Hi, this listing is for a used 1997 jetta with 162,423 miles that needs work but runs and drives. I bought it last year on ebay needing work and most of it has been done, there are some minor things that need to be done but you can drive it while you fix it. The only reason I'm selling it is because my son gave me his car this week after he got a newer one from the dealer, otherwise Id still be driving this everyday. White exterior, tan interior with automatic transmission and manual locks/windows. There is a moonroof but it isn't working, didn't get to that, might be a fuse. When I got the car it needed a door lock actuator, muffler and brake work which I did. I put in a drivers side door lock actuator, door closes good. Installed a middle muffler and then on the right rear- brake shoes, hardware, brake cylinder and inner and outer wheel bearings. I have receipts for all that I did from autozone, the rest I got on ebay. Ive driven it every day and was just at inspection where it needed some small things still to pass. Everything was good except for the right front strut mount, washer fluid hose partially missing and license plate lights also. I bought the license plate light holders and put those in with new bulbs already. You need to still do the following: bleed the brakes, work but kind of light. Install the right front strut mount and get a hose for the washer fluid. There is some antifreeze that started to leak lately and temp sometimes goes up, gauges go weird at times so might be a speed sensor. Ive had to refill the antifreeze often lately so I just put a new thermostat in thinking it was that but that's not the issue. I was going to sell this for parts but its a waste being that I repaired a lot and its road worthy, you just need a weekend to finish the rest. Transmission shifts late sometimes but i think it just needs fluid, this car doesn't have a transmission fluid dipstick and its filled from under the car. Jiffy lube couldnt get the cap off In fear of breaking the cap but if you add fluid they said the shifting with smooth out on its own. Check my feedback and bid with confidence, I don't sell junk or misrepresent my items. Any questions please email me before you bid. Yes you can drive it home, it starts everytime but might want to tow if youre uncomfortable with antifreeze leak. It only leaks from the coolant tank that holds the extra fluid, nowhere else. I will give you the repair manual, extra key blank and a clean title. For parts I have the brake hardware for the left rear new, strut mount new and the door for the gas. Gas well has rust but they sell Bondo with a metal blend so it will fill that with no problem. There is touch up paint and scratches all over the car, dents all around so please expect wear. The previous owner didn't have a gas cover so I ordered one, add some bondo and then put two screws, not hard. Im only listing this once whole, if it doesn't sell I will part it out. The whole car has dents and dings around, expect it for the age and are in the pictures. All 4 tires are almost new with plenty of tread, radio has a cd player made by DUAL and has a port for usb or to play music through it with your phone or ipod. I plug my phone in and stream youtube through the radio but drivers door speaker not sound, rugs are a little dirty, all lights work.Good luck! Please keep in mind that this 97, is used and needs work, expect wear and tear, just put new hub caps on.

Brand new cars are being sold with defective Takata airbags
Wed, Jun 1 2016If you just bought a 2016 Audi TT, 2017 Audi R8, 2016–17 Mitsubishi i-MiEV, or 2016 Volkswagen CC, we have some unsettling news for you. A report provided to a US Senate committee that oversees the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and reported on by Automotive News claims these vehicles were sold with defective Takata airbags. And it gets worse. Toyota and FCA are called out in the report for continuing to build vehicles that will need to be recalled down the line for the same issue. That's not all. The report also states that of the airbags that have been replaced already in the Takata recall campaign, 2.1 million will need to eventually be replaced again. They don't have the drying agent that prevents the degradation of the ammonium nitrate, which can lead to explosions that can destroy the airbag housing and propel metal fragments at occupants. So these airbags are out there already. We're not done yet. There's also a stockpile of about 580,000 airbags waiting to be installed in cars coming in to have their defective airbags replaced. These 580k airbags also don't have the drying agent. They'll need to be replaced down the road, too. A new vehicle with a defective Takata airbag should be safe to drive, but that margin of safety decreases with time. If all this has you spinning around in a frustrated, agitated mess, there's a silver lining that is better than it sounds. So take a breath, run your fingers through your hair, and read on. Our best evidence right now demonstrates that defective Takata airbags – those without the drying agent that prevents humidity from degrading the ammonium nitrate propellant – aren't dangerous yet. It takes a long period of time combined with high humidity for them to reach the point where they can rupture their housing and cause serious injury. It's a matter of years, not days. So a new vehicle with a defective Takata airbag should be safe to drive, but that margin of safety decreases with time – and six years seems to be about as early as the degradation happens in the worst possible scenario. All this is small comfort for the millions of people who just realized their brand-new car has a time bomb installed in the wheel or dashboard, or the owners who waited patiently to have their airbags replaced only to discover that the new airbag is probably defective in the same way (although newer and safer!) as the old one.
VW debuts Get Happy Super Bowl ad
Mon, 28 Jan 2013
Brace yourself for another tidal wave of Super Bowl commercials. Volkswagen has released its spot for this year's big game. Set to air during the second quarter, the Get Happy spot follows one jubilant office worker as he makes his way through the day, spreading joy wherever he goes. The source of his happiness? A Volkswagen Beetle, of course. Now, if you're wondering why a gaggle of white guys are running around on your screen with Jamaican accents, it will help to know the spot is part of a larger Get Happy campaign featuring Jimmy Cliff.
The first ad in the series featured the artist singing his rendition of "C'Mon, Get Happy," complete with a little help from some notorious unhappy YouTube stars. You can take a look at the new ad before it airs below, along with the complete press release for a little more background.
The UK votes for Brexit and it will impact automakers
Fri, Jun 24 2016It's the first morning after the United Kingdom voted for what's become known as Brexit – that is, to leave the European Union and its tariff-free internal market. Now begins a two-year process in which the UK will have to negotiate with the rest of the EU trading bloc, which is its largest export market, about many things. One of them may be tariffs, and that could severely impact any automaker that builds cars in the UK. This doesn't just mean companies that you think of as British, like Mini and Jaguar. Both of those automakers are owned by foreign companies, incidentally. Mini and Rolls-Royce are owned by BMW, Jaguar and Land Rover by Tata Motors of India, and Bentley by the VW Group. Many other automakers produce cars in the UK for sale within that country and also export to the EU. Tariffs could damage the profits of each of these companies, and perhaps cause them to shift manufacturing out of the UK, significantly damaging the country's resurgent manufacturing industry. Autonews Europe dug up some interesting numbers on that last point. Nissan, the country's second-largest auto producer, builds 475k or so cars in the UK but the vast majority are sent abroad. Toyota built 190k cars last year in Britain, of which 75 percent went to the EU and just 10 percent were sold in the country. Investors are skittish at the news. The value of the pound sterling has plummeted by 8 percent as of this writing, at one point yesterday reaching levels not seen since 1985. Shares at Tata Motors, which counts Jaguar and Land Rover as bright jewels in its portfolio, were off by nearly 12 percent according to Autonews Europe. So what happens next? No one's terribly sure, although the feeling seems to be that the jilted EU will impost tariffs of up to 10 percent on UK exports. It's likely that the UK will reciprocate, and thus it'll be more expensive to buy a European-made car in the UK. Both situations will likely negatively affect the country, as both production of new cars and sales to UK consumers will both fall. Evercore Automotive Research figures the combined damage will be roughly $9b in lost profits to automakers, and an as-of-yet unquantified impact on auto production jobs. Perhaps the EU's leaders in Brussels will be in a better mood in two years, and the process won't devolve into a trade war. In the immediate wake of the Brexit vote, though, the mood is grim, the EU leadership is angry, and investors are spooked.
