THIS HARD TO FIND 98 JETTA TDI IS UP FOR SALE WITH NO RESERVE THE ODOMETER IS IN KILOMETERS WHICH EQUATES TO ABOUT 38,000 MILES. THE CAR IS ALMOST NEVER DRIVEN. OWNED BY AN OLDER MALE THAT CANNOT DRIVE A MANUAL ANY MORE. THE CAR AS THE PICTURES SHOW IT NOT AS CLEAN IF IT WERE PUT THROUGH A CAR WASH. HARD TO FIND A TDI EVEN IN THIS GORGEOUS FOREST GREEN COLOR. THESE CARS ARE THE BEST OF THE TDIs TO OWN BECAUSE THEY ARE REALLY EASY TO REPAIR WHEN NEEDED, PARTS ARE VERY INEXPENSIVE, THEY GET 45-55 MPG EASILY AND THE TRUNK SPACE IS WAY MORE THAN IT APPEARS. THE REAR SEATS FOLD DOWN. THIS CAR WAS NEVER SMOKED IN AND NEVER HAD ANY PETS IN THE CAR. THE CAR RUNS AS YOU WOULD EXPECT. THE TURBO WORKS EXCELLENT. THE CLUTCH IS EXCELLENT. THE STEREO WORKS FINE. THE FRONT POWER WINDOWS AND SUN ROOF WORK THE FRONT WINDOWS WORK THE HEAT AND A/C WORK AS YOU WOULD EXPECT THE CAR DRIVES AS YOU WOULD EXPECT THE ORIGINAL TIRES WERE RECENTLY REPLACED. THEY ARE NEWER MICHELINS WITH HARDLY ANY WEAR ON THEM. OPTIONAL ALLOY WHEELS ARE EXCELLENT. BATTERY WAS RECENTLY REPLACED WITH A OEM VW BATTERY. GLOW PLUGS WORK AS EXPECTED. THE BRAKES FEEL FINE. STEERING AND SUSPENSION ARE GREAT. THE ORIGINAL SPARE TIRE, NEVER USED, TIRE JACK ETC.... ARE IN THE TRUNK THE ONLY THING WRONG WITH THE CAR IS THE REAR WINDOWS DO NOT WORK. I DON'T THINK THEY WERE *EVER* USED AT ALL. COULD BE THE SWITCH? NO NOISE LIKE THE POWER WINDOW MOTORS ARE TRYING TO WORK. THIS JETTA TDI WILL GIVE YOU ANOTHER 300,000 MILES OF RELIABLE SERVICE PROVIDED IT IS MAINTAINED. THIS CAR CAN BE DRIVEN AS IT SITS ANYWHERE WITH NO CONCERNS. VEHICLE IS LOCATED IN CENTRAL CONNECTICUT. THIS JETTA TDI WILL BE SOLD ON EBAY WITH *NO RESERVE*. IF YOU'RE THE LAST BIDDER, YOU WON THE CAR! I WILL GLADLY MEET THE BUYER WITHIN A REASONABLE DISTANCE TO ASSIST THE SALE. YOU CAN FLY IN, TAKE A TRAIN OR BUS. I WILL GLADLY WORK WITH YOUR TRANSPORTER TO MAKE IT EASIER FOR HIM TO GET THE VEHICLE IF THAT IS YOUR CHOICE. I WANT TO MAKE THIS AN EASY TRANSACTION FOR BOTH OF US. VW to relax ambitious US sales targets?
Fri, 16 May 2014The Volkswagen brand sold 407,704 cars last year, a 6.95-percent decline compared to 2012, and it's down a further 8.36 percent through the end of April 2014 compared to this time last year. In order to to put the sales football between its Strategy 2018 goal posts, the brand would need to add 100,000 more sales every year to achieve the lofty 800,000-unit target. Coming to grips with how unreasonable that is, VW US CEO Michael Horn has said, "For now, we have to have realistic targets."
The reasons for the brand's slow-down are imprecise, but lots of folks are throwing lots of reasons around. Last November, VW Group Chairman Ferdinand Piech told Bloomberg, "We understand Europe, we understand China and we understand Brazil, [but] we only understand the US to a certain degree so far." Analysts say the brand hasn't had midsize and compact SUV offerings, especially an overdue retail version of the CrossBlue, and the ones it does have are priced too high for their segments. It "didn't introduce enough new engines, or alternative technologies or model variants" for the Passat and Jetta. It devoted so many resources to China that the US market suffered. It was being outspent two-to-one on advertising by competitors. Its J.D. Power dependability ratings aren't high enough to overcome its past. It "has never really taken the US customer seriously." And so on.
There's still no official admission of defeat concerning the target, but reading between the lines there are some VW execs that appear to accept it won't happen short of some deus ex machina. Still,
Volkswagen unveils sportier Passat Performance Concept ahead of Detroit debut
Fri, 11 Jan 2013Ahead of its official unveiling at next week's Detroit Auto Show, Volkswagen has released some preliminary details and images of its Passat Performance Concept - a car that, as its name suggests, adds a little more spice to the automaker's midsize sedan formula. VW makes no mention of any production intent for this road-ready-looking sedan, simply stating that the Performance Concept is a way to "explore this practical four-door's sportier side."
It certainly doesn't look too sporty, the only visual upgrades being larger 19-inch wheels, dual exhaust, bi-xenon headlamps with VW's Advanced Front Lighting system, LED taillmaps and carbon-look mirror caps. Inside, there are carbon interior accents and two-tone leather upholstery. But no matter, the real upgrades for this mightier Passat are found below the sheetmetal.
Powering the Performance Concept is a 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, churning out 250 horsepower and sending its grunt to the ground via a six-speed automatic transmission. For reference, that's 80 more horsepower than the Passat's base 2.5-liter inline-five, but 20 horsepower less than the potent 3.6-liter VR6. As for other performance upgrades, Volkswagen has fitted the car with a lowered sport suspension and revamped electronic steering, which should indeed add a bit more dynamic feedback to the already nice-driving sedan.
Editors' Picks August 2021 | Honda Civic, Mercedes S-Class and more
Thu, Sep 9 2021This month of Editors' Picks saw us award the honor to a couple of redesigned stalwarts like the Honda Civic and Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Plus, a new crossover that splits the difference between the compact and subcompact class takes home the prize. On top of this, we'll introduce you to a new term: midcompact. We'll be using this to describe those in-between crossovers that are a tad too small to be considered compact, but too large to neatly fit into the subcompact class. For a few examples of these "midcompact" cars, we'll point you to the Ford Bronco Sport, Kia Seltos and VW Seltos. In case you missed our previous Editors' Picks posts, here’s a quick refresher on whatÂ’s going on here. We rate all the new cars we drive with a 1-10 score. Cars that are exemplary in their respective segments get EditorsÂ’ Pick status. Those are the ones weÂ’d recommend to our friends, family and anybody whoÂ’s curious and asks the question. The list that youÂ’ll find below consists of every car we rated in August that earned an EditorsÂ’ Pick. 2021 Genesis G70 2022 Genesis G70 View 26 Photos Quick take: Genesis hits all the right buttons with its G70. It's attractive, fun to drive and can be had for a fair price. Enthusiasts should give it a shot before taking home one of its German competitors. Score: 8 What it competes with: Alfa Romeo Giulia, Lexus IS, Acura TLX, Infiniti Q50, Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Cadillac CT4, Volvo S60 Pros: Sharp handler, stunning exterior looks, strong engines Cons: Average interior, loses manual option, small backseat and trunk From the editors: News Editor Joel Stocksdale — "I was already a big fan of the Genesis G70. It has brilliant handling, and the twin-turbo V6 is a beast. It's even a bargain against the competition. And Genesis just made it look a lot better. I wish they'd done a bit more to update the interior, but it's still not a bad cabin. Besides, you won't think too much about it when you're hustling down a fun back road." Features Editor James Riswick — "Yes, it is small, but in a sport sedan segment where "sport" means increasingly less, the G70 still delivers (in part because of that smallness).
