the old ones were to far gone to save. All interior dome, dash lights, electrical work as they should. The original head liner is almost perfect.

Suspension/Brakes- New narrowed Wagens West front beam (all new ball joints, tie rod ends ect). professionally installed IRS. Nothing was cut, every thing is bolt on. New brakes soft and hard lines. Repacked wheel bearings. (The bus handles and drives like a car)

Other- New hub caps with white VW centers, hard to find deluxe style beauty rings. The rims were sand blasted and painted. New Pirelli p-400 tires front and rear, reproduction luggage rack, matching size spare tire. Brand new front shocks, fresh tune up.

100% original paint survivor Mouse Grey walk through standard. This is a rare bus to begin with. Super rare to find one in this kind of original condition. I spent countless hours preserving this rare bus. I have regretfully decided to sell this bus out of my personal collection. There are many things I have done to this bus I have not listed as there is to much to list. With the updated 1600 dual port motor, freeway flyer transmission, IRS, suspension and brake work this bus runs and drives more like a car than a bus. The additional power from the upgraded motor and higher geared transmission make this bus perfect for highway and long distance driving. No expense or man hours were spared on this preservation. This is a no story's bus with no hidden problems like so many other "restored buses" on the market today. This would be the perfect center piece in any VW collection. Although I tried to be thorough in the description, I know there is much I left out. This is one of the finest unrestored split window buses in the country.... Call or email with additional questions.
I can have this bus shipped to your front door at whole sale cost

Russian auto boomtown grinds to halt over Ukraine sanctions

Tue, Apr 5 2022

Thousands of auto workers have been furloughed and food prices are soaring as Western sanctions pummel the small Russian city of Kaluga and its flagship foreign carmakers, with more sanctions likely to come. The Kaluga region, 190 kilometers (120 miles) southwest of Moscow, says it has attracted more than 1.3 trillion roubles ($15 billion) in investment, mostly foreign, since 2006. But Western sanctions imposed in recent weeks after Russia sent tens of thousands of troops into Ukraine have exacerbated lingering component shortages and halted production at two flagship car plants, Germany's Volkswagen and Sweden's Volvo. A third, the PSMA Rus plant that is a joint venture between Stellantis and Mitsubishi and employs 2,000, may halt production soon due to a lack of parts, Stellantis' chief executive said last Thursday. "It is not clear what will happen. They don't give us any concrete information," said Pavel Terpugov, a welder at the PSMA Rus plant. Terpugov said he needs twice as much money to buy groceries than before the sanctions. Analysts have forecast Russian inflation could soar to 24% this year, while the economy may shrink to 2009 levels. The United States and Europe are weighing more sanctions against Russia after Ukraine accused Russian forces of civilian killings in northern Ukraine, where a mass grave was found in Bucha, outside Kyiv. Russia calls its actions in Ukraine a "special operation" and the Kremlin categorically denied any accusations related to the murder of civilians, including in Bucha. One source of hope for some in Kaluga, with its 325,000 residents, is the West may be reluctant to hurt its own companies. "Does it make sense to impose sanctions on its own plant and lose money?" said Valery Uglov, an auto mechanic at the Volkswagen plant. "Does it make sense to lose the Russian market?" "We hope to return to work as soon as possible and everyone will have confidence in the future again," Uglov said. Volkswagen, whose factory employs 4,200 people, in early March suspended operations. A spokeswoman said production remained frozen. Volvo Group, which employs over 600 people to build trucks, also suspended production. Even before the sanctions, Russian car sales had contracted from 2.8 million units from when the Volkswagen factory opened in 2007 to 1.67 million units last year, damaged by both sanctions after the 2014 annexation of Crimea and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fully Charged rolls into season 3 with VW XL1 and electric Land Rover

Sat, Jan 18 2014

It's been some time since last we visited with British actor and electric car proponent Robert Llewellyn and his web-based video series, Fully Charged. The show, now sponsored by Ecotricity, has started rolling out its third season and now has available two episodes featuring a pair of truly unique – and diametrically opposed – vehicles. The first installment starts with some interesting numbers involving the host's Nissan Leaf and its energy consumption over the past 36,000 miles, but soon moves on to the ultra-aero, ultra-expensive Volkswagen XL1. Now, if you've already seen the footage from our own XL1 first drive review, there's not a lot new here except, perhaps, more enthusiasm and a better listen of the two-cylinder diesel kicking in. Still, it's a great reminder of a truly unique vehicle and we enjoyed the segment. The second episode features an electrified Land Rover Defender 110. This is a vehicle you'd more likely see on an African safari than at the local mall. It's not a home-built conversion either, but rather, something the company has put together "for the boffins to create the ideas and see if they work." Boasting a 50-mile range, it's certainly something we like to take on an off-road adventure. Llewellyn is given the chance to do just that, and though the course is somewhat milder than what we might attempt, it does feature a stretch of river and some rough, rutted tracks. You can watch both episodes by scrolling below let us know which vehicle you'd prefer in the comments. This writer is going with the four-wheel-drive. This content is hosted by a third party. Honda wins Commercial of the Decade, but not for the ad you think [w/VIDEO]

Honda's Commercial of the Decade: "Grrr" - Click above to watch video
The mad men at Adweek recently voted for the Commercial of the Decade (Super Bowl commercials not included) and Honda took top honors over memorable ads from the last ten years by companies like Nike, Budweiser and Sony. That's not a big surprise considering Honda often puts a huge amount of effort into its on-air spots. However, the Japanese automaker didn't win for the commercial you might have expected: "Cog." Though Honda's famous commercial that breaks down a European Accord Tourer into a Rube Goldberg-esque machine was also a finalist, it was beaten by another Honda commercial called "Grrr" that's narrated by Garrison Keillor of all people. You've probably never seen it, but you can after the jump.
Volkswagen also made the list of finalists, but the particular ad chosen out of all the comical VW ads we've seen was unexpected as well. Most surprising carmaker with a commercial in the finals: Saturn. Who knew...
