1967 Beetle, first year of 12 volt. 1600 dualport engine with Bugpack shifter and quad exhaust. Single carb. Original pan and heater channels. Originally a "left"coast/ New Mexico car, hence the original sheetmetal. Bumper guards, backup lights and roofrack . New weatherstripping and the runningboards are solid and all gaps line up just fine. Doors, hood and trunk all close as they should, no sagging or mis-alignment.Suspension was gone through and all parts were replaced with new factory components. Chrome hardware shines with a couple of small imperfections. Interior, headliner and dash are perfect and uncut or modified with original VDO gauges, gas & speedometer. The DS seat needed new foam so the previous owner redid the entire interior. The fabric under the rear window is starting to lift by 1 corner. All glass is clear and not foggy or cracked. The PS front window rubber is starting to crack. Easy fix for about $30.00. The original taillights are starting to "fog" up but they are 46 years old.The side rear windows do not popout. That was an option on 1967 models .Rockford Fosgate in dash CD player with remote. Painted two tone in the early 2000's and has been stored indoors in a heated building since. The colors are Frontier Beige / Bombay Ivory. This Beetle runs /stops and steers great but the brakes should be bled due to long-term storage. I did drive it today and the steering is tight, shifts just fine but I suggest going through the brakes prior to any long distance travel. Tires are 100% tread also. Original jack and spare tire along with hubcaps and VIN plate and seatbelts along with owner's manual.  The original color was red but the bodywork and paint are first class with no short cuts or shoddy workmanship evident. Wheelwells and fenders are all metal, no filler, anywhere!! I "chased" this car for ten years from the prior eccentric owner. Look at the pictures and you be the judge. Compare this 1967 to others that are for sale. It always draws a crowd, whether it is driven, parked or at a car show. As always, I strongly advise that this car be looked at in person and I will gladly store indoors until pickup. This VW was on a cover of a local magazine as a first prize in a contest prior to my ownership.  I have a copy of the magazine  with pictures. See the last picture.  I am sure I forgot some of the specifics so just inquire and I will answer all questions as best I can. Odometer shows 45,000 miles. I know that there are less than 10,000 miles since the larger engine was installed and the body was refreshed.   Clear title and I am not looking for any trades at this time. Bidders with less than 10 positive feedbacks will be cancelled. A $500.00 deposit (non-refundable) is due 5 days after the auction ends. Balance to paid in cash prior to the new owner's possession.  Car is also for sale locally and I can cancel this auction at anytime. I am downsizing my collection and this vehicle is being sold as is due to it being 46/47 years old. No surfboard is included with this Beetle.  Check my feedback and bid/own with confidence. I can store this 1967 Beetle until Christmas or Spring 2014. Located  30 minutes from S.Bend airport

2015 Volkswagen Golf R [w/video]

Mon, Nov 24 2014

Volkswagen hired a photographer to come shoot the handful of journalists that it brought to drive the 2015 Golf R at Buttonwillow Raceway north of Los Angeles. This fact, though unremarkable in and of itself, was something I hadn't noticed until I was well into my track time – probably ten laps deep on a day that would see me run twice that number. In any event, I noticed the intrepid shooter as he was sprinting from one side of the track to the other somewhere before Turn 2, while I was barreling down the main straightaway, still looking through Turn 1. In the roughly two-mile configuration of the track that I drove, Buttonwillow is a big, wide-open circuit, largely flat and with excellent overall visibility. On that layout, and just hours into my Golf R experience, I'd already become confident in endeavoring to push the limits of VW's latest blistering hatch. In fact, the easy nature of driving the thing quickly had me overestimating my pace. So when I saw the photog sprint across the tarmac I instinctively slowed way too much, way too early for Turn 1. Looking back at the incident after I'd pitted for the session, I laughed at myself, knowing I'd have had to be driving almost double my actual speed to put the camera guy in any real danger of being hit. But the experience crystallized what my full test of the R bore out: this is a car that makes you feel much faster than you otherwise would, at least in a competition setting. The 2015 Golf R is an uber hatch that will flatter those hyper-enthusiasts passionate enough to splash out on its steep price tag, but without threatening sales of core models like the GTI and its ilk. That's a good thing for the VW fanboys, to be sure, and, I'd argue, a great thing for the strength of the German brand overall. {C} The R felt both placid and comfortable while I clicked off highway miles in search of the racetrack. My test in California had at least two things in common with the First Drive feature that Steve Ewing brought us with the Golf R in Sweden. First, we both drove European specification cars (though mine didn't suffer from the same sticker abuse that Steve's did). Second, we were both somewhat limited in terms of driving the car in varied, real-world situations. My street route consisted almost entirely of tracking California's I-5 north out of Los Angeles; which any Angelino will tell you is a less-than-riveting mode of travel.

Carlex Criollo is a Volkswagen Multivan shrine to Alcantara, leather and... fish

Wed, 10 Jul 2013

A keen angler recently went to Polish tuner Carlex Design (the same folks who did that steampunk Mini Countryman a while back) for a revamp of his Volkswagen Multivan. What resulted is perhaps the most striking - yet fishing-unfriendly - interior we've ever seen in a van. Below the shoulder line, if a surface isn't covered in cross-stitched Alcantara, then it's covered in cross-stitched leather. Even the steering wheel airbag boss. And the seat supports. And the cupholders.
The brown hue of the Multivan's interior is called Criollo, named for an especially fine specimen of cocoa. The finishing touch on the overhaul is a fileting knife that Carlex made for the owner. We imagine he'll use the knife for the marine life, but keep his van far away from it.
