I built this car to keep busy over the winter of 2011,using what I learned from previous Vanagon to Subaru conversions. I bought the car off thesamba site from California. The guy I bought it from got it for the Raby built type IV motor and tranny, which he removed and installed into his '67. I had the car shipped to me with no motor or transmission.
It now has a 1993 Subaru 2.2 and"NEW" Rancho tranny with 3:88 r/p,It uses the stock ECU. No engine codes other than an intermittent "canister purge" code "because it is not wired". Engine has in the 80k miles range, but I cannot verify this to be fact. I did, however completely re-seal the motor to include new head gaskets, ft/rear crank seals, cam seals, new timing belt, valve cover gaskets. Has a new Burley Motorsports shortened oil pan. No leaks no drips.
Suspension all new..bearings, urethane bushings, Topline MaxxStruts, frt/rr sway bars, 4 wheel discs drilled for Mercedes bolt pattern, SwayAway adjustable spring plates, etc, etc.
Fully functional factory sunroof. Creative Carcraft widened fiberglass fenders with early style headlights.
Carbon fiber Kamei style air dam done by "Carbon Joe" in California. Those of you "in the know", realize how difficult it is to get hold of one of these done by Joe. I was fortunate enough to contact him at the right time.

Owned by a 55 year old VW enthusiast.
This car is an absolute blast to drive! Cruises 70mph at 3200 rpm...redline is 6500rpm.
It is a daily driver and mechanically sorted. I've taken it on trips over 200 miles and in city traffic. Excellent cooling with all aluminum V8 radiator and aluminum tubing.
I am continually adding to this car with some finishing touches. Just added a leather wrapped vintage period accessory steering wheel...see photo. There is a removable face head unit to go with the car which is not installed at this time. This is a rear seat delete and I am working on a package shelf for that area. There is a Vanagon under rear seat heater installed in the back with a 3 speed fan.

Note: Please ignore the date of the photos taken during the build. The camera did not have the correct date set at that time.

I can email more photos directly of any specific area needed to be seen. Of course in person is the best way to see the car and I encourage a first hand look.
I can put you in touch with people who previously have bought my project cars and Subaru powered van. We keep in touch and have become friends in the car hobby.

This will be a great buy for the right person looking for a fun and dependable daily driver which can be taken to the "next" level!!

Volkswagen Golf Variant Concept R-Line puts the sport in SportWagen

Wed, 06 Mar 2013

With the introduction of the newest Volkswagen Golf Variant, we get an early look at what will most likely be the next-generation Jetta SportWagen here in the US. To further wet our appetities, VW is now teasing something a little sportier with the Concept R-Line. Looking the part of a GTI wagon (or a stretched Golf R), the Golf Variant Concept R-Line has a production-ready appearance that has us hoping we'll see this sporty wagon sooner rather than later.
The R-Line starts off with a new fascia that isn't quite as aggressive as the recently introduced GTI, but it gives the new styling some extra punch. Below the fascia is a lower splitter that visually carries back into the rocker panel extensions, and the rear of the car gets some bright exhaust tips and a rear diffuser. The Lapis Blue Metallic paint job probably does enough on its own to add a sporty flair to the Golf wagon, and it's all finished off with 18-inch split-spoke wheels. Inside, the Concept R-Line shows off sport seats wrapped in carbon leather featuring blue nappa inserts in the middle.
Rightfully so, VW brought the Concept R-Line to Geneva with its TDI and 4Motion all-wheel-drive system. A sporty, all-wheel-drive diesel wagon? Yes, please. Scroll down for the full press blast with all the details.

Latest Volkswagen Transporter shows itself as the modern Microbus

Thu, Apr 16 2015

With a model history dating back to 1950, the newly unveiled Volkswagen Transporter has a long legacy to uphold as one of elder statesmen of the commercial vehicle world. The sixth generation maintains the classic boxy look, and VW even admits that the shape is "modernized cautiously." Still, the changes show handsome improvements like creases in the hood and a grille that better integrates into the headlights. Rather than styling, economy is more on the minds of many commercial buyers. VW ticks that box with an average 15-percent improvement in fuel consumption across the lineup, thanks in part to standard stop/start. The engine range includes a 2.0-liter diesel four-cylinder available in 83-, 101-, 148- and 201-horsepower variants. There's also a 2.0-liter gasoline-fueled four with either 148 hp or 201 hp. VW is really working to make the Transporter a safer, more comfortable carrier for its new generation. The van is available with features like adjustable shocks, adaptive cruise control, a power tailgate and the company's City Assist Braking system, which is capable of automatically bringing the van to a stop from under 19 mph. The Driver Alert System even monitors behavior behind the wheel and advises when to take a break. VW offers the T6 in many variants, including the Multivan for carrying people and mixed use Caravelle, but the highlight at launch is the fantastic looking Generation Six special edition (pictured above). Based on the Multivan Comfortline, the retro, two-tone paint is optional, but standard features include LED headlights, chrome trim and Alcantara seats. While the latest Transporter isn't coming to the US, European buyers can order one soon with a base price of 23,035 euros ($27,000). Generation SIX: world premiere of the new T series Classic Transporter design is even sharper, more precise, higher end Better fuel economy – new engines with stop/start function as standard Better safety – latest driver assistance systems More comfort and convenience – adaptive chassis, electrically adjustable seats and electric tailgate More information – new radio-navigation system with integrated online services Prices start below level of previous model Hannover/Amsterdam, 15 April 2015 – Today, the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles brand presents the sixth generation of the successful Transporter model series that is produced in Hannover.

Mixed sales results, but automaker stocks rise on need for cars in Houston

Fri, Sep 1 2017

DETROIT — The Big Three Detroit automakers on Friday reported better-than-expected August sales and issued optimistic outlooks for demand as residents of the Houston area replace flood-damaged cars and trucks after Hurricane Harvey, sending their stocks higher. General Motors, Ford and Fiat Chrysler posted mixed August U.S. sales, with GM up 7.5 percent and Ford and Fiat Chrysler down. Japanese automaker Toyota improved sales by nearly 7 percent, while Honda fell 2.4 percent. Still, analysts focused on the potential for Detroit automakers to cut inventories and stabilize used vehicle prices as residents of Houston, the fourth largest city in the United States, are forced to replace tens of thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands, of vehicles after the devastation from Hurricane Harvey. Mark LaNeve, Ford's U.S. sales chief, told analysts on Friday that following Hurricane Katrina in 2005 "we saw a very dramatic snapback" in demand. That said, Ford sales fell 2.1 percent in August. It sold 209,897 vehicles in the United States, compared with 214,482 a year earlier. Sales were down 1.9 percent in the Ford division and off 5.8 percent at Lincoln. Demand was down for cars, crossovers and SUVs. It was not clear how many vehicles in the Houston area will be scrapped, LaNeve said, saying he had seen estimates ranging from 200,000 to 400,000 to 1 million. Ford's Houston dealers may have lost fewer than 5,000 vehicles in inventory, he said. Ford is the No. 1 automaker in the Houston market, with 18 percent share, according to IHS Markit. The company plans to ship used vehicles to Houston dealers and has "every indication we would have to add some production" of new vehicles to meet demand, LaNeve said. Investor concerns about inventories of unsold vehicles and falling used car prices have weighed on Detroit automakers' shares most of this year. Now, automakers can anticipate a jolt of demand from a big market that is a stronghold for Detroit brand trucks and SUVs. "It's got to be a positive for the industry," LaNeve said. Investors appeared to agree. GM shares rose as much as 3.3 percent to their highest since early March. Ford increased 2.8 percent at $11.34, and Fiat Chrysler's U.S.-traded shares were up 5.2 percent $15.91, hitting their highest in more than five years. GM reported a 7.5 percent increase in U.S. auto sales in August, helped by robust sales of crossovers across its four brands.
