Nicely restored 1958 Sunroof Beetle. Would like to free up a little room for my next pair of projects so this is not a “forced to sell” ad. Right price takes this beautiful early Rag Beetle home otherwise I will MAKE the room to keep her in the fleet.
I purchased this car “bone stock” (other than paint) back around Oct of 2010. Other than body & paint **WHICH I DID NOT ADDRESS** because my full intent was to build this car as a driver and not a show car, it has been completely gone through within only a year and a half of time and stays garaged and mostly driven only to VW events and cruises here and there. The list of items seems endless but here are a few updates:
Chassis: Original pan in really good shape with no rust issues. Few small drill holes made by previous owner and a few little snags in pan from abnormal speed bumps or pulling out of my driveway gate. Nothing major that would prompt full section replacements. NO rust under either battery tray and interior side of pan has been coated within that entire area with preventative rust treatment before Dynamat laid down.
New AirKewld 4” Ultimate narrowed adjustable L/P beam w/KYB GR-2 shocks
New CB Performance front and rear disk brakes w/2.5” dropped spindles and stainless braided lines at each corner
New Flat 4 Fuchs- 4.5” up front with Deep 6’s in the rear
Engine: New fully powder coated and detailed GEM VW 2332cc engine w/full ceramic coated merged header and fatboy muffler with all the goodies married to a Wright Gearbox ProStreet tranny with 3.88’s & Fwy 4th. Brand new Kennedy 1700lb clutch and lightened fly you can drive this car anywhere with the 72 pass oil cooler w/fan and low 8.5:1 compression! (Full engine spec sheet upon request)
All new upholstery: Pan halves, doors/quarters, firewall and luggage compartment have all been Dynamatted prior to interior being laid. New charcoal loop carpet, vintage style seat upholstery and door panels, mohair headliner and freshly polished ragtop rails installed with OG Goldie rag handle for smooth operating action. All seat frames have been sand blasted and powder coated for that extra “touch”. New audio system utilizing Pioneer/Polk Audio/Fosgate components with glove box stereo location to preserve factory dash. Color matched radio block-off plate installed with custom VDO guage cluster mounted under ashtray.
Exterior: All new exterior rubber with stainless molding, new pop-out quarter windows w/Sekurit glass and show-chrome latches by Kotch's, new stainless body molding (WW), new triple chrome bumpers from Wolfsburg West, bumper guards by Kotch’s, all new handles, fog lights, German running boards with stainless molding, LED/snowflake tail lights conversion (super bright), fluted headlamp lenses with H4 conversion ice-blue beams.
**Paint on this car does show some minor imperfections and wear inside and out which as I previously mentioned was mostly like this when I purchased from previous owner. It still shines up well though! However, you will not even notice the few clear-coat runs or nicks/chips from regular street driving unless you are literally standing on top of the car. The original color is Ceiling Wax Red per the underside of the glove box door and other unpainted spots within trunk area that have since been completely carpeted over.**
This VW is definitely a “looker” with the bright Sea-Foam green paint, gets tons of compliments and turns heads from the young to the old wherever I take her. Drives, stops, shifts excellent! VERY meticulous with maintenance on this car so oil/filter, valves and carbs adjusted every 1,500 miles since powertrain built/installed. Car has only seen 3 service intervals since completion. All electrical works including dome light. Too many details to list here…
Thanks for looking and please feel free to email me at anytime for further details.

Chrysler slows minivan production, hasn't built VW Routan this year
Wed, 13 Mar 2013Chrysler has slowed production of its Town and Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans this week, Automotive News reports. The Windsor, Ontario plant will cut its three shifts from eight hours each to four hours each in an effort "to align production with market demand," a Chrysler spokesperson told AN. Chrysler also builds the closely related Routan minivan for Volkswagen at its Ontario facility, but has not built a single example thus far in 2013.
Sales of Chrysler's minivans fell 15 percent for the first two months of 2013, and a large part of that has to do with the 26-percent drop of the Grand Caravan alone (the T&C was only down by one percent). According to Automotive News data, as of March 1, Chrysler had an unsold inventory of 24,713 Town and Country models and 18,547 Grand Caravans - a 69- and 43-day supply, respectively.
"No sense running full speed now, then have a lot of vehicles sitting around a few months down the line," Chrysler spokeswoman Jodi Tinson told AN. Full production is expected to resume again on March 18.
Take a listen to the Volkswagen ID 3 and Koenigsegg Jesko
Sun, Dec 15 2019What could better demonstrate our diametric vehicular future than sound clips of the Volkswagen ID 3 and the Koenigsegg Jesko? Battery-electric vehicles don't make enough noise on their own, so VW partnered with composer Leslie Mandoki for the legally-mandated Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System (AVAS) that warns pedestrians and cyclists of the EV's presence. Mandoki — a German-Hungarian who once played drums in a Euro disco band called Dschinghis Khan — was asked to come up with a sound for the ID 3 that VW said "defines its identity," "radiates safety and the promise of effortless mobility," and that "must also impress with its unique character." The definition of the ID 3's single-motor, 201-horsepower character is this: Occupants and people around the hatch can hear the sound as the car accelerates to 18.6 mph, and when reversing. At higher speeds, the sound of wind resistance and tire noise takes over. As our library of AVAS tones grows, it's clear that EVs will provide a soundscape as varied as that of internal combustion engines. Here, for instance, is the industrial thrum used as the Karma Revero GT's pedestrian warning: And here is the sci-fi soaring from the BMW Vision M Next, as composed by Hans Zimmer: At the other end of the aural chamber, we have the Koenigsegg Jesko. In this case, the composer is a 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8 running on a bio-ethanol E85 blend that's almost suitable for IndyCar, powering the engine up to 1,600 horsepower. Output on pump gas will be 'only' 1,281 hp. The Swedish automaker released a clip of the exhaust note of a car in progress inside the Angelhom factory. Here's what we can look forward to: This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. All these sounds have a place at the table, even if we'd prefer Karma booked some time with a producer and an Autotune session. To paraphrase Sesame Street, though, one of these sounds is definitely not like the other.
Volkswagen Golf R Variant ready to haul ass, stuff
Thu, Nov 20 2014Volkswagen seems to be playing a cruel trick on the American automotive public at the Los Angeles Auto Show. It's displaying its sexy Golf R Variant with no clear intention of actually selling the model here. The hot wagon launches in Europe in the spring, but the automaker makes absolutely no mention of the model's prospects in the US. Hopefully, its appearance in LA at least indicates VW is considering bringing it stateside. The great thing about this wagon is that it has everything that the regular Golf R offers, but there's even more room to carry stuff. The same 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine makes 296 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque with a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox and 4Motion all-wheel drive. Performance is very close, too, with the Variant R taking 5.1 seconds to get to 62 miles per hour versus the 4.9 seconds the standard R needs to read 60 mph. The two of them also have the same tech goodies like ESC Sport stability control and multiple damping modes. The real advantage to opting for the estate is its ability to carry up to 57.2 cubic feet of cargo in the back. This hot rod wagon would seem to be perfect for the family that needs to haul some extra junk in the trunk, but doesn't want to sacrifice performance. Whether the Variant R makes it to the US remains a mystery, though. Scroll down to read the specs and feel a twinge of jealousy.
