Time Capsule Manx Style Dune Buggy No Reserve on 2040-cars
Merced, California, United States
Just out of the estate of the original owner, a very wealthy car collector, is this beautiful Volkswagen-powered Dune Buggy. After extensive research, it appears to be a Fiber-Tech body but since there are no markings, I can't be sure. It IS a true time capsule, untouched and in climate-controlled storage since 1980. Built in 1972, then used sparingly until 1980 when it was put into storage. Everything on it except for the battery (new) is all original. The Gel Coat has been polished up and is slick as glass in most places. One small spot of discoloration on the front. The factory Gel Coat is in Light Blue with a very light Pink splatter design; I have never seen another one like this, it's very unique. Built from a early swing axle VW Beetle pan, it has a 1600cc Dual Port motor that after a good servicing runs like new, and it's very powerful! The gas tank has been cleaned out, brakes bled. The tires are the original Dune Buggy tires on 10 inch wide chrome wheels with stock hubcaps; they have lots of tread, but as they are over 40 years old, the rear ones have a lot of cracking on the sidewall and should be replaced. If you have ever owned or driven one of these neat little cars you know what fun they are to drive. These little Buggies have been in demand ever since Bruce Meyers built the first one in his garage, beginning the most popular "Kit Car" that there has ever been. Many people including myself would buy an old Bug and make a Dune Buggy out of it. And if you have ever built one you also know that it's a lot of work. This little jewel is a true survivor, having never been altered since new. The original Diamond Tuck upholstery is very beautiful, and is like new with no signs of wear and no rips or tears. A true 70's classic, Diamond Tuck never goes out of style. The interior also has a very nice custom-made carpet kit. Always been taken very good care of, stored in climate-controlled storage, owned by one older adult since it was new. As you can see by the pictures this is a car that you will be very proud to own. Take it to your local "Bug In" and watch people admire it. Perfect for Pismo Beach, or a weekend car. It is getting harder and harder to find nice "original" Dune Buggies. NO RESERVE AUCTION!!!! This means that someone will get this great little car. Clear California title, registered correctly in California as a "Special Construction Vehicle", so no smog required in California. Not registered since 1980, completely out of the California DMV system so no back fees. Since it has not been registered since 1980 please don't ask me if you can drive it home. I have the original title issued in 1972, it has never been sold or offered for sale until now. I feel this car is a very safe (and fun!) investment. The only problem you'll have with this buggy is that your face will hurt from smiling all the time when you're driving it! Will ship anywhere in the world at buyer's expense. I can help with shipping, I work with a very good auto transport company that will deliver it to your door. Available for inspection anytime during the auction by appointment. Please remember you are bidding to buy, not just to come take a look at it. All inspections must be completed before the end of the auction. Full payment is due within three days after the end of auction, and I don't take PayPal for payment on cars. E-Mail, or call or text me at 831-383-2499 with questions. If you have ever wanted a classic Dune Buggy, but don't want to build one then "This Buggy's For You!" Good Luck and HAPPY BIDDING!!!

Porsche CEO Matthias Mueller throws hat back in ring for VW CEO job
Tue, Mar 24 2015Toward the end of February it got leaked that Porsche CEO Matthias Muller was being promoted to Volkswagen's supervisory board. Muller's credentials and his success over 36 years at the VW Group have, for observers, put his name in the pool of potential candidates to succeed current group CEO Martin Winterkorn when Winterkorn retires in two years. But the 61-year-old Muller told German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung earlier in February, "It's no solution to put a 63-year-old at the head of Volkswagen," and the statement was taken to mean he wasn't considering the job. Muller now says the quote was misunderstood. In a report in Automotive News, the newly minted board member says he was commenting on what it would mean for the supervisory board and the Group if they nominated a 63-year-old to replace a 69-year-old - that it wouldn't result in a "generation change." However, if that's what they choose to do, Muller feels great: "I stand ready to take over any assignment," he said. Muller's name re-enters the candidacy pool, but we still have no idea who leads the running for the role and Winterkorn isn't saying a word. It could be three years before we know: Winterkorn's contract concludes at the end of next year but there is speculation he'll re-up for two years to see out the end of the Strategy 2018 initiative.
VW recognizes second union at Chattanooga plant
Wed, Feb 18 2015The ongoing story of organizing workers at Volkswagen's factory in Chattanooga, TN, continues to get more complicated. Following an independent audit, the automaker has now recognized a second union at the plant called the American Council of Employees. The group was founded there last year to offer an alternative to the United Auto Workers. "I'm not anti-union. I understand that a properly run union can benefit people. We will be that union," Sean Moss, president of the ACE, said to Reuters, according to Automotive News. The group claims to represent at least 15 percent of the workers at the plant. Acceptance of the ACE has led to an interesting situation in Chattanooga because VW also recognized the UAW at the factory in December 2014, and the group has claimed to represent at least 45 percent of workers there. According to Automotive News, each union has access to management, but the UAW has more because of its larger contingent of supporters. However, neither organization has a collective bargaining agreement with the automaker. Moss may have a rough time increasing support among employees at the factory. According to Automotive News, many anti-UAW workers there are completely against unions in general. Getting these folks to join his group isn't an easy task. The UAW has been working to fully represent the VW factory for years. However, the group lost a vote to do so in 2014. It eventually created a union local there to try to build support. All of the effort comes ahead of a $900 million plant expansion to add about 2,000 jobs and build a new crossover in Tennessee. Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Mercedes also under diesel emissions scrutiny
Sat, Oct 10 2015The controversy over Volkswagen's diesel emissions scandal isn't limited to the US. In Europe, where diesel engines are far more popular, the issue is shining a harsh light on the NEDC emissions test. As already known, the evaluation does a poor job of reflecting real-world production of NOx, and it appears a significant number of automakers are affected. The Guardian in the UK has been reporting on real-world test results from a company called Emissions Analytics. After the latest round of checks, vehicles from Mercedes-Benz, Honda, Mazda and Mitsubishi were found to generate far more NOx than they should. The newspaper also published similar results for Renault, Nissan, Hyundai, Fiat, Volvo, Jeep, Citroen, VW, and Audi. On average, the figures are about four times over the limit of producing the pollutant. Unlike VW and its defeat device, these automakers aren't actually breaking the rules. The vehicles perform up to the NEDC lab test for emissions, but those results simply aren't translated to the street. "The VW issue in the US was purely the trigger which threw light on a slightly different problem in the EU - widespread legal over-emissions," Nick Molden from Emissions Analytics said to The Guardian. A big fight to decide the future of this issue appears to be on the horizon. Automakers claim that they can't meet the next round of tightening emissions regulations and are asking for compromises. Although, spokespeople for Mercedes and Honda told The Guardian that the brands would be in favor of the stricter rules. Meanwhile, some European governments began backtracking their support of diesels well before this scandal came to light. The added scrutiny certain hasn't helped the future of the oil-burner.
