Hi,  this great bug came from a 93 yr old man in Carmel California back in 2010. He was obsessive about taking it to the same guy  for upkeep and service for over 40 years. He garaged it for all that time. It's mechanically about a 9 out of 10. It's cosmetically on the outside about an 8 conservatively and all original . There is no other rust/rot on this car anywhere other than the spot on the engine lid shown in pic, this car is SOLID !! The inside is about a 9 and is about 90 % original? The two front seats have some tears on them so I just ordered nice quality ,factory style covers from TMI Interiors, They will go with the car. I will put them on before the car goes if I have them by then. The back seats are like new and all original. It has a super Statomat radio and a Bambus German parcel shelf.. The heat works excellent in this car.  The rear engine Lid at the bottom has  some rust spots from the lid drain being clogged. Other than that , there are only a few other minor blemishes in the cars finish. The car looks amazing, you would have to be looking for the imperfections . This car has only been driven roughly 3000 miles since being transported here to new England 4 years ago. Very limited use.  This is not a Mint  show car , but visually is a very nice looking original car That is a super tight driver. The underneath is perfect.  Car drives like it has 66k on it. All service records complete back to the mid 80s and I have the original Blue plates from Cali. Compression is 125 in all 4 cylinders .  It's a 1500 engine with 24,000 well serviced miles .The motor was replaced 24k miles ago when the car had 40k. It was a GEX Rebuilt motor,  I have receipts detailing this. This car doesn't need a thing ! It is ready to be driven & enjoyed now.. I live a few miles off I95 near the MA/NH Line. You are more than welcome to come view the car anytime. Just drop an email. Also , very easy for a transporter to pick up the car. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding !!! THIS IS A NO- RESERVE AUCTION. SO, BID TO WIN ! THE CAR IS ALSO FOR SALE LOCALLY AND I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO END THE AUCTION EARLY IF THE CAR SELLS BEFORE THE AUCTION ENDS......WITH BUY IT NOW , I WILL HAVE IT DELIVERED FOR FREE UP TO 200 MILES..

VW considering single, cheaper li-ion cell for all plug-in vehicle batteries

Wed, Apr 22 2015

Volkswagen is finding rapid success in the battery electric vehicle market; especially in Europe where the e-Golf is already the segment sales leader. Recent concepts like the C Coupe GTE, Sport Coupe GTE and Cross Coupe GTE suggest more plug-in hybrids from the company are on the way, too. To make future models more economical, the German automotive giant is considering switching to a standard design for its lithium-ion battery cells. Using standardized parts is a long-accepted principle in production because it leads to economies of scale, and a company can pass on the savings to buyers or pocket the money to boost profits. VW is aiming for a massive 66-percent drop in costs by switching to a unified design, according to Heinz-Jakob Neusser, the board member in charge of development, to Automotive News. While the cells would be uniform, they could be crafted into different modules to fit each specific model. VW currently buys cells from Panasonic and Samsung for various models, but under the new plan all of the automaker's brands would switch to a single one. "We have a clear understanding in the group of a common cell," Neusser said, according to Automotive News, without suggesting when a change might happen. VW also has a few months decide on a different future for its EVs. The automaker is reportedly considering whether to use sold-state lithium-ion batteries from a US-based supplier for upcoming models. The next-gen tech could potentially give a massive boost in range while also being fireproof.

Jack Kevorkian's old van up for sale in Detroit [w/video]

Tue, Aug 25 2015

With Halloween fast approaching, a Detroit pawnshop is offering a macabre automotive memento to park in your garage – Dr. Jack Kevorkian's Volkswagen Bus (pictured above in 1990). The van is currently a broken-down heap with the interior a mess, but the title and registration proves Dr. Kevorkian's ownership. The pawnbroker is hoping to get $40,000 for the ghoulish ride, according to an interview with Fox 2 News. If you're unfamiliar, Dr. Kevorkian rose to prominence in the '90s when he helped with 130 assisted suicides. It earned him the nickname Dr. Death, and he was eventually convicted of second-degree murder in 1999, serving eight years in prison. He died in 2011. Kevorkian's VW has had quite a history. The van was reportedly due to be destroyed in 1997 but somehow avoided the crusher. A retired VW parts dealer put the bus on eBay in 2010, but the vehicle was removed for violating the site's policy against selling "murderabilia." The VW eventually went to auction, but this report said that it hasn't moved in over two years. The video below shows the decrepit vehicle currently, and the gallery above has period photos from the Associated Press. This content is hosted by a third party. Dealers, owners feel betrayed by VW scandal

Thu, Sep 24 2015

Bob Rand bought his Volkswagen Passat last year for its clean emissions and high gas mileage. He liked the car so much he convinced his son and a friend to buy one, too. Now, as Volkswagen comes clean about rigging diesel emissions to pass US tests, Rand is desperately trying to sell the fully loaded model with white leather seats for $10,000 below what he paid. His sole bite has been from a man who offered $7,500 on speculation that he could resell it in Mexico. "Volkswagen was somebody that you could rely on for cutting-edge products and quality and all those things and now you find out that they're not above lying just flat out," said Rand, who plans to join a class-action lawsuit against VW. "That's probably about as bad a thing as a company can do is lie to your face when you're buying a $35,000 car." Rand's anger at the world's top-selling car company was echoed Wednesday by private dealers, auto wholesalers and owners across the US as fallout from the smog test trickery mounted. The US Environmental Protection Agency first disclosed Friday that stealth software makes VW's 2009-2015 model cars powered by 2.0-liter diesel engines run cleaner during emissions tests than in actual driving. On Wednesday, CEO Martin Winterkorn resigned and took responsibility for the "irregularities" found by US inspectors - a scandal that has wiped out billions in the company's market value and raised the possibility of criminal investigations and billions more in fines. The revelations left dealers sitting on hundreds of diesel cars they could not sell. Many also dealt with a flood of angry calls, emails and tweets from Volkswagen owners who felt betrayed because they believed they had bought a car that polluted less without sacrificing the good gas mileage and performance that comes with a diesel engine. "I think their feet should be held to the fire." - Joe DeCarolis "I think their feet should be held to the fire. I think apologies don't mean anything when something is so premeditated," said Joe DeCarolis, of Cary, NC, who owns a 2012 TDI Jetta Sport Wagon — a car he bought after careful comparison shopping for its clean emissions and good gas mileage. Dealers can't give customers good answers because Volkswagen hasn't said a whole lot, said AutoNation CEO Mike Jackson, the leader of the largest auto dealership chain in the US.
