I am looking to sell my 2004 Volkswagen Jetta TDI (Diesel) with 217k miles. It is well "broken in" but this engine is still young for a diesel!
This has been my commuter and road-trip car which got me 70k awesome miles over the past three years - gets 45-50mpg highway! Very good paint and exterior condition, minor interior blemishes and one chip on front bumper from previous parking lot scratch. It has tinted windows (professionally done, no fading and includes the front windshield for glare reduction - this is legal in SD, too). Rides very smooth, handles very well in the snow due to heavy engine and front-wheel drive.
The car has the check-engine light on right now and the engine has been knocking intermittently over the past two or three weeks, right now it is not doing it but I haven't been driving on it, just to play it safe. The CEL remains on and I expect it may likely start doing the knocking again as it has gone away before and come back. Took it to two different mechanics for this issue, the check-engine light codes are for an injector misfire and/or wiring harness, something with the electrical connections between the injector and the engine is the most likely problem after talking to several mechanics. I can't seem to get a straight 100% answer on what the problem is and I have been wanting to upgrade to a larger vehicle anyway, so I am selling this to get cash towards that.
This is the only substantial work the car has ever needed. I went through all the previous paperwork from the last owner (I am the second owner), who also used it as a commuter car, and it has gone through every oil change, belt change, etc., at the appropriate time. The miles are essentially all highway miles!
I love this car but don't want to sink money into any repair that I could just use toward something else anyway.
I am honestly not interested in haggling-style negotiations so please contact me only if you are interested in my asking price. The KBB value for this car in good to very good condition is $4,257 - $4,457 and I believe with everything I have described $4k is a very reasonable asking price. (I am adding $125 to that because that is the eBay fee for a successful listing.)
You can email me through this site or call five 4 0 9 zero 7 8 1 nine six.
Thank you!

Volkswagen Group sales down 15% in pandemic year, but EV sales up 214%
Wed, Jan 13 2021FRANKFURT, Germany — German automaker Volkswagen said its global sales fell 15.2% during 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic but showed significant recovery toward the end of the year. The company more than tripled its sales of battery-only vehicles. Global sales for all of Volkswagen's brands amounted to 9.3 million vehicles. The fourth quarter showed a smaller decline of 5.7% and within that quarter the month of December was still further improved, showing a shortfall of only 3.2% from the same period the year before. Volkswagen said Wednesday that sales fell the most in Western Europe, by 21.6%, while China, the company's largest single market, was down 9.1% Sales of battery-only cars jumped 214% to 231,600 from 73,700 across all the company's brands. The company's electric sales leaders included the Volkswagen ID.3 compact, with 56,500, the Audi E-Tron SUV with 47,300, and the high-end Porsche Taycan with 20,000. Volkswagen said that its sales fell by less than the overall market, meaning it had slightly expanded its market share. “The COVID-19 pandemic made 2020 an extremely challenging year,” said group sales chief Christian Dahlheim. “The Volkswagen Group performed well in this environment and strengthened its market position." Volkswagen Group's brands include Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, SEAT, and Skoda as sell as truck makers MAN and Scania.
Poor headlights cause 40 cars to miss IIHS Top Safety Pick rating
Mon, Aug 6 2018Over the past few months, we've noticed a number of cars and SUVs that have come incredibly close to earning one of the IIHS's highest accolades, the Top Safety Pick rating. They have great crash test scores and solid automatic emergency braking and forward collision warning systems. What trips them up is headlights. That got us wondering, how many vehicles are there that are coming up short because they don't have headlights that meet the organization's criteria for an "Acceptable" or "Good" rating. This is a revision made after 2017, a year in which headlights weren't factored in for this specific award. This is also why why some vehicles, such as the Ford F-150, might have had the award last year, but have lost it for this year. We reached out to someone at IIHS to find out. He responded with the following car models. Depending on how you count, a whopping 40 models crash well enough to receive the rating, but don't get it because their headlights are either "Poor" or "Marginal." We say depending on how you count because the IIHS actual counts truck body styles differently, and the Infiniti Q70 is a special case. Apparently the version of the Q70 that has good headlights doesn't have adequate forward collision prevention technology. And the one that has good forward collision tech doesn't have good enough headlights. We've provided the entire list of vehicles below in alphabetical order. Interestingly, it seems the Volkswagen Group is having the most difficulty providing good headlights with its otherwise safe cars. It had the most models on the list at 9 split between Audi and Volkswagen. GM is next in line with 7 models. It is worth noting again that though these vehicles have subpar headlights and don't quite earn Top Safety Pick awards, that doesn't mean they're unsafe. They all score well enough in crash testing and forward collision prevention that they would get the coveted award if the lights were better.
Audi to keep hiring workers despite VW diesel scandal
Tue, Oct 27 2015Even while Volkswagen contemplates delaying or canceling projects to pay for costs related to the massive diesel emissions scandal, its stablemate Audi is hiring, according to Reuters. Audi certainly isn't immune to the diesel scandal, with around 2.1 million affected vehicles worldwide including 13,000-14,000 in the US, but the scandal so far isn't affecting staffing levels. "We are sticking with plans for strategic growth and are continuing to hire new employees as planned," Audi board member for human resources Thomas Sigi said in a German newspaper, according to Reuters. Sigi even suggested paying a "respectable" bonus to workers next year. Audi has some big projects on the horizon, too. Among them, the company intends to launch a production version of the E-Tron Quattro Concept in 2018, and for performance fans a new TT RS appears to be on the way. The new A4 should be a big contributor to global volume when its worldwide rollout is complete. Rather than allowing the diesel scandal to hurt all of its divisions, the VW Group instead wants to concentrate the fallout (and costs) on the VW brand, according to Reuters. Those expenses could be huge. Volkswagen is budgeting around $7.3 billion just to repair the 11 million emissions-cheating vehicles. Worldwide, maximum estimates put the whole mess at $87 billion.
