THIS IS A NO RESERVE LISTING.

This is my outstanding, enthusiast-owned 1982 Volkswagen Rabbit Diesel hatchback. I believe this is the nicest original Diesel Rabbit for sale in the country. This is a rare, collectible and hard-to-find car in this condition.

This car belongs in the hands of a collector, VW enthusiast or automotive hobbyist- it is really, REALLY nice.

This car has never seen road salt since it has been new. This is a totally RUST FREE car. This car spent the first part of its life in Dallas, Texas, and then it made its way to the Washington State in the Pacific Northwest (near Portland, OR). Neither Texas nor the Pacific Northwest sees any significant snow, and in neither place do they ever use salt on the roads. For this reason, the body of this car is as perfect and pristine as you will find anywhere in the country.

This car was just shipped to my garage in Ohio in November and it has not been out on the roads, rather it is kept clean and dry in my heated garage.

I have seen many of these Mark I Rabbits over the years (not so many lately), but I have NEVER seen one as clean as this one. I would stack this car up against any Rabbit anywhere, in originality, cleanliness and lack of rust. You cannot believe how superbly clean this car is in every respect- this car is totally amazing.

I bought this car from a gearhead Volkswagen enthusiast who worked as an automotive mechanic. He was a fanatic about his cars, and in addition to this one, he owned a Volkswagen Rabbit pickup (Caddy), a GTI, an R32, an Audi A3 and several other unique Volkswagens. This Rabbit was always garaged, and always cared for impeccably. He is a VW service tech, and he did all the work to the car, whenever it needed anything. Therefore I can say with relative confidence that this car has no mechanical problems- it runs and drives great.

This is the 1.6L Diesel, and it will get 50 MPG or better.  It is a manual transmission, and the car has power brakes and air conditioning.

As I mentioned, the body is outstanding. The paint appears to be all original and it carries a good shine. The body is totally, 100% completely rust-free and pristine. PRISTINE. There are no major cosmetic flaws, and even the steel wheels, the engine bay, the underside, EVERY NOOK AND CRANNY of this car is pristinely clean. The only notable fault is that the paint on the hood and the roof is sun damaged and flaking from the Texas sun.

The interior of the car is excellent. The seats, carpets, upholstery, etc are all outstanding.  These were not durable interiors, and it is remarkable to see an interior like this one.

This car starts, runs and drives great. The engine starts perfectly every time and it runs beautifully.  The glow plugs work well and the car doesn't smoke abnormally even on startup.  The clutch is strong, the transmission shifts well and the steering and suspension are tight.  This is a dependable, reliable, great-driving car.  Even the tires are nearly new.  I would trust this car to drive across the country and back without any worry. The only things you could fault is that there is some minor suspension noise over bumps and some vibration at idle (diesel+worn motor mounts).

This has got to be the nicest condition Diesel Rabbit for sale anywhere, no joke. It is gorgeous.

This car is the result of the combination of a perfectionist owner and a non-corrosive climate.  You will not find a nicer diesel Rabbit for sale anywhere.  Please keep in mind however, that this is a 32 year old unrestored car and as such it has normal wear and tear and issues consistent with its age.  This is not a new car.

This car is kept in my warm heated garage in Willoughby, OH.

You can fly in to Cleveland (CLE) and drive this car home.  You can also have the car shipped, for a shipping quote please call Angels Moving Autos at 530 245 0481.

Volkswagen Group Chairman Ferdinand Piech resigns

Sat, Apr 25 2015

Ferdinand Piech, Volkswagen Group's chairman of the supervisory board, has resigned from the company. His wife, Ursula, has also left her position on the board. A statement put out by VW in German said the move was due to the fact that "mutual trust is no longer present," and the board's deputy chairman, Berthold Huber, will be interim chairman. It's been just two weeks since Ferdinand Piech told Germany's Der Spiegel magazine that he didn't want Group CEO Martin Winterkorn to become the next chairman and that he was keeping the CEO at a distance. That public comment surprised just about everyone, and led to a meeting in Piech's office in Austria. The leadership committee supported Winterkorn, and that was backed up by official, pro-Winterkorn messages from VW labor leaders and the German state of Lower Saxony. After that meeting, Piech agreed to support Winterkorn in public, but it was widely suspected that the fight wasn't over. Now it might be. This is not a changing, but rather an explosion of the guard. Piech lived for VW, and he and his Porsche kin still have a 51-percent stake in the Volkswagen Group. Frankly, we have a feeling that this still isn't over. The official statement from VW in English is below. Statement of the Executive Committee of the Supervisory Board of Volkswagen AG Wolfsburg, 25 April 2015 -- The Executive Committee of the Supervisory Board of Volkswagen AG discussed again today in detail the situation of the Volkswagen Group. 1.: The members of the Executive Committee have unanimously determined that in view of the background of the last weeks the mutual trust necessary for successful cooperation no longer exists. 2.: For this reason Professor Dr. Ferdinand K. Piech has resigned with immediate effect from his position as Chairman of the Supervisory Board and from all his mandates as a Supervisory Board member within the Volkswagen Group. In addition, Ms. Ursula Piech has resigned with immediate effect from all her Supervisory Board mandates within the Volkswagen Group. 3.: The position of Chairman of the Supervisory Board will be temporarily assumed by the Deputy Chairman Berthold Huber. Mr. Berthold Huber will chair both the Supervisory Board meeting on May 4 as well as the Annual General Meeting on May 5, 2015. 4.: Under the chair of Mr. Berthold Huber the representatives of shareholders and employees will in close cooperation determine the candidate for the new Chairman of the Supervisory Board.

Next VW Camper van concept to be electric

Sun, Apr 5 2015

The next-generation Volkswagen Transporter workhorse van (teased above) debuts on April 15, but VW is also working on a more retro-inspired van concept that would be motivated by electric power. Dr. Heinz-Jakob Neusser, Volkswagen development boss on the automotive giant's board of management, described the upcoming Camper concept to Autocar at the New York Auto Show. On the outside, the model would feature a wide D-pillar, boxy design and small front overhang to maintain a classic look. "The distance from the A-pillar to the front end must be very short," he said to Autocar. For power, an electric motor would spin the front axle, and the batteries would be located under the floor. Dr. Neusser was clear that the electric van was just a concept but didn't say when it might debut. He also didn't indicate if the vehicle shared a platform with the new T6 or some over model in the company's lineup. VW has been toying with building a retro-style van for over a decade. In 2001, it showed the Microbus concept, and a decade later there was the Bulli. Neither of them ever actually saw production.

Winterkorn steps down as CEO of Porsche SE

Mon, Oct 19 2015

Martin Winterkorn's departure from all things related to the Volkswagen Group is nearing completion. After having stepped down as chairman of the automaker's executive board nearly a month ago in the wake of the automaker's diesel emissions scandal, he's now leaving the direction of the company's principal shareholder, as well. After VW acquired Porsche (the automaker) several years ago, and in turn was principally acquired by Porsche (the holding company), the latter installed Winterkorn as its chief executive officer in order to cement ties between the parties. He's served as chairman of the executive board (German-speak for CEO) at Porsche Automobil Holding SE ever since, but he's now officially resigned from that position. In his place, the holding company has named Hans Dieter Potsch as its new chief exec. Potsch was also recently named as chairman of the supervisory board of the Volkswagen Group, having served until now as CFO of both VW AG and of Porsche SE. Winterkorn's principal successor at the helm of daily operations at VW is Matthias Muller, formerly CEO of the Porsche auto brand and now CEO of the entire VW group. The development brings Winterkorn's exit closer to completion. However the departing executive still, for the time being, remains at the head of group divisions Audi, Scania, and Truck & Bus GmbH. We don't expect it will be much longer, however, before he formally resigns from those chairmanships as well. October 2015. Porsche Automobil Holding SE, Stuttgart ("Porsche SE"), reached an agreement with Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn that he ceases his function as member and chairman of the executive board of Porsche SE by the end of October 31, 2015. Dr. Wolfgang Porsche, chairman of the supervisory board of Porsche SE, thanked Prof. Dr. Winterkorn for the successful work in previous years: "Prof. Dr. Winterkorn assumed office as chairman of the executive board of Porsche SE in a difficult situation. He played a significant role in transforming our company into a highly professional investment holding. I would like to express my gratitude on behalf of the entire supervisory board." Hans Dieter Potsch, chief financial officer of Porsche SE, was appointed by the supervisory board to succeed Prof. Dr.
