Up for sale is a Vintage 1971 Type 3 Volkswagen Squareback (Variant). This is an extremely cool patina'd ride that is fun to drive and be seen in. I The car had been parked for three years and I just got it back on the road. It had been sitting so long because the starter went out and I just put it on the back burner until now. I installed a brand new starter, solenoid, and battery. Before it was parked, I had the carburetors rebuilt, a new clutch put in, an alternator conversion done, and new brakes. It has good tires, the front seats are nice, the rear seat has a rip but is covered up with the Mexican blanket that I think looks cool. The car has old school venetian blinds and a mesh sun visor which are hard to find. I had to have them shipped in from Australia. It also has a cool full length roof rack and a wicker under dash rack. I have replaced all the rear window rubber. The windshield rubber does need to be replaced, but a new one is included with the car. The car has a fresh inspection sticker and registration. The car seems to have no issues other than it does leak some oil like most old Dubs do and the driver's side window is having a hard time going down, but other than that all seems good. The body looks good with a few dings and faded paint but that all ads to it's character. The car looks cool as is and I think should be left as is. People like this car and it gets a lot of attention. I purchased this car in California as that is where I moved from. This is a cool, fun car but it is 40 something years old so it is Sold As-Is. You would be hard pressed to find a cool Vintage car with this much character for what I am asking. Thanks, Steve

I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE MILAGE IS. It was not working when I purchased the car

Volkswagen E-Co-Motion Concept brings electric mobility to the commercial set

Wed, 06 Mar 2013

Volkswagen sees a future where the bulk of the world's freight is moved into city centers by train, then offloaded onto a fleet of smaller, light-duty commercial vehicles for final delivery. Those vehicles could wind up looking something like the company's E-Co-Motion Concept that debuted at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. The EV features a modular underfloor drive unit comprised of a battery, motor and gearbox that can be paired with any number of cab and body configurations to suit a buyer's needs, from a refrigerated box to a standard flat bed.
The E-Co-Motion Concept features a rear-mounted electric motor with 113 horsepower and 199 pound-feet of torque. A standard 20 kWh battery pack provides a driving range of up to 62 miles, while 30 kWh and 40 kWh packs could deliver 93 and 124 miles of travel, respectively. VW builds 250,000th Passat in Chattanooga in just two years

Sun, 26 May 2013

It hasn't been without incident or union organizing drive, but the Volkswagen plant in Chattanooga, TN has built its 250,000 Passat in just a little over two years. The Night Blue Passat TDI with black leather has come just two years and five weeks after the first customer car came off the line on April 18, 2011.
In the last year the plant operated at the 150,000-unit capacity that it was intended for, but the downturn in Passat sales and subsequent worker layoffs mean it will be a challenge to repeat the feat. The plant does have the world's largest solar park, though, and you can't take that away from them.
You'll find the official hand-clapping in the press release below.

VW makes $9.2B offer for rest of truckmaker Scania

Sun, 23 Feb 2014

Volkswagen owns or has controlling interests in three commercial truck operations: besides its own, VW began buying shares in Sweden's Scania in 2000 and now controls 89.2 percent of its shares and 62.6 percent of its capital, then bought into Germany's Man in 2006 - in order to prevent Man from trying to take over Scania - and now owns 75 percent of it. The car company has managed to work out 200 million euros in savings, but believes it can unlock a total of 650 million euros in savings if it takes outright control of Scania and can spread more common parts among the three divisions.
It has proposed a 6.7-billion-euro ($9.2 billion) buyout, but according to a Bloomberg report, Scania's minority investors don't appear inclined to the deal. Although effectively controlled by VW, Scania is an independently-listed Swedish company, and a profitable one at that: in the January-September 2013 period its operating profit was 9.4 percent compared to Man's 0.4 percent. Some of the other shareholders believe that Scania is better off on its own and will not approve the deal, some have asked an auditor to look into the potential conflict of interest between VW and Man, while some are willing to examine the deal and "make an evaluation based on what a long-term owner finds is good," which might not be just "the stock market price plus a few percent." The buyout will only be official assuming VW can reach the 90-percent share threshold that Swedish law mandates for a squeeze-out.
Many of the arguments against boil down to investors believing that Scania's Swedishness and unique offerings are what keep it profitable, and ownership by the German car company will kill that. (Have we heard that somewhere before?) If Volkswagen can buy that additional 0.8-percent share in Scania, perhaps its buyout wrangling with Man will give it an idea of what it's in for: "dozens" of minority investors in the German truckmaker have filed cases against VW, seeking higher prices for their shares. It is likely only to delay the inevitable, though. If VW is really going to compete with Daimler and Volvo in the truck market, it has to get the size, clout and savings to do so.
