Loooong Volkswagen Doka - Uberunique! on 2040-cars
Evergreen, Colorado, United States

Front of a '62 Double Cab attached to the long bed of a '59 single cab. Double treasure chests, Safaris front and rear, grafted OG corner glass, walk-thru, new canvas on seat frames, new coconut pads & seat covers from Wolfsburg West, interior panels from Clara, Bakelite Suicide Knob on steering wheel, driver's side rocker needs paint but has been repaired nicely.
KCW adjustable front beam, chrome five star wheels, tires have <600 miles on them, professionally installed Wiring Works custom harness, professionally installed new fuel tank, new German master cylinder, new rear drums, brake pads & hoses all the way around. Shaved front turn signals (have billet signals/wiring for bumpers). Rear & front bumpers w/towel bars included. Brand new seals, WW rubber front mat, big OG stop light for rear. New shocks. Decklid included. Our summer plans are beginning to gel which do not include many shows or street cruises. We're in the final throws of restoring a pretty neat '71 tin-top bay camper for our daughter. Taking that and our '63 Caravelle camper out camping a lot this summer. This is the only reason we're posting this bus. Would be a perfect advertising bus, cruiser or special show ride. We're just not going to be doing much of either and I'd be remiss if this bus doesn't get the attention it clearly has earned. Being an OG geek, I simply do not get this one out much. For those purists out there who are more interested in passing judgement than being cool, please heckle someone else; I fully recognize and accept this bus isn't for everyone. If you don't like the faux-tina, paint it the way you'd prefer. Happy to drive, or trailer, it to you for a reasonable, and agreed upon, fee. Should have more images over the next couple of days. This bus does need some additional attention, as most busses do, although the vast majority of the work and expense has already been done. You are undoubtedly intelligent and know the market for busses too, consider what the expense might be to duplicate a unique ride like this one. The welding alone is worth quite a bit, even if you could source a clean double cab front end and clean single cab long end. And OG glass all the way around, with the exception of the front of and rear safaris. The video on youtube under - '62 VW Double Cab - showcases just a few of the steps taken to finish the Loooong Doka. The video was posted by GetWheelHappy. The motor in the video is not included as it has been installed in our daughter's tin-top bay camper. To say it another way, this bus DOES NOT include a motor. Please also factor this into consideration when you place your bid. Please know this is a pretty unique bus, one that doesn't hit the market very often. Might be your cup of tea, might not be. Interested in making some changes? That is entirely your decision when you own it. We're more motivated in this bus going to someone who who appreciates, and recognizes, how special it truly is than asking an astronomical figure for the bus. That being the case, starting the auction at $.99 with NO RESERVE. Thanks for taking the time to read this auction and good luck with your bidding! |

Volkswagen may soon have remedy for more cheating diesels
Tue, May 10 2016Nearly a half-million motorists who own Volkswagens equipped with 2.0-liter engines have known for a few weeks the company might wind up buying back their vehicles as part of a settlement surrounding the company's emissions cheating. But about 85,000 drivers who own similarly afflicted diesels with 3.0-liter engines have been stuck without a remedy. They may not be waiting much longer. Bloomberg reports that Volkswagen will soon propose a fix for vehicles, including those from Audi and Porsche, equipped with 3.0-liter engines that will include new software and a new catalytic converter for the vehicles. Discussions with federal regulators are ongoing, according to the news outlet. "We are cooperating with the regulatory agencies and working with them on an approved solution," says Audi spokesperson Mark Clothier. "Beyond that, we cannot comment on ongoing investigations." Regulators have alleged that the company's 3.0-liter engines contain "defeat devices," illegal software that allows a vehicle to detect when it's undergoing an emissions test and turn off pollution control during real-world driving. The defeat device allows these vehicles to increase emissions of nitrogen oxide up to nine times the Environmental Protection Agency's allowable threshold. Affected 3.0-liter vehicles include the 2014 Volkswagen Toureg, 2015 Porsche Cayenne and the 2016 Audi A6 Quattro, A7 Quattro, A8, A8L and Q5. Volkswagen is slated to finalize its plans for buying back the afflicted 2.0-liter cars and potentially offer those motorists "substantial compensation" for their troubles by June 21, and it's possible that a formal announcement on the 3.0-liter vehicles would come at the same time. Rimac is reportedly close to buying Bugatti from the Volkswagen Group
Thu, Sep 17 2020Croatia-based Rimac is finalizing a deal to purchase Bugatti from the Volkswagen Group, according to an unverified report. If the rumor is accurate, the sale would propel Rimac to the top of the automotive industry, guarantee that Bugatti's future is electric, and mark the beginning of Volkswagen's efforts to divest its empire. Executives in Wolfsburg gave the deal the green light in September 2020, according to anonymous sources who spoke to British magazine Car, but the company's supervisory board hasn't approved it yet. Selling the French company isn't as simple as sending company founder Mate Rimac an email with an account number. Insiders explained Volkswagen would likely trade Bugatti and all of its assets for a significant stake in Rimac that would be transferred directly to Porsche, which already owns 15.5% of the brand. Officials hope to increase that figure to about 49%, meaning Bugatti is theoretically worth about 33.5% of Rimac, which was founded in 2009. Bugatti told Autoblog it can't comment on speculation. Mate Rimac gave us a similar answer. Rumors of a Bugatti sale have hovered around the automotive industry for several years, and they've never materialized. In theory, spinning off the brand would be relatively easy because it's not as deeply integrated into the Volkswagen Group as its sister companies. It doesn't share its W16 engine with another carmaker, for example. And yet, Car speculates Lamborghini, SEAT, ItalDesign, Bentley, and Ducati will also be sold in the coming years, leaving Volkswagen with its namesake division, Skoda, Audi, Porsche, Scania, and MAN. Volkswagen is having an estate sale to fund the development of electric, autonomous, and digital technologies. Its downsizing will send ripples through the auto industry. Porsche could move upmarket if it doesn't have to worry about stepping on Lamborghini's toes, for example. Spinoffs are always risky, so some companies may not survive if they're not bolstered by economies of scale. As of writing, there's no word on who will pick up the brands being divested under this scenario. And, keep in mind none of this is official. Volkswagen hasn't commented on the report. We'll update this developing story as more information becomes available.
FCA to pay buyers $1,700 to swap out of scandal-mired VWs
Tue, Oct 6 2015FCA is trying to gain some sales from arch-rival VW in the competitive European market by offering potential buyers in Italy up to $1,700 to swap into an FCA group car. While the promotion isn't specifically targeted at TDI owners affected by the emissions scandal, it is clearly intended to turn dissatisfaction with VW's defeat device cheat into additional sales, Bloomberg reports. The 500-1,500 euro incentive (roughly $560-1,700, depending on vehicle) stacks on top of any other rebates or deals applicable, and applies if a buyer brings in any of Volkswagen Group's cars – including Audi, Skoda, and SEAT, among (many) others. As Bloomberg notes, it's normal for automakers to offer "conquest" deals – giving a buyer cash for trading in a competitor's vehicle. Those deals aren't usually limited to one company's products, however; FCA's program looks specifically to take advantage of VW's legal and public relations nightmare. FCA isn't the only automaker trying this trick in Italy. Automotive News Europe also reported that Ford is offering approximately $840 in incentives across its entire range to owners of VW vehicles seeking to trade in for a Ford. No word of yet as to whether these incentives will spread beyond Italy or to other automakers.Related Video:
