It is time to let go of my 1985 Volkswagen Westfalia. I purchased it from the original owner/family. I have done alot of work to make it road trip ready with my wife and 6 year old. We recently went to the east coast and back with no issues. The engine runs great, doesn't burn oil or leak. The manual transmission shifts like new. It has 153k on it and the odometer and speedometer still work. The AC works fine and has had alot of work done. I have made several upgrades over stock. I have also added AC to use at the campground with a panel that mounts in the passenger window. The Ac unit is 12k btu and 8k btu heat, both work good. Its sleeps 2 above and 2 below. This vanagon drives great, and will go 65-70 all day long. So before anybody asks, yes it will drive home. It has been a fun vanagon and gets lots of looks and compliments. Even though its not perfect cosmetically it is clean. I will list the work done below. All parts listed as replaced have been done in the last year and 2,500 miles.
Engine- original 1.9l runs great, heads resealed by previous owner. In the last year parts replaced: plugs, wires, cap, rotor, rebuilt throttle body by rocky jennings, intake manifold and plenum painted w/por 15 and new gaskets, fuel injector seals, all fuel lines and clamps, removed and painted and installed new grommets/gaskets/lines on fuel tank, idle control unit, oxygen sensor, fuel filter, muffler and tail pipe, just changed the oil w/ mobil one synthetic.
Transmission- greased all bushings, changed gear oil w/ proper brad penn oil, new slave cylinder. added shifter extension, quiet, shifts smooth.
lights/electrical- lights work, wipers and washer work, signals work but for some reason the rt. blinkers don't flash when the headlights are on.
interior- new north westy tent this spring, sunbrella material color taupe, 3 windows, cd player 4 new speakers, new german waeco 12v fridge, works great, runs quiet, keeps popsicles frozen, works 30 degrees out of level-made for boats, keeps 2 half gallon containers in door, made custom panel and door below for more storage, supposed to run for 3 1/2 days on battery. new agm deep cycle battery under rear seat, power max charger, blue sea fuse panel under sink, yandina combiner/separator, so it charges off alternator, also won't kill the starting battery sink works great w/ electric pump, extra 12v added in cabinet near rear seat for my daughter to watch movies, 4 point harness added for children safety, previous owner had a cb radio at one time so there is a block off plate added in dash and extra ant. on passenger side,
AC- removed and resealed ac unit, new expansion valve, drier, high pressure line, resealed compressor, new ac/fan switch, filled w/ redtek, 12v fan added to help get air to the front, can also be used to cirulate at night.
Wheels/suspension- Mercedes clk wheels w/aluminum Wolfsburg caps, new Pirelli extra load tires, new front an rear shocks, new upper ball joints, 12 mm spacers, new lug nuts, bolts, studs, new power steering rack and tie rods installed a couple of years ago by previous owner, new rear wheel cylinders and all soft brake lines, drives and handles tight.
Body/paint- wild 80's graffics and repaint which is not that great of quality, It hasn't bothered me since it is used for camping and I won't shed a tear if it gets scratched. It has its share of nicks, scratches, filler, filler in the front right and passenger door, pass. door has to be slammed shut, filler in rt rear, another spot in the left rear from previous owner's neighbor backing into it. The filler is from dents/damage, the chassis is solid and not rusty,no major rust, some small spots at some seams all areas pictured, I sprayed brown paint of spots so they won't stand out as much-pictured as well
parts removed- I removed the propane tank, it is included if requested. It will need painted and the valve updated. The original fridge is included if requested, it is like new but these fridges are small and don't work that well, I also have the original panel. The stove is there, I was going to add an adapter to run 1 lb propane tanks but never did, always used a Coleman stove
I have a 1980 westfalia for parts for an additional $500 if the buyer wants it.
I can assist with delivery after payment if I can haul it to and from in a day for the expense of fuel.
I may add more, I have retyped this 4 times and stuff disappears.I will add Saturday and take pics of the portable ac unit.
Shipping is up to the buyer. It can be stored here no problem. If you are from europe you will have to get your own shipping quotes. You can call during the day at 615-604-2567. I have a clean title in my name.
On Aug-31-13 at 07:02:01 PDT, seller added the following information:
temp II sensor, temp gauge sensor, intake boots were replaced on the engine as well, picture added of AC unit. I have spent several thousand dollars in maintenance and upgrades.

Latest Volkswagen Transporter shows itself as the modern Microbus
Thu, Apr 16 2015With a model history dating back to 1950, the newly unveiled Volkswagen Transporter has a long legacy to uphold as one of elder statesmen of the commercial vehicle world. The sixth generation maintains the classic boxy look, and VW even admits that the shape is "modernized cautiously." Still, the changes show handsome improvements like creases in the hood and a grille that better integrates into the headlights. Rather than styling, economy is more on the minds of many commercial buyers. VW ticks that box with an average 15-percent improvement in fuel consumption across the lineup, thanks in part to standard stop/start. The engine range includes a 2.0-liter diesel four-cylinder available in 83-, 101-, 148- and 201-horsepower variants. There's also a 2.0-liter gasoline-fueled four with either 148 hp or 201 hp. VW is really working to make the Transporter a safer, more comfortable carrier for its new generation. The van is available with features like adjustable shocks, adaptive cruise control, a power tailgate and the company's City Assist Braking system, which is capable of automatically bringing the van to a stop from under 19 mph. The Driver Alert System even monitors behavior behind the wheel and advises when to take a break. VW offers the T6 in many variants, including the Multivan for carrying people and mixed use Caravelle, but the highlight at launch is the fantastic looking Generation Six special edition (pictured above). Based on the Multivan Comfortline, the retro, two-tone paint is optional, but standard features include LED headlights, chrome trim and Alcantara seats. While the latest Transporter isn't coming to the US, European buyers can order one soon with a base price of 23,035 euros ($27,000). Generation SIX: world premiere of the new T series Classic Transporter design is even sharper, more precise, higher end Better fuel economy – new engines with stop/start function as standard Better safety – latest driver assistance systems More comfort and convenience – adaptive chassis, electrically adjustable seats and electric tailgate More information – new radio-navigation system with integrated online services Prices start below level of previous model Hannover/Amsterdam, 15 April 2015 – Today, the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles brand presents the sixth generation of the successful Transporter model series that is produced in Hannover.
Volkswagen iBeetle gets integrated iPhone dock, little else
Fri, 19 Apr 2013Apple fans have been itching to see the tech giant flex the full muscle of its iOS operating system in an automotive infotainment system for years, which is why we turned all sorts of excited when we caught wind of the Volkswagen iBeetle. The machine is headed to the Shanghai Motor Show for a debut, and VW promised it would be one of the "first cars in the world to have a genuine integrative interface for the iPhone that was coordinated with Apple." Listen closely, and you can hear the contented sigh of a million wallets opening.
Go ahead and close those up, kids.
In reality, the iBeetle offers little more than a dash-mounted dock and a special app that shows a few vehicle functions, which is about as far from an infotainment revolution as you're likely to find. In fact, the setup is little more than a factory rehash of aftermarket items, and hardly worth a whole model debut at an international motor show. And that's to say nothing of the fact that Apple relishes in changing the shape and form of its darling handheld at every generation. Volkswagen better be prepared to keep pace with appropriate docking mechanisms for the upcoming iPhone 5S, 6, 6S, et al.
Volkswagen taps Porsche chief for board
Mon, Feb 23 2015Matthias Mueller was promoted to the top position at Porsche in 2010 after a successful stint of developing model lines during his 36 years with the company, mainly at Audi. Having shown the same prowess while overseeing Porsche for the past five years, German outlet Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reports that Mueller will be promoted to the management board of the Volkswagen Group, according to a leaked copy of an agenda for the meeting. It's said that a new spot is being created for him, one that will put him in charge of "overseeing cooperation" among Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, and Porsche. While other group executives are known to hold positions on the board and with brands, or across brands, it isn't clear yet whether Mueller will keep his spot at the CEO of Porsche after the promotion. One thing that is certain is the 61-year-old Mueller doesn't see himself in line for Volkswagen Group CEO Martin Winterkorn's job in 2016, having told FAZ this month, "It's no solution to put a 63-year-old at the head of Volkswagen."
