I bought this car almost two years ago from a dealer in AZ, who had picked it up from the original owner in AZ a few months earlier. What impressed me the most was that the original owner had kept meticulous notes from the day he got the car new in December 1964 (when he was 19 years old, I believe). His original notebook comes with the car, listing every time he filled the tank, changed the oil, rotated the tires, etc, for the first 9 years of its life (mostly in southern CA). He clearly babied it, finally selling it when he was 66. I bought the car to teach my son basic mechanics, and for him to ultimately drive to school. But after we fixed its few ailments my wife convinced me that he should start out with an automatic. It is mechanically solid and reliable, and the body is in great shape. The recent overspray isn't perfect, but it looks great as a driver. If we were to keep it, I would recover the seats. The rear seat is still fine, but the front seats are pretty ugly under those sheepskin covers. The carpet looks to have been replaced at some point.
The roof rack is functional and easily removable. The original owner installed two colored lights and a switch on the dash, but I have no idea why. I guess a purist could easily fill those holes if it were to be restored to original. The radio is clearly aftermarket, but works. I will also include a cover, a right side mirror, front license plate brackets and a wicker under-dash shelf that I've not yet installed. I also have a pair of 1965 TX plates that I'll include if the buyer is in TX.
This is the least exotic of the classics I own, but it gets the most smiles and waves when I take it on the road. It is perfect for a single guy looking to strike up conversations with women over 30. Like driving a puppy.
Original motor and 4spd transmission; I'm told the engine was rebuilt at 80K; usual VW drip at filter screen; no smoke.
New clutch and clutch cable; new distributor; 12V; original air cleaner comes with the car.
Brakes done less than 10K ago, with new master cylinder; tires are good.
Solid and straight body; no bondo or rust issues; good glass; newer paint was done before I bought it, and still looks good.
Lights and gauges all work; inspected and registered in TX; very reliable; starts right up; no overheating.
Odometer stopped turning about 100 miles ago; the cable has probably backed out, but I haven't had the chance to look yet.

I've tried to be as accurate and thorough in my description as possible. I'm not a dealer, and there is no warranty of any sort. I invite in-person inspections, and have clear title. Non-refundable deposit is due within 48 hours. Shipment is your responsibility; car won't be released without full payment, which must be received within 30 days.
There are many bugs out there, but few that are this nice without having been fully restored. Relive some memories, or make some new ones.

A VW will help you keep control of your terrible children, apparently
Wed, Apr 29 2015Not all kids are angels, and in fact some of them can be destructive little monsters at the worst of times. Parents know it, too. Volkswagen is playing on adults' fear of being publicly embarrassed by their progeny in an extremely clever ad, touting the long-distance driving range of the Passat TDI. Titled Mom, the spot is certainly one of the more creative sales pitches ever devised for a vehicle's fuel economy. The ad allows three little boys to go absolutely wild in a convenience store as a horrified cashier watches. Although, the commercial certainly raises the question: what mom would actually let her kids run around unattended while pumping gas?
Audi's Project Artemis woes could delay range of VW Group EVs
Tue, Jul 19 2022Two years ago, Audi's then new CEO Markus Duesmann announced his first big initiative called Project Artemis. The plan's marquee component is "to implement a new lighthouse project for Audi in record time," being "a highly efficient electric car scheduled to be on the road as early as 2024" on a brand new platform that would be shared with Porsche and Bentley. An ex-VW and -Porsche man named Alex Hitzinger, who'd also spent time at Apple working on the tech company's electric car, was brought on board to lead Project Artemis and come up with new ideas. Parent Volkswagen Group said it wanted to become "as agile as in a racing team," removing the bureaucratic molasses and bottlenecks interfering with getting the best product on the road in the best time. However, in any grand venture, failure comes before success. Automobilwoche reports that Artemis is struggling through issues large enough to push the product plans back by years. The issue, as it was with the ID.3 lineup on the eve of that car's launch, is software. Well, that's the latest, largest problem; Artemis has already been through copious struggles before getting to the software bit. Two months after Hitzinger came on, in December 2020, VW raised its EV volume target from 50% to 70% by 2030. That necessitated a rethink of the VW Group's entire platform strategy considering the far greater production scale. Hitzinger only lasted six months in the job, ousted in May 2021, supposedly because Audi believed his ideas were "not suitable for profitable series production" among other reasons. By that time, the pace of software development was already said to be six months behind schedule, with the Car.Software division working on VW.OS 2.0 "not yet running at the speed hoped for." Internal frictions were noteworthy and costly as well. VW's commercial division plant in Hanover was meant to build Artemis vehicles for Audi, Porsche and Bentley, but Automobilwoche reported in January of this year that Porsche paid a ""small three-digit million amount" — like $100 million or so — to get out of the deal mandating its vehicles come from the Hanover facility.  So Audi effectively brought Artemis in-house to lead vehicle development, and Car.Software turned into Cariad to get VW.OS and VW.AC, which stands for Automotive Cloud, to market. The first Audi vehicle under Project Artemis was planned to arrive by the end of 2024, a production version of the Grandsphere concept.
Editors' Picks May 2021 | BMW M3, Toyota Camry and some hot Golfs
Thu, Jun 3 2021We awarded Editors’ Picks status to a number of performance cars this month, but a couple more regular sedans won out, too. April saw us recognize four models, but that increases to six for May. As the weather warms up here in Michigan, we tend to get into the sports cars that we missed driving all winter, resulting in a sports car-heavy month of testing. That explains why the list this month is so heavy on sports cars and hot hatches. In case you missed our previous couple Editors' Picks posts, hereÂ’s a quick refresher on whatÂ’s going on here. We rate all the new cars we drive with a 1-10 score. Cars that are exemplary in their respective segments get EditorsÂ’ Pick status. Those are the ones weÂ’d recommend to our friends, family and anybody whoÂ’s curious and asks the question. The list that youÂ’ll find below consists of every car we rated in May that earned the honor of being an EditorsÂ’ Pick. 2021 Toyota Camry 2021 Toyota Camry XSE Hybrid View 22 Photos Quick take: The Toyota Camry retains its place as one of the best midsize sedans you can buy. It comes in a variety of trims and powertrains, from the potent TRD model to the fuel-sipping hybrid. It's an attractive, functional and well-rounded car offering value and function. Score: 8.5 What it competes with: Honda Accord, Hyundai Sonata, Kia K5, Nissan Altima, Mazda6, Subaru Legacy, VW Passat, Chevy Malibu Pros: Highly versatile, efficient hybrid, fun-to-drive sport models Cons: Average infotainment, polarizing exterior, slow base four-cylinder From the editors: Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore — “The Camry is one of the standard bearers in the midsize segment. With many companies abandoning this area, the ones that remain — like Toyota — do it well. Long a bastion of boring design and sleepy driving dynamics, the Camry is now legitimately attractive and offers a range of powertrains. It's a solid entry and along with the Honda Accord, makes the case for midsize sedans to exist." In-depth analysis: 2021 Toyota Camry Review | What's new, pictures, hybrid and AWD fuel economy  2022 Volkswagen GTI The new Volkswagen Golf GTI View 23 Photos Quick take: With engaging dynamics and distinctive styling, the GTI remains the standard for enthusiast hatches.
