I am selling my 1996 TDI sedan. It has a clear title and no liens or loans. I hate to see it go but I have new project car (mustang) and I need remove one from my collection.

Key Data:

1. Runs and drives awesome -- full power and fun to drive. Miles on Odometer is 90,000 and counting (driven most days a week) but the original odometer was replaced at 86,000 so total miles is around 175,000 which is nothing for 1996 TDI engine. Truly, these things easily go for 500,000+
2. 45+ real world great fuel economy.
3. Timing belt, water pump, pullys, belts, tensioners all replaced 3,000 miles ago ($600 dollar value). I know most people selling TDi's wlll say they did the timing belt but how can you know. In this case it is easy, just look at the waterpump, everything had to come off to get to and while there it was easy to do the timing belt.
4. Fluids replaced with correctly specified VW TDi versions.
5. EGR delete kit installed
6. New Stainless Steel Downpipe (Kerma TDI) + professional installed stainless steel straight pipe and tip installed less than a year ago. Catalytic converter was deleted. This cost $600 to do as I couldn;t do it myself. I had a the muffler shop in Fairport do the work.
7. Brand new less than 1,000 miles ago -- Tiger Paw Tires -- I had an alignment and the tires were spin balanced at the time of install -- This cost $450
8. Rear brakes were replaced today and the front are in great shape.
9. e-brakes work.
10. I replace a Mass Air Flow Sensor -- $300 to fix a check engine light issue. It may come back on because of the EGR delete but it has been several week and nothing so far.
11. All hoses in tact and working. Half shaft on passenger front was replaced.
12. Shifter is clean and smooth
13. New air filter, Diesel Fuel Filter and cabin filter installed and oil change (I will give you the oil and filter and a new plug for the next change)
14. Drivers side window regulator replaced.  All three Motor mounts replaced with new.
14. Body is ok for the age. I am mechanically inclined and not a body guy but I am told the rough edges in the pictures can be fixed fairly easily.
15. I never used the AC but it does NOT blow cold -- probably just needs a recharge but I dont know.
16. New dimmer / headlight / turn signal switch -- this is know problem area and the switch and installation cost $200.
17. Brand new Gel High Amp battery ($250 dollar battery) and really nice pioneer CD / Radio
18. Extra parts including turn signal lenses on both sides, oil drain plug, silicon vacum hoses (correct size), glow plugs (bought them but never needed to install them), fuses as well as the TIMING BELT TOOL KIT (locks, pins, etc which is another $200 value).
19. Just inspected in June and is fully insured...meaning you can actually test drive it.

Known opportunities -- headliner needs to be replaced -- this cost about $150 but it never bothered me. A couple of rust spots, dents and some clear coat peeling could be fixed but again it never bothered me so I didnt fix it.  eBay is making me list the car with a Salvage title, even though I have clear title in NY state. Apparently the car is showing up as a salvage in ME. I am not sure if that is true or not but it is my daily driver it runs awesome, straight & true down the road at 80 mph.

Why Buy this car?

All of the major mechanical maintenance has been done and the fuel economy is awesome....if you drive 50 miles each way to work like I do then this car pays for itself in fuel savings alone in just under a year. Also, now that I have the mechanical in tip top shape, it would be an excellent bio-diesel (biodiesel) or vegetable oil conversion car. I have done this before and it is a great learning experience and just plain fun to do.

Autoweek dubs GMC Canyon, VW GTI its 2015 'Best of the Best'

Wed, Dec 17 2014

For kids around the globe, tis the season for Santa, reindeer and presents. For the automotive industry, the last quarter of each year is reserved for awards, whether they come from Motor Trend, Car and Driver, Automobile, or yes, Autoblog. The latest to get released comes from our friends at Autoweek. The magazine has echoed other outlets, naming a Volkswagen hatchback and a small pickup from General Motors as its Best of the Best. Unlike Motor Trend, which handed out its golden calipers to the Chevrolet Colorado and Volkswagen Golf range, Autoweek doled out its awards to the Colorado's twin, the GMC Canyon, while singling out the hottest version of the Golf, the GTI. "This is the best hot-hatch on the American market – and it may be the best car you can buy for less than $30K," one AW staffer said in the publication's article on the feature. Other staffers praised the absolute value provided by the GTI and the overall fun factor. The Canyon, meanwhile, was saluted for being "the perfect size," not to mention its excellent build quality, feature-rich cabin and overall practicality. "It's truly a truck in the most honest sense of the word," Autoweek wrote of the Canyon. Scroll down for the full press release on the announcement from Autoweek, which includes comments from both Volkswagen and GMC. And then head over and read AW's full feature on the awards. Autoweek names Best of the Best/Car and Truck for 2015 Volkswagen Golf GTI and GMC Canyon signal a strong year for design, performance and value DETROIT, Dec. 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Autoweek named the Volkswagen Golf GTI as its Best of the Best/Car for 2015, beating a group of finalists that includes the Alfa Romeo 4C, Ford Mustang and Mercedes-Benz C-class; and the GMC Canyon as its Best of the Best/Truck for 2015, besting the likes of the Chevrolet Colorado, Lincoln MKC and Porsche Macan. Autoweek evaluates every new or significantly updated model throughout the year and begins to identify the standouts. Performance, economy, fit and finish, design, value, significance to the auto industry and personal taste all combine to define the Best of the Best. Four cars and four trucks make the grade, and Autoweek editors put them through rigorous road-handling tests at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Mich. This is where a vehicle transcends the numbers and shows if design, performance and pure driving passion meld into an Autoweek Best of the Best pick.

VW announces reworked 6.0 W12 TSI engine

Mon, May 11 2015

Nobody makes more engines with a dozen cylinders than the Volkswagen Group. They're W12s, of course, owing to the novel shape of their cylinder banks. Now the German industrial giant has announced a comprehensively reworked version of that engine at the same Vienna Motor Symposium where it presented its new 2.0-liter turbo four. The new W12 retains the same arrangement and the same 6.0-liter displacement, but updates it all with the latest powertrain tech. In place of Audi's FSI direct injection and Bentley's TMPI multi-point injection, the engine has adopted a new TSI system. It's also got a pair of new twin-scroll turbochargers, APS-coated cylinders, a new cooling system, active engine mounts, cylinder deactivation, and a stop/start system. And – crucially for application in the upcoming Bentayga – it has an oil circuit designed for off-road use. The revised package now produces 600 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque. Considerably more than the 567 hp and 516 lb-ft offered in the Bentley Continental GT W12, but less than the GT Speed, which we suspect will get an even more powerful version of this new engine. It's also more powerful than even the top version of Audi and Bentley's 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, to make the W12 a more compelling option. Of course that's just as far as the Continental GT is concerned. The W12 has also found use in the Continental GTC and Flying Spur, as well as the Volkswagen Phaeton and Audi A8, and could find further applications under the Flying B emblem and elsewhere in the future. VW says that in the right application (say, in the production version of the Bentley EXP 10 Speed 6 concept, for example), the new twelve-pot could deliver 0-62 times of under four seconds and a top speed in excess of 186 miles per hour. Volkswagen at the 36th International Vienna Motor Symposium Dr. Heinz-Jakob Neusser: "The car of the future will continue to fascinate people" - CO2 reduction, electromobility and digitalisation are the greatest challenges facing the automotive industry - The future of the internal combustion engine will be characterised by high rpm diesel and high-performance three-cylinder TSI engines - Laser roughening – innovative coating process in large-scale production - New 6.0 W12 TSI with 447 kW (608 PS) – performance and refinement - New generation of EU6 TDI engines for light-duty vehicles Dr.

Scott Pruitt unfiltered: EPA administrator talks climate science, car emissions

Tue, Jul 18 2017

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt gave Reuters a wide-ranging interview on Monday at his office in Washington, discussing issues from climate science to automobile emissions. The following is a full transcript of the interview: REUTERS: You have said the EPA will focus on a "Back to Basics" approach under your leadership. What does this mean for how EPA enforces polluters? You have been critical of the idea of regulation by enforcement. PRUITT: I think what I'm speaking about, there is a consent decree approach to enforcement, where you use judicial proceedings to actually engage in regulation. Enforcement should be about existing regulations that you're actually enforcing against someone who may be violating that, very much in the prosecutorial manner. As attorney general [in Oklahoma], I lived that. There was a grand jury that I led. Being a prosecutor, I understand very much the importance of prioritization, of enforcing the rule of law, of addressing bad actors. That's something we are going to do in a meaningful way across the broad spectrum of cases, whether it is in the office of air or the Superfund area, or otherwise. REUTERS: Do you want to see states play a bigger role in enforcing polluters, even though some have less of a capacity to do so – financially and personnel wise? PRUITT: I think the state's role is really, when you look at this office working with states, it should be how do we assist, how do we engage in compliance and assistance with states. The office [at EPA that deals with enforcement] is called OECA, the Office of Enforcement, Compliance and Assistance, so those are the tools we have in the toolbox to achieve better outcomes. So what we ought to be doing is working proactively with state DEQs [Departments of Environmental Quality] to get their state implementation plans [for federal regulations] timely submitted, provide assistance and technical support, drive a draft of state implementation plans, and then actually work with them on how to achieve through those plans better outcomes and air and water quality. As far as enforcement is concerned, we will actually work with states. We actually did that recently with Colorado. There was an oil and gas company that was emitting some 3,000 tons, is that what it was, it was quite a bit of ... it was an ozone case. In any event, we joined with Colorado in that prosecution. So sometimes states will do it, sometimes we will join with them.
