Better gas mileage than a Prius; crazy fun to drive. That is power of VW's TDI clean diesel technology. Want to march past 50 mpg and 550 miles on a tank of fuel? Torque to zip past cars without shifting gears? A car that doesn't flinch going up hills? This car is for you. Once you drive a clean diesel from VW, you'll never want to go back to a gas vehicle again. Quiet, clean, eco-friendly, it's a conversation starter when heads turn as they see you putting in (bio)diesel at the pump. [Did you know if you fill up with diesel in Minnesota, it's currently B5 or 5% bio? And that moves up this year to B10].

Tech specs:

Excellent condition. Title is clean, ready and lien free.  Car is in excellent condition.

Misc random items:
On the Sports package: Alloy rims and sport tires, Sports mode on the tiptronic transmission (aggressive shifting by not shifting until higher RPM), trim package including small spoiler on the trunk, Gorilla Gear mats (winter and non winter mats; driver; passenger; back seat) including trunk.

Winter storage: Drove very little in the winters (only a hand full of times) as I drive my truck in the snow/winter.  As such, the vehicle has virtually no exposure to snow/salt/ice.  It sits in the garage and hibernates in the winter :-)
Selling: only because my Model S is shipping shortly.
Maintenance: Oil changes are only every 10,000 miles but all maintenance history is included.  It will be due for an oil change in about 1,500 miles.  (Synthetic oil only)

Car Club USA: CleanMPG Northwest Rally

Tue, May 19 2015

Car Club USA heads to Los Angeles for the CleanMPG Northwest Rally, where a group of like-minded hypermiling enthusiasts led by Wayne Gerdes attempts to drive from Los Angeles, CA, to Bend, OR, on one tank of fuel. For this challenge, Wayne tapped some of the most accomplished hypermilers in the world, including Guinness World Record holder Bob Winger and Mike Sefton, "the most fuel efficient driver in all of Canada." It doesn't take long for the competition to get heated. "They're not aggressive enough, and it's not going to save them anything by being soft right now," says Gerdes as the group attempts to navigate the Interstate traffic. "Driving in Los Angeles is a hyper miler's nightmare," says Winger. The trip will challenge both car and driver, while putting the latest fuel-efficient tech to the test. Wayne is piloting the Volkswagen Golf Sportwagen TDI, Sefton drives the Audi A3 TDI, and Winger attempts the trek in a Honda Accord Hybrid. It's diesel versus hybrid tech on this fuel-efficient trip of a lifetime. Each Car Club USA episode features a different car club or event from across the US, where passionate owner communities gather to share automotive experiences and embark on incredible adventures. From Main Street cruises to off-road trails, catch all the latest car club activity on Autoblog. VW Golf R 400 reportedly green-lit (again)

Sun, Apr 26 2015

After speaking to Volkswagen powertrain boss Dr. Heinz-Jakob Neusser at the 2015 New York International Auto Show, we uncovered that the Volkswagen Golf R 400 would be sold in the United States... if it ever made it to production at all, that is. That prerequisite looks like it's about to be fulfilled, as the same good doctor that said the super-powered GTI would come to the US has confirmed to Car that development is currently underway. This follows up on reports from late 2014 that the 400-horsepower car would make production. "We have the Golf more sporty than ever before, since we soon will have the Golf R 400 – we will do this car," Neusser told Car. "We are in fact in development of it right now." That is, we think you'll agree, splendid news. Of course, it also begs the question of when the new car will arrive. According to Car, it'll be just "a few short months," indicating that the Frankfurt Motor Show will likely host the Golf R 400's debut later this year. Whether that proves correct, though, likely won't be clear until later this summer.
