2012 Vw Golf R, Apr Tuned Stage Ii+ on 2040-cars
Atlanta, Georgia, United States
2012
Volkswagen Golf R, APR Tuned stage 2+ You have to be a VW enthusiast to
appreciate this car. This could be
the most fun car to drive at an affordable price. I purchased this car
new and drove it like a sweet old lady until I had 1,000 miles on the clock,
then the upgrades started. First I had it tuned to APR stage I and unleashed
the horses which took the HP from 250 to 300. Unfortunately for my wallet this
only gave me a thirst for more. So a new APR turbo back exhaust, a high
pressure fuel pump, a VWR cold air intake and a ARP re-flash to stage II+
boosted this screaming howling hatchback to a peak horsepower of 362hp and 370
ft-lbs of torque. The stock clutch that linked this much power to the 6 speed
manual transmission could not take the extra hp without slipping and required a
further upgrade to the South Bend
DXD KFSI HD OFE endurance clutch and flywheel package. The stock wheels
also whilst adequate did not quite look the part with the steel grey paint job
so VWR 18” X 8” ET45 gunmetal grey wheels were also required to complete the
package. The total selling price of this car new without taxes and fees was
$35,817 in April 2012. In addition the total cost for the upgrades: $8,000
installed, for a total investment of $43,817. This car is now offered for sale complete
with the stock parts (including the stock aluminium wheels if you need them for
winter tires) or if a buyer wants I will keep all these parts for sale
separately and reduce the final sale price of the car by $3,000. If you are still reading you are probably
aware of the other specifications for the R as it only comes fully loaded,
however to reassure you let me give you the additional details anyway; This one
is a 2 door hatchback, 4 wheel drive with 6 speed manual transmission. Sun
roof, leather R seats and metal finish pedals. I bought this car new in May
2012. It is in immaculate condition. This car has never been in an accident or
had any kind of body repair. I have only used the car on the road; it has never
been on a track or raced in anyway. All the upgrades were carried out by an APR
dealer here in Atlanta, I have the invoices and the APR certificate. All
maintenance has been carried out on time. All records and documents in
hand. Non-smoker, no pets or kids
have ever been in this car. Just
under 12,000 miles on the clock. Full Warranty and Carefree maintenance package
until May 2015 or 36,000 miles. Power train warranty until May 2017 or 60,000
miles. Premium 8 RCD 510 sound with satellite radio (not subscribed) and
media/i phone/i touch connectivity but you don’t need i tunes music, just
listen to the car. Mobile phone
package with blue tooth. I have
both sets of keys. Don’t even ask about the MPG because if you care you don’t
want this car, but it’s better than a Corvette or a Mustang. Clear title in
hand. This is a private sale. Professional Inspection is welcome. Buyer
is responsible for collection. |

The not-Subaru crossover wagon | 2017 Volkswagen Alltrack First Drive
Fri, Sep 16 2016Funnily enough, in light of dieselgate, Volkswagen is one of the few brands (along with Volvo and Subaru) to preserve the notion that you don't need a fuel-sucking SUV to meet your life-carrying needs. And, yes, VW's history of addressing off-road desires with all-wheel-drive dates to the mid-1980s with the Quantum Syncro (a.k.a. Passat) and Golf Country – the latter, sadly, never came stateside. The latest offering toward this effort is the 2017 Volkswagen Alltrack. What's an Alltrack? It's a slightly lifted, cladded, and butched-out version of the Golf Sportwagen (yes, formerly known as a Jetta). Not to steal Alltrack's thunder, but starting in 2017 you can also get the standard Sportwagen with 4Motion AWD, which is basically the same running gear for less money. The Alltrack starts at $26,950; the 4Motion Sportwagen starts at $24,930, both with the dual-clutch automatic available at launch. Any discussion of tall wagons brings Subaru immediately to mind, both with the Outback and the Impreza-based Crosstrek. The Volkswagen Alltrack sits between the two in size at 180.2 inches long – 5 more than the Crosstrek and 9.4 inches shorter than the Outback. The 2017 Subaru Outback starts at $25,645, and VW's comparisons focus on the Outback, which is understandable given the similar starting price. A bare-bones Crosstrek starts at $22,245, but quickly gets into Golf price overlap. The Alltrack and the 4Motion Golf Sportwagen are superior daily drivers to the Subaru, whether you're doing an emergency lane change or just trying to merge onto the interstate. Meanwhile, the Crosstrek doesn't have the refinement of the VW. Can we fault Subaru though? It's set a sales record every year in a row since 2010 and is looking at about triple the sales volume of VW's Golf for 2016. So we'll stick to telling you what we think of the Alltrack and let the dealers fight for your dollars. First thing's first. Yes, you can have the Golf Sportwagen and even the Alltrack with a manual six-speed gearbox. The seven-speed DSG automatic is very good, but it's worth noting that any manual gearbox is a rarity these days, especially when we're not talking about a two-seat sports car. You will have to wait until early 2017 for that option, but it also saves you $1,100 off both models. Second, the Alltrack and 4Motion Sportwagens get identical engines. Whether manual or DSG, VW's EA888 turbocharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder is under the hood.
A VW will help you keep control of your terrible children, apparently
Wed, Apr 29 2015Not all kids are angels, and in fact some of them can be destructive little monsters at the worst of times. Parents know it, too. Volkswagen is playing on adults' fear of being publicly embarrassed by their progeny in an extremely clever ad, touting the long-distance driving range of the Passat TDI. Titled Mom, the spot is certainly one of the more creative sales pitches ever devised for a vehicle's fuel economy. The ad allows three little boys to go absolutely wild in a convenience store as a horrified cashier watches. Although, the commercial certainly raises the question: what mom would actually let her kids run around unattended while pumping gas?
Carmakers ask Trump to revisit fuel efficiency rules
Mon, Feb 13 2017Car companies operating in the US are required to meet stringent fuel efficiency standards (a fleet average of 54.5MPG) through 2025, but they're hoping to loosen things now that President Trump is in town. Leaders from Fiat Chrysler, Ford, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Nissan, Toyota and VW have sent a letter to Trump asking him to rethink the Obama administration's choice to lock in efficiency guidelines for the next several years. The car makers want to revisit the midterm review for the 2025 commitment in hopes of loosening the demands. They claim that the tougher requirements raise costs, don't match public buying habits and will supposedly put "as many a million" jobs up in the air. The Trump administration hasn't specifically responded to the letter, although Environmental Protection Agency nominee Scott Pruitt had said he would return to the Obama-era decision. The automakers' argument doesn't entirely hold up. While the EPA did estimate that the US would fall short of efficiency goals due to a shift toward SUVs and trucks, the job claims are questionable. Why would making more fuel efficient vehicles necessarily cost jobs instead of pushing companies to do better? As it is, even a successful attempt to loosen guidelines may only have a limited effect. All of the brands mentioned here are pushing for greater mainstream adoption of electric vehicles within the next few years -- they may meet the Obama administration's expectations just by shifting more drivers away from gas power.
