Offered here is a rather nice, unrestored, VW Beatle with just 27,000 miles since new.

I purchased this Beatle last year from a local family who were the 2nd owners of the car.

The story is that it originally belonged to a California exec. and family who kept a 2nd home here o the Eastern Shore of Maryland. It was used as a grocery getter and general errand car that rarely left the county, let alone the state.  The car sat in the garage for nine months of the year - thus the low mileage.

What documents I have, seems to prove this mileage out.  The title states 26,777 miles when last titled in October 2012 by the 2nd owners.

A brief description and tons of photos follow.

It's a classic standard Beatle in every way.  The only options on this US version Volkswagen was a radio that has since been removed.  And, someone along the way added an auxiliary heater blower and two cabin vents located under the rear seat along with the battery.

Along the way here I'll try to show as much detail of the car as possible.

I know some eBayers will not be able to inspect the car personally so I've posted as many photos as possible.

It's not quite like actually 'kicking the tires' but it's as close as I can get in this venue.

In this photo you can see some cracking to the paint on the valance panel located under the deck lid.  I have a detailed photo of this later area in this listing.

The car looks good from any angle.

It's not a show car by any means, more like a 'ten footer' in my way of looking at things.

There is very, very little rust on this Beatle ... I'll point out what I can.

In this photo you can see a slight difference in the paint tone ... it appears that the door was repainted at some time in the past.

All the body panels look good and show little signs of age or previous damage.

Almost anyone over forty years old has VW Bug stories to tell.  Honeymooned in one, went to the prom, had a great road trip, etc.  This nice example has some nice stories left in her.

The interior looks as good as the exterior.  Not perfect but nice.

Judging from the good condition of the seat covers I'd have to say that they were replaced at sometime with OEM covers - both front and back.  I could be wrong here, I just don't know.  They seem too good to me for 41 years old.

The outer ring steering wheel has a few age cracks as shown

Just 26,889 miles to date.  Should have a few left in her.

4-speed manual transmission ... you remember them, right?

The original radio is long gone.  A cheap piece of ply has been inserted to the radio slot as a jury-rigged insert instead of a proper 'radio delete' plate as would have come from the factory.

A few more views of the seating.

The headliner also looks good for it age with no holes.

The door panels show little signs of any real wear.

The engine runs great and was just serviced.

1,600 cc - about 50 HP of raw power.

This model should average about 30 MPG.

Notice light rust around the lip where the weather seal attaches.  Not a biggie but there.

Something needs to be said about the electrical system here.  When I purchased the car it was only able to run via a jump wire from the key ignition to the starter - it's the same now.

Simply said, the electrical system is wonky at best.  The car runs and drives but has little other electrical functions ... no lights, horn, wipers, etc.

I'm no electrician and haven't messed with the wiring at all.  Worst case scenario, it'll need a new wiring harness.  These are readily available for the many online suppliers if VW parts ... parts nowadays seem cheaper than when I was a kid and driving these VWs as daily drivers.

The tires are less than a year old and have very little wear to date.

Tires - Matched four of new 'Nankang' radial tires  - Size: 165/80R15 ... 95%+ tread remaining

All four turn signals are in great condition.

Here's the detail of the rear valance panel mentioned before.  It shows signs of previous body work.

Some details on the hood.

The VIN plate on the car ... shows a build date of May, 1973.

To wrap this up, this last group of exterior photos are just to show this Bug in a different light.

Former Audi chief designer Wolfgang Egger leaves Italdesign

Sat, Dec 27 2014

The latest word from the international community of automotive designers has it that Wolfgang Egger is leaving Italdesign, but just where the accomplished designer will land next and who will take his place remain big question marks. Egger is a designer who has bounced back and forth between Italy and Germany over the course of his career. He was born in Germany but studied in Milan. He began his career at Alfa Romeo in 1989 and was named its chief designer by 1993 before being head-hunted by the Volkswagen Group in 1998 to head up the design department at Seat. A few years later he went returned to Italy to run the Lancia design department, and was subsequently renamed to the same post at Alfa Romeo. In 2007 he went back to his native Germany to head up the Audi design office, over which he assumed complete responsibility by 2012, but left Audi in 2013 to run Italdesign. For those unfamiliar, Italdesign is the studio founded by Giorgetto Giugiaro (pictured at left next to Egger) back in 1968 but which, along with many other Italian design houses, fell on hard times in recent years. The Volkswagen Group swooped in to rescue the troubled studio in 2010, turning it into something of an in-house advanced design department to provide an alternative perspective on the direction in which the group and its various brands could take their respective designs moving forward. With Egger now leaving its helm, Italdesign and its German parent company will need to find his replacement, and we're sure they'll announce one in due course. The bigger question on our minds, however, is where Egger himself will head next. Given the path his career has taken to date, we wouldn't be surprised to see him land elsewhere in the Volkswagen Group or find a new role in the expanding Fiat Chrysler Automobiles empire. Then again, Egger could find it time to open an entirely new chapter. Watch this space. VW confirms Audi's emissions test transmission anomalies

Mon, Nov 14 2016

Just a week after reports that the California Air Resources Board (CARB) found an emissions cheat in some Audi automatic transmission software programs, parent company Volkswagen has come clean. As reported by Reuters, VW's response to an article by Munich's Sueddeutsche Zeitung stated that the adaptive shift functionality can "lead to incorrect and non-reproducible results." Adaptive shift programs alter the characteristics of a vehicle's transmission to suit different driving styles. Gentle driving will result in earlier shifts and lower engine revs, while hard-charging on the pedals and steering will make the transmission more responsive and hold gears longer. That adaptation can change over time or even on a short-term basis. And it can save fuel. The difference in this case is that is seems that the Audi transmissions were specifically programmed to detect emissions test conditions. As we explained in a previous article, one of those test conditions is keeping the wheel straight. Turning more than 15 degrees shuts the test mode off. According to Reuters, the US government is trying to determine whether this classifies as an emissions cheat device, although VW, Audi, and the EPA have not commented on the record. This latest accusation is separate from the larger VW diesel emissions scandal. Related Video: Image Credit: Getty Editorial Government/Legal Green Audi Volkswagen Emissions vw diesel scandal
