All original metal.. The beetle is a Formula Vee Beetle with it's original striping.. I bought his vehicle out of Butte Montana and it has been in storage since the early 90's. This is a 4 speed car..When I bought the car it came with no engine so I have been purchasing engine parts for this car and have a 1776 CC's engine almost complete to go with this car..I have purchased from Mofoco a late 1971 duel relief case machined (Still Std. Std. Std.) This case cost $600.00..I purchased Mofoco 42 heads also at a cost of $630.00.. I went with a new forged counter balanced crankshaft 69MM also new.. It come with a new Engle 110 cam and new Engle lifters & gears..The rods are rebulit German rods purchased also from Mofoco.. The jugs pistons and rings are also new as are the upgraded rockers and rocker covers..I purchased an Italian Weber IDF 40 for the car as well."

This is a very strong Volkswagen Beetle Formula Vee from 1972 with very little rust, original metal and paint.. This is a 4 speed and sunroof car. This car came from the dealer with the Formula Vee option which is very rare to see these days.. I have not painted the car because I wanted to preserve the Formula Vee striping as the concept with this car was for it to be a survivor, this decision was the right thing to do with this car per most of the VW Universe. I have put together a very nice 1776 engine with top quality parts from Mofoco including new 42 heads..Circa late 1971 duel relief case, bored out to 90.5 MM and align bored tested and such. Still spec out at Std. Std. Std...I purchased  a very nice Italian Weber 40 IDF Carb new Alternator from Bosch, new fuel pump and a rebuilt 009 distributor mechanical advance..new billit pullys..Nice original german tin.. New Kennedy stage II presure plate and 200MM clutch, New lightened flywheel, and new gland nut.  I have a New old stock German muffler and even two new old stock German heater boxes..All this engine needs to run is to have the rockers installed, distributor installed, coil and plug wires and a few misc parts.. The engine was put together this summer and all parts have been purchased with in the last 6 months.. The engine is sitting on the engine stand.. I also installed a  new 1.5 qt. oil sump and an external oil filter.. All the parts are new in this engine except for the rebuilt german rods and push rods.. The tin is used original German ,but much better than after market stuff... The Beetle also comes with the original Formula Vee wheels (4)  which believe it or not are 14"....This is a very nice example of a clean 1972 Volkswagen that needs finished.. I want this to go to a VW person who knows how to work on these and understands that the engine needs finished and that it needs to be checked out here and there..The brakes also need attending but the car has been in storage since 1993..It will come with all the tires inflated and ready to place on your truck.. I have just over $3K in the engine alone. I have over $5K in the complete package..I have lost storage on this car and I must sell it..I am asking a very reasonable price for this car.. I will work with the buyer on shipping and can store the car until the end of November in a dry garage at no additional charge..Questions fendertelenam   at Yahoo dot com or call 414-627-0473..I am Tom..Respectfully..............  NOTE  This Car Is A Standard Beetle it is NOT a SUPER BEETLE.. The listing will not let me make the correction...Car also comes with new carpeting in the box, a luggage rack and other stuff like repair books and such..**** Note this car Has a new counter balanced crankshaft with a 69MM stroke which will displace 1776 cc's wiith the 90.5 mm pistons.. I had the case machined to accept this which is the better prefered way to accomplish this modification.... Because of the vents under the front bumper of the car I have been told that this is a Super beetle but it is a Standard by title and by the interior..This car has all original pannels so I have no clue as to why the vents are there..I am a honest seller and I represent this as a stock body..I can not say why the vents are there or if they are supposed to be there or not...Tom.........................................Ok Men and Women in the VW Universe.. Being a very experienced VW Guy I will tell you that I looked long and hard before I  found this bug...They just dont come up like this very often especially at a realstic price... So if a VW project is in your future or you want a bug, this is finally" the one"... This is the one you have been waiting for... heck, the engine cost more than the asking price... So,  I suggest you dont let this one get away.. at this price you just can not go wrong.... This is the one.. it's just that simple..Tom... by the way in the Last four hrs i have 22 watches and 180 views... Someone needs to step up and claim the bug..

2015 Volkswagen Golf SportWagen First Drive [w/video]

Wed, Mar 25 2015

Volkswagen currently offers five Golf models in the US, and in just a few weeks it will add the 2015 SportWagen to the lineup. The previous version sold as the Jetta SportWagen, although it was technically a Golf. For the new model, VW product planners decided to align all the hatchbacks under the same name. The SportWagen employs the same engines as the Golf, but significantly stretches its new MQB architecture. The result is greater practicality in the form of cargo room. With the seats up the SportWagen holds 30.4 cubic feet, almost 8 more than the Golf. The gap widens to nearly 14 cu ft with the seats folded; a max capacity of 66.5 cu ft puts the SportWagen into compact crossover territory. That added functionality leads VW to think it can sway buyers shopping the likes of the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4. And with the high-mpg diesel variant – 31 mpg city, up to 43 highway – VW hopes to lure those considering fuel-sipping MPVs like the Toyota Prius V and Ford C-MAX. What separates this Golf from those other two segments is the driving prowess we've come to expect from Wolfsburg's best-selling nameplate. While the silhouette is similar to the outgoing Jetta wagon, designers honed the character lines to give the Golf SportWagen a more modern, angular aesthetic. The LED headlights look sharp, the hood now scoops down at a steeper angle into the front fenders, and the general proportions – in line with other Golf models – have changed. The new SportWagen is lower, longer, and wider and than the Jetta SportWagen it replaces. Specifically, it is 1.1 inches longer, 0.7 inches wider, and despite being about an inch lower, actually boasts more headroom. Inside, things look pretty familiar to the current Golf family. There are small, premium touches such as a sporty, flat-ish-bottom wheel, piano-black trim, and an optional one-touch panoramic sunroof that makes the cabin a bright, airy, and pleasant place to be. Otherwise, it's your standard Golf fare, but with a whole lot more room out back. The same two engines that power the standard Golf – the 1.8-liter turbocharged inline-four TSI, and 2.0-liter turbocharged TDI diesel – are also found under the hood of the SportWagen. Gasoline-powered models come with a five-speed manual or a traditional six-speed auto, while the TDI gets six-speed transmissions across the board – either as a row-your-own manual, or a dual-clutch DSG auto with steering wheel-mounted paddles.

VW invests in QuantumScape for potentially fireproof, long-range EV batteries

Mon, Dec 8 2014

VW might be getting ready to push its plug-in technology in a big way thanks to an investment in the battery startup QuantumScape. Key point: the solid-state battery is said to be fireproof and will offer tremendous range advantages. Details are not abundant yet, but according to Bloomberg, VW of America bought a five-percent stake in QuantumScape (and has an option to raise its holding). The tech could "more than triple" the EV range of VW, Porsche and Audi plug-in vehicles as soon as the middle of 2015, according to unnamed sources that Bloomberg talked to. Former Stanford University researchers started QuantumScape in 2010. The bare-bones QuantumScape website (there's nothing there other than some contact information) doesn't offer many hints about what's happening at the company, but GigaOM's Katie Fehrenbacher notes that QuantumScape is licensing tech from the "All Electron Battery" project at Stanford a few years ago. It certainly sounds amazing: [It's] a completely new class of electrical energy storage devices for electric vehicles that has the potential to provide ultra-high energy and power densities, while enabling extremely high cycle life. The All-Electron Battery stores energy by moving electrons, rather than ions, and uses electron/hole redox instead of capacitive polarization of a double-layer. ... If successful, this project will develop a completely new paradigm in energy storage for electrified vehicles that could revolutionize the electric vehicle industry. If that's what's coming in a future e-Golf or E-Tron, sign us up.

VW CFO Hans Dieter Potsch nominated as new board chairman

Fri, Sep 4 2015

The search for a successor to Ferdinand Piech has come to an end as the Volkswagen Group has nominated a new chairman. The Executive and Nomination committees of VW's Supervisory Board have put their weight behind one Hans Dieter Potsch, who currently serves on the company's management board as its chief financial officer. He's expected to continue in his current role until November when an extraordinary general meeting of the supervisory board can be called to confirm his nomination and a replacement CFO can be found to take his place. As you may recall, the chairmanship of the Volkswagen board fell until recently to Ferdinand Piech, grandson of Ferdinand Porsche and one of the principals of the Porsche family that holds over 50 percent ownership in Volkswagen through Porsche Automobil Holding SE. Piech went head to head with VW CEO Martin Winterkorn and ultimately lost. Piech resigned and Winterkorn is about to have his term as chief executive extended through the end of 2018. In Piech's place, former union head Berthold Huber was named as interim chairman, but is now referred to in the statement below once again as deputy chairman instead. An Austrian native, Potsch is an industrial engineer by training. He started his career at BMW where he ultimately served as group controller, and subsequently served as CFO and as chairman at a number of German corporations. Potsch joined the VW management board in 2003, initially without portfolio, and soon assumed the financial portfolio – a role he has held until now. In 2009 he took on the additional role of chief financial officer at the Porsche holding company, whose supervisory board representatives are the parties proposing Potsch's nomination as the group's new chairman – even though he is not, strictly speaking, one of their own. In a related development, it appears that Julia Kuhn-Piech will be leaving her board seat sooner than expected. The departing chairman Ferdinand Piech opposed his niece's nomination to the board in his place, and now she'll apparently be stepping down to make way for the family's new choice of chairman.
