2007 Volkswagen Gti Thunderbunny/apr Tuned/stoptech Brakes/coil-over Suspension on 2040-cars
Kansas City, Missouri, United States
I'm the 2nd owner since the car had 25,500 miles. Adult owned for almost 4 years and never smoked in. Volkswagen of America just replaced the DSG with a new one at 79,500 miles because of a VW dealership's carelessness during a transmission service. A new DSG is about $6,000. Car is tuned with APR stage 1 (stock mode, 91 octane, 93 octane and 100 octane). Car has all new Goodridge SS brake lines with StopTech slotted rotors and StopTech street pads with TyrolSport brass bushing brake caliper stiffening kit, all changed out at 79k. Solo-werks coilovers with front 034 Density strut mounts installed at 82k. Car has 17" Audi RS replica wheels (perfect condition) with all-season Cooper RS3-A tires with approximately 3,500 miles that have a 40,000 mile manufacturer warranty. These wheels also have TPMS installed. All black textured trim has been changed to the rare OEM VW Thunderbunny sideskirts and Thunderbunny rear bumper with LED license plate lights. Front lip is a smoothed OEM candy white Jetta lip. Transformation started when someone rear ended me at about 5mph. I opted for the bumper, then changed the lip when the front bumper was replaced after shredded tire road debris (paperwork available). Some rub marks on the front passenger side fender wheel well (pictures available). Also replaced were cam follower (replaced at 75k) and most recently revised diverter valve and valve cover. Interior cloth is in great shape. Car was already tinted when I purchased it, doors are around 35% and the rear is just about as dark as it gets. The car was already wired for an amp and subwoofer. In addition, the doors and floor of the rear hatch have been layered with sound deadening mat. Sunroof works perfectly, no problems. Car has been waxed twice yearly during my 4 year ownership and the HID headlight is clear as new and no hazing. Synthetic oil changes every 5,000 miles and not the recommended 10k by VW. All recalls have been performed and I just replaced the air filter and an oil change. DSG service occurs every 40k and won't be needed until the car reaches 120,000 miles. You will not find another DSG GTI on eBay with 7,000 miles! My entire reason for selling is because I'm moving to an all-year-round summer climate and I'm wanting to get back into a roadster. This car has been great daily driver and a blast to drive. Very quick with the tune, better handling with new suspension and brakes way better than the stock rotors and pads. I've had quite a bit of Vag-com work done. The two key fobs can control driver and passenger side windows (up and down) in addition to closing the sunroof. The rear hatch release button on the key fobs has been activated that was not an option in the U.S. The HID Xenon headlights have been turned off as daytime running lights and the fog lights have been turned on as daytime running lights. Also, had the seat belt chime turned off in case you don't like wearing a seat belt (which I don't recommend). I'm in no way associated with APR but check out their website for information on the tune. The GTI's stock numbers are 200 HP/ 207 TQ. APR's tune raises horsepower to 252 and torque to 303 on 93 octane gasoline.
In my auction's last photo I have my OEM VW roof bars with two OEM VW barracuda racks, NOT available in my asking price. Also for sale for $400 and before taxes they are $680 new from VW. This is a car that has had all normal wear parts replaced with... new springs/struts ($720 before labor), new brake pads/rotors and lines and fluid ($750 before labor), new all-season tires ($550 before install) and a new transmission $6,000. $250 deposit is non-refundable to attract serious buyers. I live in Kansas City but from St. Louis which is where my loan is located. The car can be picked up in either city once payment clears. Shoot me an offer if you'd like the all season wheels, the summers or both. Please feel free to ask me any questions. Thanks! |

Jay Leno brings a rotary-powered VW Beetle to the garage
Mon, Aug 1 2016It takes something really unique or inventive to pique Jay Leno's interest. His show, Jay Leno's Garage, has featured everything from concours-worthy classics to completely custom, home-built machinery. How do you get Leno to feature one of more than 20 million Beetles on his program? Stick a turbocharged rotary engine under the hood. The Beetle's owner, Mario Markakis, swapped the car's stock flat four-cylinder for the Wankel engine from a 1990 Mazda RX-7 Series 5 Turbo. The engine's 250 horsepower are fed through a reinforced version of the Beetle's stock four-speed transmission. That's about five times the original engine's output. It works well, with the car putting down some impressive times at the drag strip. Markakis did most of the work to the Beetle in his garage. In addition to the engine swap, he's modified the car's brakes, suspension, and interior. Check out the video to hear all the details of this custom Wankel-powered Volkswagen. VW boss confirms Subaru-aping Golf Alltrack for US
Fri, Nov 21 2014Subaru needs to watch out, because the Japanese brand with a utilitarian image has a big bull's eye on its back. Not only is Acura considering going 100-percent all-wheel drive in a bid to mimic the successful automaker, Volkswagen has just confirmed that the Golf Alltrack is coming to the US as another competitor for Subaru's popular Outback crossover. Volkswagen Group of America CEO Michael Horn has confirmed the addition of the higher-riding, all-wheel drive version of the Golf SportWagen to Automotive News, indicating that the model will arrive in the US in 2016. "That's what our dealers, our customers, are asking us for," he said to the industry publication. The Golf Alltrack, which debuted at the Paris Motor Show in early October, has an extra 0.75 inches of ride height and protective black cladding all the way around. Its biggest mechanical differentiator from other Golfs is its Haldex all-wheel drive system, a setup that can completely unhook from the rear axle when not needed to save fuel. In Europe, the Alltrack is available with a turbocharged 1.8-liter with 178 horsepower and two diesels offering between 109hp and 182 hp. However, Horn made no mention of likely powertrains for the US. Horn tells Automotive News that all-wheel drive tooling is currently being installed at the Puebla, Mexico, factory where the standard Golf Sportwagen is built. VW might have tipped its hand about this possibility several months ago when press shots of the wagon were released for the US with TDI and 4Motion badges. Horn says he expects even the front-wheel drive version to be a sales hit here, suggesting it may eventually account for 50 percent of the Golf range's volume.
The UK votes for Brexit and it will impact automakers
Fri, Jun 24 2016It's the first morning after the United Kingdom voted for what's become known as Brexit – that is, to leave the European Union and its tariff-free internal market. Now begins a two-year process in which the UK will have to negotiate with the rest of the EU trading bloc, which is its largest export market, about many things. One of them may be tariffs, and that could severely impact any automaker that builds cars in the UK. This doesn't just mean companies that you think of as British, like Mini and Jaguar. Both of those automakers are owned by foreign companies, incidentally. Mini and Rolls-Royce are owned by BMW, Jaguar and Land Rover by Tata Motors of India, and Bentley by the VW Group. Many other automakers produce cars in the UK for sale within that country and also export to the EU. Tariffs could damage the profits of each of these companies, and perhaps cause them to shift manufacturing out of the UK, significantly damaging the country's resurgent manufacturing industry. Autonews Europe dug up some interesting numbers on that last point. Nissan, the country's second-largest auto producer, builds 475k or so cars in the UK but the vast majority are sent abroad. Toyota built 190k cars last year in Britain, of which 75 percent went to the EU and just 10 percent were sold in the country. Investors are skittish at the news. The value of the pound sterling has plummeted by 8 percent as of this writing, at one point yesterday reaching levels not seen since 1985. Shares at Tata Motors, which counts Jaguar and Land Rover as bright jewels in its portfolio, were off by nearly 12 percent according to Autonews Europe. So what happens next? No one's terribly sure, although the feeling seems to be that the jilted EU will impost tariffs of up to 10 percent on UK exports. It's likely that the UK will reciprocate, and thus it'll be more expensive to buy a European-made car in the UK. Both situations will likely negatively affect the country, as both production of new cars and sales to UK consumers will both fall. Evercore Automotive Research figures the combined damage will be roughly $9b in lost profits to automakers, and an as-of-yet unquantified impact on auto production jobs. Perhaps the EU's leaders in Brussels will be in a better mood in two years, and the process won't devolve into a trade war. In the immediate wake of the Brexit vote, though, the mood is grim, the EU leadership is angry, and investors are spooked.
