THE OVERVIEW
Offered for an appreciating new owner AT NO RESERVE [or hit the buy it now before first bid is placed] is this rare collectible classic 1970 Volkswagen Beetle Bug!
Finished in white over black, this 44 year-old VW sports a great running rebuilt engine, nice shifting 4 speed manual transmission, original radio, really nice 15" chromed wheels with meaty Michelin tires [I am told they are Porsche 356 or 912 wheels]. The working five-digit odometer shows 100,118 miles. The actual mileage of this car is unknown. It is being sold with clean California title in hand along with current registration. It is smog-exempt here in California due to the year! This is a great find for less than the cost of the sales tax alone on a new quickly-depreciating Beetle!

PLEASE CALL 650-307-2251 FOR QUESTIONS, TEST DRIVES AND/OR MECHANICAL INSPECTIONS

THE BODY AND TRIM
The exterior of this Beetle is in decent but not great condition overall...a presentable "twenty footer".
The white paint shows MANY nicks, scrapes, scuffs and touched up areas. The trim is all intact. I have "Volkswagen" emblem for new owner to install. The 15" chromed wheels are in nice shiny condition with meaty Michelin rubber

THE INTERIOR
The interior of this classic Beetle is in fair condition overall. The odometer works as does the blinkers and lights. The radio is inop and not sure about the heater. The carpet has been removed exposing bare floor with sign of corrosion splitting on the driver side floor. The door panels are nice, the dash has some cracking on the top, the headliner is sagging and the passenger seat could use reupholstering. Both the front seats have broken recliners. The rear seat upholstery is nice as is under the front trunk.

THE DRIVING EXPERIENCE
This classic Beetle starts right up and runs VERY well with peppey acceleration from the recently rebuilt and leak-free engine. The transmission up and downshifts smoothly, the braking is straight and true with good pedal feel and the suspension is fairly solid with good tracking and good steering feel! This is actually a fun little around town car!

This semi-autonomous stroller from VW is a great idea

Thu, Aug 13 2015

We're still on the fence about the prospect of autonomous vehicles. On the one hand, they promise to make commuting a breeze and collisions a thing of the past. On the other, they stand to take us away from the steering wheel, and that's something we can't abide. But an autonomous stroller, now that's the kind of idea we can get behind. Shame such a thing doesn't exist... right? That's what we assumed until we saw this spot from Volkswagen. The German automaker's Dutch office posted on Facebook, asking the public for suggestions on how the company might improve other products, aside from automobiles. The most popular response was a baby stroller with automatic braking. So they went ahead and built one. The resulting prototype – and we're sorry to report that it's just a prototype for the time being – doesn't just have automatic braking. It can even follow the parent (or nanny or whomever) around under its own power and with its own steering. It's got the adaptive cruise control sensor from a Golf and is programmed to keep a fixed distance from the guardian in front. Or so the video suggests, at any rate. There's a good chance that there's some manner of trickery going on here, probably in the form of a hidden engineer off-screen with a remote control, and hopefully without an actual baby on board. Whether it's real or not, the invention in the commercial is sure to pique the interest of the parents among us, and maybe get those without kids thinking about taking that big step... stroller autonomously in tow.

VW redoes A-ha's 'Take On Me' music video

Wed, 18 Sep 2013

Volkswagen has been responsible for its fair share of witty, clever commercials. "Tiny Vader" might be the most popular, but somehow, we think this newest spot will find a big audience. VW delivers not so much a cover, but a reimagining, of 1980s Norwegian pop band A-ha's famous music video for "Take On Me."
The original opens with an animated motorcycle race, which is revealed to be part of a comic book. VW's version replaces the motorcycle with a Passat, which strikes us as an oddly sober choice when there are cars like the GTI and Beetle in VW's portfolio. But never mind that - take a look down below for the entire 46-second spot. For reference, we've also included the original music video. And if you aren't a fan of the musical stylings of A-ha, just think, VW's choice of 1980s music could have been much worse.

Volkswagen and Porsche recall Touareg and Cayenne

Thu, Mar 24 2016

The Basics: Volkswagen and Porsche will recall about 800,000 units worldwide of the 2011-2016 Touareg and Cayenne, according to Reuters. Of these, there are 88,300 Cayennes and 46,700 Touaregs in the US. The Problem: A securing clip on the brake pedal hinge could be missing. This can cause the pedal pivot pin to move, and "the pedal could lose guidance," according to Volkswagen's statement. Over time, the problem might cause the pedal hinge to fracture, which could make it impossible to activate the brakes. Injuries/Deaths: Porsche's statement says, "this is a purely precautionary measure, as there have been no reports of accidents or injuries as a result of this concern." Volkswagen's statement reports, "no incidents have occurred in the US to date. However, single events have been reported overseas." The Fix: Dealers will inspect the clip and reinstall it if necessary. If you own one: Porsche says it discovered the problem during internal inspections. Related Video: PORSCHE EXAMINES CAYENNE MODELS AS A PREVENTATIVE MEASURE Inspection of pedal hinge clip Atlanta, Georgia. Voluntary safety recall: Porsche is conducting an examination of 409,477 Cayenne models worldwide from model years 2011 to 2016 for a precautionary inspection, of which 88,300 are in the United States and 10,370 are in Canada. The reason for this is a clip may have become dislodged from the pedal bracket. We are implementing a voluntary recall to inspect all Cayenne vehicles built during that period to ensure the clip is present and to re-install it if necessary. The problem was identified during internal inspections and remedied in production. This is a purely precautionary measure, as there have been no reports of accidents or injuries as a result of this concern. ### Volkswagen Statement Volkswagen has notified NHTSA of an upcoming voluntary safety recall affecting approximately 46,700 Volkswagen Touareg vehicles from the 2011-2016 model years. In rare cases, a securing clip at the brake pedal hinge may be missing. If the clip is missing, the pedal pivot pin could start to move and the pedal could lose guidance. If this remains undiscovered, the pedal hinge could fracture after continued operation, allowing the pedal to dislodge. A customer may not be able to properly actuate the brakes with a dislodged brake pedal. A non-functional brake or reduced braking power could result in a crash. No incidents have occurred in the U.S. to date.
