AM/FM CD Player with AUX hookup installed. AUX wiring is currently run into the glovebox and available throughout front/rear seat of car.

Bright Red Paint (not original) - Great older paint job in decent condition with a few chips here & there. Car was originally painted green (which can be seen deep in engine compartment and in areas under hood.

Body has very little rust anywhere. A few paint chips or scratches show a little rust, but only surface. Floor pans are surface rusted but have no holes (aside from one drilled through to resolve the infamous passenger side leak from driving while its raining). Some body rust is visible deep in the engine compartment (where the fenders meet the body & firewall), but has not progressed while I've owned the car and appears to have been sealed off when the vehicle was painted.

Tan Cloth Interior (not original) - Seats and headliner are in great condition, carpet is in decent shape but could use an update.

Engine starts right away and runs well. It could use timing and a tune-up, but has been my daily driver for the last 10 months (including regular 60 miles trips between Cleveland and Sandusky area). I have not had a single breakdown and the car has always started without a problem.

All four tires are new within the last 10 months.

New heater boxes were installed in January. The interior controls have not been hooked up. My mechanic open's the boxes in the late fall and closes them in the spring. Having driven several old VW's, I am amazed at how much heat this thing puts out. If its warmer than 15° outside you'll need to crack a window!

REASON FOR SELLING:

I am only selling this car as we are making an effort to be a one car household, and this one is the least practical to meet all of our needs. The car has been dependable year-round for me and is a blast to drive.

Germany is finally getting serious about self-driving cars

Germany cleared the way for its giant automotive industry to develop and test self-driving cars, when the upper house of its parliament approved on Friday a law setting out the conditions under which they could take to German roads. Under the law, first mooted by Chancellor Angela Merkel last year, a driver must be sitting behind the wheel at all times ready to take back control if prompted to do so by the autonomous vehicle. Germany is home to some of the world's largest car companies, including Volkswagen, Daimler and BMW, all of which are investing heavily in a technology seen by transport minister Alexander Dobrindt as the "greatest mobility revolution since the invention of the car." That's not to say that German automakers have been standing still in the face of autonomous technology. VW recently outlined its vision for autonomous vehicles. BMW has already demonstrated self-driving vehicles in the United States, and Mercedes-Benz has partnered up with German auto supplier Bosch on autonomous technology. The new legislation allows German car companies to road-test vehicles in which drivers will be allowed to take their hands off the wheel and their eyes off the road to browse the web or check e-mails while the vehicle handles steering or braking autonomously. The legislation requires that a black box record the journey underway, logging whether the human driver or the car's self-piloting system was in charge at all moments of the ride. This will be crucial for apportioning blame in accidents. The driver will bear responsibility for accidents that take place under his or her watch, under the legislation, but if the self-driving system is in charge and a system failure is to blame, the manufacturer will be responsible. The law will be revised in two years' time in the light of technological developments, with data protection and the use of the data collected during rides a key point that has yet to be fully addressed. Companies around the globe are working on prototypes for self-driving vehicles, but such cars are not expected to be available for the mass market before 2020. Automakers want to stop the EPA's fuel economy rules change, and why that's a shortsighted move

With a Trump Administration looming, the EPA moved quickly after the election to propose finalizing future fuel economy rules last week. The auto industry doesn't like that (surprise), and has started making moves to stop the EPA. Ford CEO Mark Fields said he wanted to lobby Trump to lower the standards, and now the Auto Alliance, a manufacturer group, is saying it will join the fight against cleaner cars. The Alliance represents 12 automakers: BMW, Fiat Chrysler, Ford, GM, Jaguar Land Rover, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Porsche, Toyota, VW, and Volvo. Gloria Bergquist, a spokesperson for the Alliance, told Automotive News that the "EPA's sudden and controversial move to propose auto regulations eight months early - even after Congress warned agencies about taking such steps while political appointees were packing their bags - calls out for congressional action to pause this rulemaking until a thoughtful policy review can occur." The EPA was going to consider public comments through April 2017, but then said it would move the deadline to the end of December. That means that it can finalize the rules before President Obama leaves office. The director of public affairs for the Consumer Federation of America, Jack Gillis, said on a conference call with reporters last week when the EPA originally announced its decision that it is unlikely that President Trump will be able to roll back these changes. Gillis also said on the same call that any attempt by the automakers to prevent these changes would be history repeating itself. "These are the same companies that fought airbags, and now promoting the fact that every car has multiple airbags," he said. "These are the same companies that fought the crash-test program, and now are promoting the crash-test ratings published by the government. So, it's clear that they're misperceiving the needs of the American consumer." There are more reasons the Allliance's pushback is flawed. Carol Lee Rawn, the transportation program director for Ceres, said on that call that the automotive industry is a global one, and many automakers are moving to global platforms to help them meet strict fuel economy rules around the world.

VW recalling 2.4M cars in Germany over software cheat

German authorities are giving Volkswagen no choice but to repair diesel vehicles in the country that are equipped with software to evade emissions tests. The German federal transport authority is requesting a mandatory recall for 2.4 million models with the cheating engines starting in early 2016, according to Automotive News. The regulators are also demanding that the company outline a fix for the problem to them in November. A mandatory recall should allow all of the vehicles to be repaired sooner, but it's also going to cost VW more money. Company CEO Matthias Muller previously said he expected the repairs to be done by the end of 2016. According to Automotive News citing a report from Germany's Bild, VW had originally asked the German regulators to make the campaign a voluntary one. Unsurprisingly, that request was denied. VW hasn't been specific about how it plans to fix the 11 million engines around the world with the rigged software. An update is expected for many of them, but mechanical changes might be necessary for others. On this side of the Atlantic, VW has until Nov. 20 to outline fixes for regulators in California. Although, the Environmental Protection Agency intends to check any proposed fixes thoroughly to make sure that they actually work. That process could take months. Related Video:
