Up for consideration is an Exceptional example of the classic icon the 63 VW Beetle Ragtop. This VW has been cared for by 3 adult VW enthusiasts over the last 51 years. What makes this VW Exceptional is the quality of the restoration undertaken over a 3 year period. The car was completed in 2009 by long time VW lovers & builders prior to my ownership. What these restorers accomplished was next to short of building an assembly line vehicle like that of the Wolfsburg Factory. Many make the claim" Rust Free" but if you know German cars of the 50's- 60's rust may not be evident until you see outward signs. This VW has had almost all it's structural sheet metal replaced with factory spares and spot welded professionally in place to look like the original. Zinc treated, epoxy primed and finish coated with Rhino truck bed liner ( tuff stuff) so won't Rust Ever Pan Off Restoration - Have Restoration Receipts for over 22k. Every Part on Vehicle Newer or rebuilt using mostly VW parts where available Complete mechanical & cosmetic refresh in 2013 by Exotic Car Shop Engine: Total rebuild to 1385 cc 52 hp Transaxle: rebuilt all with around 900mi. Safety: 3 point Seat Belts mounted in orig. factory anchors. Front disc brakes, New Firestone F560 Radial tires and New Vintage rims, Dual factory side mirrors I encourage and welcome all questions prior to auctions end. I reserve the right to end auction any time prior to reserve being met as car is advertised for sale else where. Vehicle is sold " As Is" condition with no warranty. Bid with confidence no disappointments, car looks better in person than the pictures. Seller 100% on e Bay since 2003 Shipping Costs are the responsibility of winning bidder. I can assist truck driver to load/keep garaged till pick up in a timely manor. Please bid to win- I've set a very fair reserve price. Would be a great addition to any collection. This car is built to drive, rally or show. Easily keeps up with modern traffic cruises quietly/ effortless at 65mph Easy to shift, stops on a dime. VW has been safety checked, all maintenance up to date Needs Nothing!!

Please note: Rubber fender welting as viewed in the pictures is actually factory NOS sourced from Germany to match car. The color has not been painted over a black welting. The color is manufactured in the rubber. Running board material also color coordinated as well and color manufactured in the rubber. The color is imbedded in the rubber.

Professionally installed system recommended by Exotic car shop as best electronic system for the VW Beetle type 1 engine- improves gas miles/gal., extends bearing life- less gas/oil dilution almost all gas is burned during combustion cycle, increased power& dependability NASCAR racing/ sports car club racing tried and true. On Aug-23-14 at 14:59:05 PDT, seller added the following information: ATTENTION: This car is being sold for far less than the cost of the Restoration. My loss your gain. Why settle for average when you can own a show stopper.. You can't lose your investment by purchasing this Beetle. That's because my Reserve is set low and you couldn't build for my low reserve price. It's like buying a classic car at wholesale pricing. My reserve is far less than the KBB value guide suggests for a car in this condition. I encourage you to please bid to own, you might just do!! so! On Aug-24-14 at 09:47:32 PDT, seller added the following information: VW IS RESTORED TO BETTER THAN ORIGINAL CONDITION ! COLLECTING CLASSICS I'VE LEARNED THAT IT IS ALWAYS LESS EXPENSIVE TO BY A TOTALLY RESTORED CAR AT A REASONABLE OR BARGAIN PRICE THAN TO PAY LESS FOR A LESSER CAR AND SPEND MORE TRYING TO DO IT YOURSELF. RESTORATION PROJECTS TAKE LOT'S OF TIME/MONEY- THIS VW TOOK OVER 2YRS AND THEN A YEAR TO SORT OUT THE MECHANICALS.

VW recalling 38k Jettas, Passats, Golfs and Beetles for fuel leak
Wed, Dec 31 2014Earlier we reported on a recall issued for the 2015 VW Jetta regarding a problem with the headlights, and now Volkswagen and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have issued another recall for a separate issue affecting not only the Jetta, but several other models as well. The issue revolves around a sealing cap in the fuel rail, which could leak fuel into the engine compartment and potentially cause a fire. The problem affects an estimated 37,979 vehicles in the United States, including the 2014-15 Jetta (manufactured between March 28 and November 24, 2014), the 2014-15 Passat (April 7 to November 18), the 2015 Golf and GTI (July 1 to November 20) and the 2014-15 Beetle and Beetle Convertible (March 31 to November 27). That covers pretty much the entire range offered by Volkswagen of America, short of the Tiguan and Touareg crossovers (and the discontinued Eos convertible). Considering, though, that VW routinely sells around 30,000 vehicles in the US each month, the small number of vehicles being recalled (relative to the quantity out there) tells you this recall really only affects a specific cross-section of models. Owners of the affected vehicles can expect to be contacted by their dealers to have the fuel rails replaced. RECALL Subject : Fuel Leaking Into Engine Compartment Report Receipt Date: DEC 22, 2014 NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V809000 Component(s): FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE Potential Number of Units Affected: 37,979 Manufacturer: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. SUMMARY: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Jetta vehicles manufactured March 28, 2014, to November 24, 2014, certain 2014-2015 Passat vehicles manufactured April 7, 2014, to November 18, 2014, certain 2015 Golf and GTI vehicles manufactured July 1, 2014, to November 20, 2014, and certain 2014-2015 Beetle and Beetle Convertible vehicles manufactured March 31, 2014, to November 27, 2014. A sealing cap at the fuel rail may fail, allowing fuel to leak into the engine compartment. CONSEQUENCE: A fuel leak, in the presence of an ignition source, can result in a vehicle fire. REMEDY: Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel rails with new parts, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-822-8987. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 24Bi.
Volkswagen bringing production GTI Clubsport to Frankfurt
Wed, Sep 9 2015"No plans for the car to be sold here." It's probably good I read that part of the email from Volkswagen before I looked at the photos and read the release for the car you see above. It's the production-spec GTI Clubsport. It's coming to the Frankfurt Motor Show. It's awesome. And I want one. I know, I'm kind of a GTI fanboy, but really, there's a lot to like here. The special-edition hot hatch is essentially a road-going version of the concept Volkswagen brought to Worthersee this year, complete with a more powerful engine. It produces 261 horsepower – a healthy increase over the 210 hp of the base GTI (or 220 if the car is fitted with the performance pack) – and can even crank out 286 hp for short bursts, thanks to an overboost function. Hitting 62 miles per hour takes six seconds flat with the six-speed manual gearbox, and that time is reduced to 5.9 seconds should you opt for the six-speed dual-clutch automatic. Even with these upgrades, VW says the GTI Clubsport will still return nearly 34 miles per gallon with the manual transmission. Volkswagen doesn't specifically mention any chassis upgrades, however. In its press release, VW simply says that the GTI Clubsport "has groundbreaking handling properties at high speeds and breathtaking cornering speeds." Cool. I'm sure it'll be a riot. A lot of the exterior is new: the front bumper, side sills, rear diffuser, roof spoiler, and aluminum wheels are all unique to the Clubsport. Buyers can choose between 18- or 19-inch rollers, the tailpipes are larger than those on a standard GTI, and the LED lights out back have a black/red, dark finish. Inside, the Clubsport comes with racing buckets covered in tartan fabric (of course) and there's Alcantara everywhere. Fellow GTI fans, get excited about this one – even if it's just another delicious piece of forbidden fruit. Still, I can't wait to see it live in Frankfurt next week. Giorgetto Giugiaro sells shares in legendary styling house to Audi
Sat, Jul 4 2015Giorgetto Giugiaro undoubtedly stands among the great automotive designers of the 20th century, having penned the original Volkswagen Golf and Delorean DMC-12, among countless others. However, the great stylist is now longer an employee or even an owner of the company that bears his name. According to Automotive News, Giugiaro and his son, Fabrizio, sold their remaining 9.9 percent of Italdesign Giugiaro to Audi on Sunday, June 28, and the two resigned from the business the following day. The news about this just came out, though. The exact reason that the two men left the company hasn't been made entirely clear. According to Automotive News, a statement said that Giorgetto Giugiaro went "to dedicate more time to his personal interests." Italdesign Giugiaro remains open and intends to keep growing, though, the same announcement asserts. After stints at Bertone and Ghia, Giugiaro founded Italdesign in 1968. He created some masterpieces there, including '70s wedges like Maserati Merak, Lotus Esprit, and much more. The 2000s weren't so kind and 90.1 percent of the company was sold to Volkswagen Group in 2010. Former Audi design boss Wolfgang Egger took over styling duties there in late 2013, but he only lasted for about a year, leaving in late 2014. Since the sale, Italdesign has continued to work, including with the Gea concept at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show and the very mean-looking Parcour in 2013. Giugiaro's designs are still highly prized, as well. On September 5, Bonhams is auctioning the Maserati Boomerang concept by him and expects to get around $4 million for it. The gallery above offers a few more examples of his and Italdesign's concepts for VW Group over the years.
