Selling my unreal 1967 Squareback. I bought this car 4 years ago sight unseen (due to having the same car in high school 25 years ago) off TheSamba.com and have since invested approximately $22,435,985.75 (or close to that?!) getting it completely road ready, reliable and BEAUTIFUL.

About the car currently:

1967, 12 volt, dual port 1600cc. Engine was rebuilt less than 5,000 miles ago. After the rebuild I added an ISP West OTT exhaust and a restored Bosch 019 distributor from Glenn. I have it tuned up every 6 months even though I drive it maybe twice a month.

It has Granada Red original paint with some patina. Waxing makes it shine shine SHINE, however the paint is 47 years old so the wax does fade quickly :)

All lights, turn signals, interior lights, electrics work correctly (except clock, cmon!)

All new stainless steel chrome trim, new Hella euro flat red rear lenses and off brand clear euro front lenses. Original Hella headlight SB-12's. Original black plate. Custom roof rack (not Pedro) looks great!

All interior was replaced. Front seats bases were repainted gloss black and front and rear seats were re-padded and reupholstered with red smooth vinyl along with all 7 matching door/interior panels. I located complete Z arm rests and had ISP West install everything nice and tight. Carpet is all new charcoal grey with oatmeal binding and includes the rear area and back of rear seat. There is also an ISP West rear cargo rubber mat over the carpet. Rear seat fold down working correctly and all very clean. All four new grey seatbelts. Headliner is correct, clean and white. All gauges were detailed and repainted.

Window rubber and trim were replaced on all windows. Both door regulators and window scrapers were all replaced. Both door seals were replaced. Original 1967 window cranks. Both rear hatch seals and engine lid seal were replaced. Popout windows were rebuilt. Front hood seal replaced. Basically all rubber is new... this car is tight, dry and quiet (comparatively haha).

Car is lowered slightly in front, stock rear height. Wheels are empi 914's with the lip painted gloss black and Wolfsburg center caps. Does not rub at all in front, will rub slightly in back over bumps if you have a full car. Tires are still new. New brakes front and back less than 500 miles ago.

I have a Retrosound stereo mated to a stock Type 3 radio faceplate hooked up to a JBL amp and carpeted Kicker 6x9's in the floor wells. Two ways to plug in your phone/music with an additional memory card slot and USB port. Also have an under dash parcel tray that FITS over the speakers.

The bad:
I have 3 stock wheels that come with it, misplaced the fourth.
Has the late style dash pad, havent found an early one yet.
Speedo cable just broke, easy fix.
Has Empi dual carbs. The shop that was supposed to rebuild my stock carbs 'misplaced' them. They put on these Empi's that I was fully prepared to hate, however they ran fine LOL. Always seemed to be tuned fine and no problems. But you know, Empi.. haha.

Pics are coming, open to possible trades (RV, motorcycle?).

New investor allows Suzuki to fend off VW

Tue, Aug 4 2015

After years of legal wrangling, the long-soured partnership between Volkswagen and Suzuki looks finally to be coming out of arbitration, according to Bloomberg. As a sign of the Japanese brand's improved fortunes, hedge fund Third Point LLC recently bought an undisclosed stake in the company. The investor reported seeing a major opportunity in the successful Maruti Suzuki business in India. As an investment, the only major problem that Third Point found with Suzuki was its legal battle with VW. "The company's greatest asset is its low-cost manufacturing process for vehicles for the emerging market consumer," the fund said in a letter, according to Bloomberg. Third Point reportedly also wants a seat on Suzuki's board, despite being a minority shareholder. The alliance between Suzuki and VW goes back to late 2009. In the deal, the Japanese brand was meant to get access to cutting-edge tech, and the German firm got a helping hand towards better establishing itself in India and Southeast Asia. Things didn't go as planned, though. Less than two years later, Suzuki's boss publicly derided the deal. Eventually, the allegations started going back and forth, and the two have been working out a way to untangle practically ever since. Among the biggest issue has been how to get back the 19.9 percent stake that VW purchased. According to Bloomberg, the arbitration is now technically over. With the divorce nearly final, the two sides are just waiting on a decision on how to split things up. Suzuki may even just buy VW's stake to get the shares back.

Volkswagen reveals updated Sharan minivan for Europe

Sun, Feb 22 2015

Volkswagen's experiment with rebadging Chrysler minivans as the Routan may not have gone so well for the German automaker in North America, but overseas it offers vans of its own. Even aside from the fullsize Crafter and Transporter vans sold by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, the passenger car division offers its own minivans like the Touran and the Sharan. Now it's revealed an updated version of the latter. The VW Sharan was first introduced back in 1995 and entered its second generation in 2009, built in Portugal alongside the Seat Alhambra and offering seating for seven in its five-door form. The new model looks largely the same as the existing one, but benefits from new taillights and a revised interior. But most of the upgrades are found under the skin. There's an array of turbocharged and direct-injected engines that are now up to 15 percent more efficient than those found in the existing model, with two gasoline engines ranging in output from 148 horsepower to 217, and three diesels producing 113, 148 and 181 hp. Along with the updated powertrain options, the revised Sharan also gets a host of new safety and convenience systems, including automatic post-collision braking, Front Assist with City Emergency Braking, Lane Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Park Assist and Blind Spot Monitor. Inside, the infotainment system has been upgraded as well. The updated Sharan arrives hot on the heels of the new Caddy released earlier this month and just in time for the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. Wolfsburg, 18 February 2015 Show premiere of the Sharan in Geneva - Even more technical highlights for the popular Volkswagen MPV - New TSI and TDI engines* are up to 15 per cent more fuel efficient Volkswagen is presenting the technically updated Sharan at the Geneva International Motor Show. Numerous new convenience and assistance systems make the family-friendly MPV one of the most advanced models in its segment. A wide range of infotainment systems also guarantees full connectivity to many smartphones and tablets. At the same time, the fuel economy of the petrol and diesel engines* was improved by up to 15 per cent. The updated Sharan will arrive on the German market this summer; advance sales begin in April. Along with the standard Automatic Post-Collision Braking System, which automatically initiates braking after a collision if the driver is no longer able to intervene, numerous optional assistance systems are available in the updated Sharan as well.

How should Volkswagen deal with its diesel problems?

Mon, Sep 21 2015

The hounds of hell are bearing down on Volkswagen in the wake of allegations of cheating on diesel emissions testing. In just a single day, Volkswagen's stock has dropped 23 percent and the German government has announced that it is going to investigate a far larger number of vehicles over emissions violations. The American storm is quickly becoming a global one. Volkswagen sells over a million diesel vehicles a year and also has more than 13 percent of the automotive market overall – it was the number one automaker in the world up until the scandal. Yet in a matter of hours, Volkswagen has also become a pariah with potential fines and recalls that may be dwarfed by how the alleged lies and deceit change how governments and consumers view the company. Consumers are really going to be the key to the company's survival. It's those consumers who are really going to be the key to the company's survival. Every single one of them now finds themselves with a product that was sold illegally and may not be registered until recall work is done. What's worse is that Volkswagen doesn't yet have a solution for the emissions issue to offer these customers. It should also be noted that this is not the first time Volkswagen has found itself in violation of EPA emission regulations. Volkswagen is in a world of trouble, so what now? As a car dealer and former financial analyst who took several companies public, I believe Volkswagen can and should consider three points of action that would make an enduring difference in the times to come. 1. Offer affected TDI owners a compelling reason to stay with the brand. Recall work and a cup of coffee at the dealership are not going to be enough to placate current owners. Volkswagen should provide compensation for customers at the earliest opportunity and offer some type of inducement that keeps them within the fold. This shouldn't be the industry's version of a Chuck E. Cheese coupon - a small discount on a new vehicle. Volkswagen needs to offer something along the lines of a strong warranty extension of the entire powertrain (not just the emissions system) or some type of valuable feature upgrade for these vehicles so that owners feel that they have been treated fairly. Perhaps a combination of a brand new navigation system, software upgrades for the infotainment components, or some type of basic free WiFi service would be a healthy act of generosity.
