This is a fairly rare 1972 double sliding door panel van.  It's an actual Kombi model built as a commercial vehicle by VW.  The front seat is the full width, 3 passenger, non walk through type that makes this bus even more rare.

I'm helping sell this on eBay for a friend who is the legal owner and everything is true to the best of my knowledge.  I've taken several pictures trying my best to show all the flaws.  It's possible I might have missed something and if I did it wasn't intensional.  I've also driven the bus and here's what I found.  The engine is a GE code 2000cc with hydraulic lifters retrofitted from either a 1978 or 1979 fuel injected bus.  It starts right up and has a lot of power.  There is a small oil leak and I'd guess that's from leaking push rod tube seals which are easy to replace.  When running, the idle "hunts" and I believe this is caused by either a bad brake booster or maybe just the brake booster vacuum line has a leak, an easy fix.  When shifting there is a slight gear grind going into third.  The bus has some rust issues and the pictures should display that pretty well I think.  The mileage is unknown but quite high.

I can help arrange worldwide shipping for the buyer.  A deposit of $500 is due within 48 hours via Paypal.  The balance is due in 7 days via bank wire transfer.  Please see my feedback and rest assured that I am an honest seller with 100% feedback rating. Full set of pictures can be viewed here:

Here's a statement from the owner:

I am the third owner of this van. It was originally imported by and for the use of an Idaho VW dealer in 1972. It was purchased from that dealer in 1973 by one of the shops mechanics. I purchased the van from him around 1985. This van carries a heavy pay load and has been a work vehicle all the time I have owned it. Ithas carried wood, stone, compost, nursery inventory and more. Around 1995 my mechanic replaced the engine and gas tank with one's out of a van from the late 70's. I also had him add gauges and an external oil filtration system made by amzoil. It's location history is approximately:

1972-1976 – Idaho

1976-1993 - California

1993-2011 - Minnesota

2011-present - California (retains Minnesota plates)

Since being driven to California in 2011 the van has sat in a garage unused. I put it on the charger overnight and have put several hundred miles on it in the last couple weeks. It is in running condition but were I to drive it back across country again I'd have my mechanic give it a good look through and update.

This is the only bay window double door slider I have ever seen with the bench seat. It came stock with 3 seat belts.

Feel free to ask questions.

All information is accurate to the best of my knowledge.

New European charging network will offer speeds up to 350 kW

Tue, Nov 29 2016

It's about to get easier to fast-charge your electric vehicle across Europe thanks to four major automakers working together in a new joint venture. BMW, Daimler (Mercedes-Benz), Ford, and the VW Group (Audi and Porsche) have all signed a Memorandum of Understanding to install about 400 DC fast charging sites in Europe. As you may know, there are different types of fast chargers, but the ones that this group is talking about installing will be able to charge an EV in much less time than other stations. That's because these chargers will offer power levels of "up to 350 kW." Compare that to what's generally considered the current gold standard, the Tesla Superchargers, which have rates of up to 145 kW and a statement not that long ago from a Ford exec that suggested that 150 kW chargers would be the new normal. Of course, the Tesla chargers use the company's proprietary connector and the new network the JV is setting up will use the CCS standard. The first new stations will go up in 2017 and those 400 sites are just the beginning. A joint statement by the JV says that EV drivers will "have access to thousands of high-powered charging points" by 2020 along highways and main roads. "The charging experience is expected to evolve to be as convenient as refueling at conventional gas stations," the companies said. While not every electric vehicle will be able to take advantage of the 350 kW charging rate, the companies involved would be silly to build the infrastructure without vehicles that can handle that kind of energy flow. The JV says it would welcome participation from other automakers and will cooperate with interested regional partners. Audi's CEO might not have known of VW emissions scheme

Tue, Sep 27 2016

There's been no shortage of finger-pointing when it comes to finding people to blame for the Volkswagen diesel-emissions scandal that broke last September. One rather powerful executive, however, appears to have escaped blame. That would be Audi CEO Rupert Stadler, whose company sold about 85,000 diesel vehicles with emissions-cheating software, Reuters says, citing people familiar with the process. US law firm Jones Day questioned executives at both VW and its Audi unit and has found no evidence that Stadler was complicit with the plan, which involved programming Volkswagen-made diesel engines to produce artificially low emissions when the vehicle was being smog-tested. In Audi's case, the engine type in question was the 3.0-liter V6 diesel. Officials with both VW and its Audi unit declined to comment, according to Reuters. That engine was used for the Audi A6, A7, A8, Q5, and Q7 since the 2009 model year, in addition to the VW Touareg and Porsche Cayenne. Audi also sold the VW Group 2.0-liter four-cylinder in the A3 from 2010 to 2013 and 2015. VW has reached an agreement with US regulators concerning that engine, which is also not connected to Stadler. Last month, German newspaper Bild am Sonntag published specifics on how the 3.0-liter diesel cheated the emissions-testing process, including records that the motor was programmed to shut of its emissions-control equipment after 22 minutes of running, or about two minutes longer than typical emissions-compliance testing. Audi said last November that it would work on a software update for the V6's emissions-control system that would be submitted to both the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), but the VW unit hasn't reached any settlement with US regulators implying that a solution was agreed upon. Volkswagen's settlement with the EPA will cost Europe's largest automaker as much as $15 billion in the form of buybacks, lease buyouts, vehicle repairs, and investments in zero-emissions technology. VW sold about a half-million vehicles in the US that contained the so-called "cheat" software. UCS replaces VW's green title with 'dirtiest tailpipe'

Thu, Oct 22 2015

When it comes to tailpipe emissions, Volkswagen may have leapfrogged Ford and General Motors. Just not in the right direction. That's what the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) is saying in the wake of the German automaker's diesel-emissions scandal. After recalculating what it thinks are the real-world diesel-engine tailpipe emissions levels now that we know about VW's "defeat devices," the UCS says the actual diesel emissions would cause the company's total fleet to worsen its environmental impact by about 25 percent. The VW diesels alone, which account for just 0.7 percent of new-vehicle sales, would most likely make up eight percent of total light-duty-vehicle tailpipe emissions, UCS says. Prior to the scandal, the UCS had VW tied with Toyota and Nissan for the third-cleanest fleet, behind Hyundai/Kia and Honda. The recalculated VW has been downgraded to Chrysler territory, which is, in effect, the bottom of the heap when it comes to tailpipe emissions. The UCS adds that the current VW diesels spew out the amount of emissions similar to a typical 2005 vehicle. So much for moving forward. You can read UCS' rather scathing synopsis here. UCS isn't the first entity to bump down Volkswagen's green-car credentials after the discovery that its diesels might be emitting as much as 40 times the nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions during typical driving than official test results said they did, and isn't likely to be the last. In September, Green Car Journal stripped the 2009 VW Jetta TDI and 2010 Audi A3 TDI diesels of their Green Car Of The Year Awards. The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) also removed VW diesel vehicles off of its "Green Scores" list last month.
