For sale is a 1985 Volkswagen Cabriolet Karmann Convertible, with features such as leather Recaro race seats, a shift light, and a bar (fuel pressure) gauge. I greatly enjoy this car. It has been a very fun and reliable vehicle, but, sadly, I can't afford to keep two cars so one has to go. The motor is very strong; I have replaced several parts. I have a few receipts, but I can't find them all, as I originally planned to keep this car. The upside: - The title is clean. - All of the lights work, with the exception of the reverse lights, shift light, and the driver's side marker lights (needs bulb clips). - The motor is flawless, with a compression of 110 psi (which is good). It also does not burn or leak a drop of oil. - The transmission shifts very smoothly and easily, and the oil has recently been replaced. It even has a new shifter ("slant/pivot") ball. - NEW PARTS: As said before, I do have some receipts, but not all. Yet all parts listed still look new. The following parts have been replaced within the last 6 months: - Tires on front (not the rear, but they still look pretty good). - Bosh starter and bosh spark plug wires The down side: - There is a nickel-size rust hole above the rear driver's side taillight, and the bottom of the rear passenger fender is rusted out. Some attention to these spots would make it as good as new. Aside from those two spots, there's only surface rust. The bottom is very solid, no rust holes. - The seats are worn, the driver's seat especially. I threw seat covers over them and they still seat comfortably. - It's missing the a/c knob (which slides left and right). I never tested the a/c. - The convertible top moves great; it repels water but could use some attention. - The odometer no longer works. It stopped at 152,000 miles. Overall, this car has been a lot of fun. I weigh 300lbs, and it has a lot of horse power packed in the small 1.8 liter motor. If driven conservatively, it can average over 40 miles per gallon. It rides smooth and is quite air-tight, even on the freeway. If you have further questions feel free to email me. Just a little restoration and this car will look as fantastic as it drives! If you have any questions, please call before bidding. Call or text 6one6 2one8 5eight6six - no scams please. Payment: A small down payment through paypal and full payment in cash upon pickup. Buyer responsible for shipping - we will help get it on a trailer. But we will not ship it for you or get you a shipper. Shipping is buyers cost. It is for sale locally, I reserve the right to cancel this auction if it sells locally

Witness this insane 736-hp VW Golf immolate its front tires
Mon, 11 Mar 2013There's torque steer and then there's what we'll from now on dub "The Boba," as in Boba Kettler. The German tuner has a way with the Volkswagen Golf, and the MkI example you see above has been touched with 736 horsepower - that's right, 96 more ponies than a new SRT Viper, all trying to get to ground through those two front wheels.
The 2.0-liter, 16-valve engine has an 8,800 rpm redline and is aided by a Garrett GTX3582R turbocharger shoving 50 psi through the internals. Other upgrades include a new ECU (natch) and a six-speed 'box among other treats. The rubber is Toyo R888s - street-legal competition tires. The result is enough smoke for three Chinese New Years when the lights go green. Indeed, the standing start isn't its forte, but it can apparently get from 62 miles per hour to 124 mph in five seconds.
Watch it go in the video below. And know that this isn't even Boba's best work; he's got a 900-hp MkII Golf that'll do 0-62 mph in 2.3 seconds.
VW builds 250,000th Passat in Chattanooga in just two years
Sun, 26 May 2013It hasn't been without incident or union organizing drive, but the Volkswagen plant in Chattanooga, TN has built its 250,000 Passat in just a little over two years. The Night Blue Passat TDI with black leather has come just two years and five weeks after the first customer car came off the line on April 18, 2011.
In the last year the plant operated at the 150,000-unit capacity that it was intended for, but the downturn in Passat sales and subsequent worker layoffs mean it will be a challenge to repeat the feat. The plant does have the world's largest solar park, though, and you can't take that away from them.
You'll find the official hand-clapping in the press release below.
Volkswagen debuts MkVII-based diesel Golf GTD
Thu, 21 Feb 2013As Volkswagen prepares for the launch of the seventh-generation Golf, it continues to show off some of the car's different variants. With the standard Golf and the ultra-efficient BlueMotion Concept out of the way, now we're finally starting to see some of the sportier versions planned for the hatchback. Confirmed for a debut at the Geneva Motor Show, Volkswagen has now given us our first glimpse at the Golf GTD.
Just think of the GTD as a diesel version of the GTI with all the handling and styling upgrades, and then add a torquey engine to the equation. (We had the chance to sample the current GTD over the summer, so click here to read more.) To go with the new body style, VW also gave the GTD a new TDI engine consisting of a similar turbocharged and direct-injected 2.0-liter inline-four layout but with an output of 184 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque - that's an increase of 14 hp and 22 lb-ft over the current GTD. That's a pretty good oomph, but the GTD won't be setting any acceleration records with VW quoting a 0-62 mile per hour time of 7.5 seconds thanks to the car's 3,036-pound curb weight.
The styling of the MkVII Golf lends itself quite well to the more aggressive body kit found on the GTD (and likely matching the GTI). The new front fascia and blacked-out grille give the GTD a sporty look up front, while 17-inch sport wheels, rocker panel extensions and smoked LED taillights finish off the visual changes. The GTD will only be offered in three exterior colors: Tornado Red, Black and Pure White. As expected, the interior gets the plaid seat inserts and flat-bottomed sport steering wheel, but the car also gets stainless steel pedals, a black headliner, ambient cabin lighting and a specific gauge cluster readout.
