This 1966 VW Beetle is barn fresh and waiting to be driven again. If you have been looking for a classic Beetle that hasn't been wrecked, rebuilt or modified then here is your car.

The car is 100% complete, from the paint code decal under the hood to the Wolfsburg Crest logo seatbelts. It's also one of the most sought after color combinations, black over red.

It has it's original numbers matching 1300cc motor which is an FO block based on VW records. The VIN and Motor were both produced in mid November of 1965. The wheels as well as the speedometer are also dated November 1965 (see pics) proving that this is indeed a numbers matching vehicle.

The beetle shows well as is even though it hasn't been cleaned since it's rescue. It looks to have had a respray at some point in it's life. All of the body panels and bumpers are original German, no aftermarket repro's here. The interior as well as the seat covers are still orginal from 1966. Even the original Sapphire III radio plays strong through the original Bendix Speaker.

The overall structure of the car is fairly solid. It was never hit in the front or rear.  The front beam and the floors appear to be in good condition. The heater channels are a little soft on the bottom side and could use some patching. I don't think it warrants complete heater channel replacement. The roof has some minor dents from items being stored on it while it was garaged.

Even though this Beetle has sat dormant for so many years, it started right up with a new 6 volt battery, points filed and a little fuel. The engine sounds very strong (see video).

Although the exact history of the Beetle is unknown, based on it's appearance and of all the original parts, its safe to assume that the 58,000 on the odometer are original miles. It may have been a one owner car, or perhaps in the same family for a number of years before it was put into hibernation for many years there after.

The Beetle will start and drive on its own power, but is not road ready, so please don't ask if it will make the drive from RI to California. It will need all the things a car would need attending to after a long rest like brakes, tires, fuel tank flush, fuel lines replaced, etc.  It will have no problem driving onto a trailer for transport.

The Beetle is registered in the State of Rhode Island and will be sold with a bill of sale and a copy of the current registration. Rhode Island doesn't issue Vehicle 10 years or older a title so check with your local state laws for what you may need.

Local bidders are welcome to inspect the VW, just email for an appointment. Shipping is the buyer's responsibility and a $500 deposit via paypal is require within 24 hours of the end of the auction. The balance is due within 7 days thereafter.

So, in closing it's getting harder and harder to find a Classic VW Beetle in all original condition with all of it's original parts. This 1966 is a perfect candidate for a "Patina" cruiser, or a full blown restoration. The choice is yours. Let the pics and video tell the story.

As VW electrifies, it questions the role of Lamborghini, Bugatti, Ducati

Wed, Sep 30 2020

FRANKFURT — Volkswagen needs to change to stay relevant in the electric and digital vehicle era and will announce "important steps" to that end before the close of the year, Chief Executive Herbert Diess said on Wednesday. "Volkswagen needs to change: From a collection of valuable brands and fascinating combustion-engine products that thrill customers with superb engineering — to a digital company that reliably operates millions of mobility devices worldwide," Diess told shareholders at the company's virtual general meeting. Vehicles need to stay in contact with customers, offer new services and comfort functions on a weekly or even daily basis, he said. "We will take further important steps to set the course for this in the rest of 2020," Diess said. Senior executives told Reuters the company is reviewing what role its high-performance brands Lamborghini, Bugatti and Ducati will play as the company increasingly focuses on electric, digital and autonomous vehicles. Volkswagen, which also owns VW, Audi, Porsche, Seat and Skoda, is looking at whether it has the resources to accelerate development of electric platforms for smaller brands at a time it is investing billions to transform its more mainstream cars. Asked whether Ducati, which is known for making noisy combustion-engined motorbikes, has an electric future, Markus Duesmann, who oversees research and development for the group, said: "It will not take long until we see an electric Ducati." Whether Ducati, which is a medium-sized premium motorbike brand, would offer an electric variant, depends on whether a bike could offer range comparable to a combustion-engined variant, Duesmann said. Advances are being made in battery technology which could make this possible, he added. Separately Frank Witter, the company's chief financial officer, in response to a question about whether a sale of Lamborghini is planned, said Volkswagen does not comment on speculation about potential divestments. Lamborghini's Chief Executive Stefano Domenicali this week announced his departure from the sports car maker to take on a new job as president of Formula One. VW needs cash Volkswagen is reviewing the future of these three high-performance brands as part of broader quest for more economies of scale as it shifts to mass producing electric cars, senior executives told Reuters.

Import pickup truck-killing Chicken Tax to be repealed?

Tue, Jun 30 2015

After over 50 years, the so-called Chicken Tax may finally be going the way of the dodo. Two pending trade deals with countries in the Pacific Rim and Europe potentially could open the US auto market up to imported trucks, if the measures pass. Although, it still might be a while before you can own that Volkswagen Amarok or Toyota Hilux, if ever. The 25-percent import tariff that the Chicken Tax imposes on foreign trucks essentially makes the things all but impossible to sell one profitably in the US, which lends a distinct advantage to domestic pickups. Both the Trans-Pacific Partnership with 12 counties and Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership with the European Union would finally end the charge. According to Automotive News though, don't expect new pickups to flood the market, at least not immediately. These deals might roll back the tariff gradually over time, and in the case of Japan, it could be as long as 25 years before fully free trade. Furthermore, Thailand, a major truck builder in Asia, isn't currently part of the deal, and any new models here would still need to meet safety and emissions rules, as well. Automotive News gauged the very early intentions of several automakers with foreign-built trucks, and they weren't necessarily champing at the bit to start imports. Toyota thinks the Hilux sits between the Tundra and Tacoma, and Mazda doesn't think the BT-50 fits its image here. Also, VW doesn't necessarily want to bring the Amarok over from Hannover. There is previous precedent for companies at least considering bringing in pickup trucks after the Chicken Tax's demise, though. The Pacific free trade deal could be done as soon as this fall, while the EU one is likely further out, according to Automotive News. Given enough time, the more accessible ports could allow some new trucks to enter the market.

VW may make Bentley a subsidiary of Audi

Sun, Oct 25 2020

FRANKFURT — Volkswagen plans to make British luxury carmaker Bentley a subsidiary of its Audi division as it seeks economies of scale among its top-end brands, German trade publication Automobilwoche reported. Bentley, for now overseen by the head of VW's Porsche business, Oliver Blume, will from next year be part of Audi, where VW group Chief Executive Herbert Diess believes it has more potential, Automobilwoche cited company sources as saying. Synergies could include using Audi technology for a new Bentley SUV, it added. Volkswagen, which declined to comment on the report, is reviewing the future of its high-performance brands Lamborghini, Bugatti and Ducati motorcycles as part of broader quest for more economies of scale as it shifts to mass producing electric cars. Sources familiar with the matter told Reuters this month that Volkswagen was working on plans to prepare Lamborghini for a stock market listing. Related Video: Audi Bentley Volkswagen
