Hello and welcome to my auction. Here we have a Volkswagen Golf GTI GLX in Satin Silver Metallic with Black Leather Interior. This is a true German built machine. Most of the MK4 models are produced in Brazil, even the special edition models. The color of this car is awesome! The pearl in the paint looks gold during the day and blue during the night. My wife is the second owner of this vehicle and it has been very well maintained. All of the paint is 100% original. Oil changes every 3,000 miles with Casrtol Synthetic. Clutch and timing chain was done at 120,000 by the dealership and the A/C compressor was replaced about 2 years ago with an brand new Sanden unit (same as OEM). I replaced the coil pack about 3 years ago with a brand new OEM part. The interior has heated seats, OEM 6 Disc CD changer, OEM Monster Mats, OEM brushed aluminum trim package out of a 337 Edition GTI, and an OEM Euro headlght switch to eliminate daytime running lights. I replaced the headliner less than a year ago and made it black instead of the grey it was. The installer destroyed the sunroof slide panel handle and I am currently hunting a replacement down. I purchased and installed glass lenses for the headlights to keep them from fogging up, and a stubby antenna. The exterior is kept up by a professional detailer and was treated with GTechniq Crystal Lacquer and maintained with the GTechniq Silo Seal every few months. The pictured OEM VW roof rack with two bike holders is included with purchase (the rear bars are missing the side covers). I purchased Longbeach 17" wheels a few years back and had them repainted, (its not the best job but they look good). The 17"s are wrapped in Sumitomo HTR ZIII 225/45 ZR17 tiles with about 50% tread left on all 4 tires. I have the original wheels for this car and they are wrapped with Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S 205/55 R16 tires with 50% tread on two tires and 75% tread on the other two. These too will be included with purchase. Raceland Ultimo adjustible coilovers have been recently installed less than 800 miles ago and I still have the OEM shocks and these will be included with purchase. It is at a perfect height in my opinion, the tires rub only on big bumps. I also have a bunch of other parts I will include if the car is bought at my asking price. Euro spec front bumpr rub strip, 337 edition front bumper lower lip(painted Reflex Silver), badgeless grille (painted Reflex Silver) extra headlight buckets, air filters, oil filters, ect... Now on with the bad, The ABS warning light and the air bag warning light comes on when you start the car but it is probably just sensors. The auto dim rear view mirror has never worked and is discolored. There are small dents and chips around the front of the car, the worst being a 2" dent on the hood from a shopping cart. I ran into the back of someone at about 5 mph and there are some spider cracks in the paint of the bumper and a chunk of plastic is missing from the outer grille (just below the Badge). The grille has some clear coat flaking off but this is the only part of the car with this issue. One of the supports for the glove box is broken and it flops around (common problem with these). The center armrest console has broken off but is still included. We are only selling this car because we bought a 4 door Golf as our primary driver because we just recently had out first child and needed those extra doors. This car has been loved since purchase and I'm sad to see it go but we just don't use it enough to justify keeping it and continue paying insurance premiums on it. I have lots of pictures and can text them to you right away. If you have any questions or would like to see more pictures please contact me with your phone number and I will get back to you right away.

Recharge Wrap-up: VW consumption down 24%, BAIC opens EV R&D in CA

Mon, Sep 14 2015

The Biofuel Infrastructure Partnership will provide grant funding to 21 states to help improve consumers' access to renewable fuels. Tom Vilsack, Secretary of the US Department of Agriculture announced the funding, which will help retailers purchase and install the equipment necessary to dispense fuels like E85 and other higher ethanol blends. Groups such as the American Coalition for Ethanol, Growth Energy, Prime the Pump, and the Renewable Fuels Association came forward to applaud the announcement. "This assistance in building out retail infrastructure is not only good for the American farmer but it is also great for the American motorist who will now have more opportunities to buy higher octane fuel at a lower cost," says Prime the Pump Chairman Ray Defenbaugh. Read more from Domestic Fuel. Volkswagen has reduced resource consumption of its vehicle production by 24.3 percent since 2011. As part of its "Think Blue. Factory." program, the automaker has implemented a series of environmental efforts (a number VW puts at 3,400 measures) at its factories worldwide. Examples include optimizing shut-down schedules, reducing solvent emissions, energy recovery programs, and recycling paper, plastic, and water. Read more at Green Car Congress. BAIC has opened an electric vehicle research and development center in California's Silicon Valley. The Chinese automaker's first overseas R&D facility, it opened under BAIC's subsidiary, Beijing Electric Vehicle Co. (BJEV), and is affiliated with the Beijing New Engineering Research Institute. The center will be responsible for the research and development of three to four new models per year, as BJEV intends to bring a complete lineup of EVs to market. BJEV also plans to open an R&D center in Europe. Read more at Green Car Congress or from BAIC. Co-CEO of Zap and CEO of Jonway Autos, Wang "Alex" Gang is providing $10 million in funding to the two companies in order to meet electric minivan orders. Zap/Jonway have taken down payments from Dongfeng to supply 11,000 of the EVs by the Chinese New Year (February 8) of 2016. Volkswagen E-Co-Motion Concept brings electric mobility to the commercial set

Wed, 06 Mar 2013

Volkswagen sees a future where the bulk of the world's freight is moved into city centers by train, then offloaded onto a fleet of smaller, light-duty commercial vehicles for final delivery. Those vehicles could wind up looking something like the company's E-Co-Motion Concept that debuted at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. The EV features a modular underfloor drive unit comprised of a battery, motor and gearbox that can be paired with any number of cab and body configurations to suit a buyer's needs, from a refrigerated box to a standard flat bed.
The E-Co-Motion Concept features a rear-mounted electric motor with 113 horsepower and 199 pound-feet of torque. A standard 20 kWh battery pack provides a driving range of up to 62 miles, while 30 kWh and 40 kWh packs could deliver 93 and 124 miles of travel, respectively. Check out the press release below for more information.

VW Jetta TDI dyno shows HP loss trying to recreate cheat mode

Sun, Oct 4 2015

Volkswagen is working on a fix for diesel-engined vehicles that are out of compliance with emissions regulations in the US and other countries. We're told that engineers will be presenting a solution internally sometime this month, but that doesn't mean we'll actually see it in the wild this month. One big question we have about the coming fix is, will it affect the car's performance? That question relates to another we have about the engine as it is: How much performance would the 2.0-liter diesel lose right now if it were turned down to pass US emissions? The Fast Lane Car tried to sketch some answers by going to a shop in Denver, Colorado to run a 2011 Jetta TDI with a six-speed DSG transmission on an all-wheel-drive dyno. The thinking was that if you ran all four wheels the car would think it was on the road, whereas if you ran only two the car might think it's being tested. We'll get straight to the numbers: the stock sedan is quoted at 140 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque. When run with all four wheels turning it produced an uncorrected 114 hp and 214 lb-ft at the wheels. When run with just two wheels in motion the Jetta got 113 hp and 188 lb-ft at the wheels. Reading the graph, we're told that power differences between the two runs were as much as 15 hp and 32 lb-ft. You'll need to take some salt with these numbers, though, because the dyno and test protocol in the video are nothing like those used by the EPA. The shop attempts to trick the Jetta into 'emissions testing mode' by using the front wheels only for the two-wheel-drive run, but we have a feeling the software code at issue is far more sophisticated than that, since the ICCT, UVA, the EPA, and CARB investigated the situation for more than a year and couldn't figure out. Also, the technician adjusts for being a mile above sea level with a correction factor of 1.2 applied to horsepower and torque, which inflates the disparity in the final power differences over the two runs. Go to YouTube and read the lengthy comments on the video left by Andrew Price for a more thorough dissection of what could explain TFL's disparities. You can watch the video above, and feel free to try and dissect the results yourselves in the comments below. Related Video:
