1989 Volkswagen Vanagon Gl Wolfsburg Edition on 2040-cars
Mechanicsville, Virginia, United States
As far as I can tell, I am the 4th owner of this 1989 Volkswagen Vanagon GL. The first two owners apparently lived out west (beginning as a new dealer sold vehicle in 1990). The 3rd owner was my neighbor's son (near Richmond, VA) --- who bought the van in the 2000-2001 timeframe. He had the engine rebuilt in Denver (very solid rebuild job) just before I bought it from him. From 2001 through 2011, I steadily replaced many parts in the Vanagon. Some were necessary repairs but many were replacements that I carried out because I simply wanted to improve the reliability of the van --- and because the components were still available and relatively cheap at the time (no longer the case for many of the parts that I purchased early in my ownership history). I have replaced the following components: All Standard "Tune Up" Parts Battery Standard 4 speed Manual Transmission (with rebuilt transmission) Alternator (Rebuilt Bosch) Steering Gear Power Steering Pump All Hoses Disc Brake Calipers, Disc Brake Pads, Rear Brake Shoes Complete Rear Drive Axles, CV Joints, etc. Radiators --- both Front and Rear A/C Compressor and Most Key A/C Components A/C Hoses Gas Tank Special Gas Tank Air Emissions Relief Hoses Master Brake Cylinder Clutch Slave Cylinder Fuel Injectors Fuel Pump Distributor Miscellaneous Transmission Linkage Parts Miscellaneous other parts (not listed above) Complete external paint job Aftermarket radio/tape player Added New Carpeting Shipping & Payment: Pick Up Only. Buyer is solely responsible for pickup and shipping costs. Seller specifically sells this vehicle in "AS IS" condition and "WHERE IS" condition. Seller offers buyer no warranty or guarantee of any type for this vehicle. Vehicle is 25 years old and seller cannot offer a guaranty or warranty of service for a vehicle of this age. Payment for the full sale price of the vehicle must be made by Cashiers Check physically transferred to the seller by the buyer by Saturday September 6, 2014. Vehicle must be picked up and removed from seller's property by the buyer no later than Saturday September 6, 2014. |

Golf tees up new sales for VW
Sat, Sep 12 2015If you consider the Passat and the CC two different lines, Volkswagen USA lists nine different models on its website, and they have sold a total of 238,074 units in the US this year through the end of August. The Golf, which was voted North American car of the year in 2015, and its variants account for 44,416 sales, an increase of nearly 150 percent compared to the same period last year. That's also the most Golfs ever sold in that time in the US, and almost 19 percent of this year's entire brand sales. This is compared to a compact car segment that has gained just 1.1 percent compared to 2014. A number of factors are responsible, according to a report in Automotive News: the MQB platform allows different powertrains to roll down the same assembly line; VW USA product planners can now configure vehicles to suit our market and they work with a selection of dealers to refine the retail offering; and the Golf maintains its proper European driving experience. The expanse of the Golf range has meant not only increased profits and new buyers, but more breadth in the buying demographic - expanding outward from the standard Golf to five different extremes, from the e-Golf to the Golf R. Room will be made for a new kind of consumer next year when the current Sportwagen model goes all-wheel drive with an Alltrack designation. Unsurprisingly, VW USA says, "Golf is a role model for the US for us. We want to learn from our success and implement those lessons in our future model planning." After decades of uneven effort, perhaps that formula plus a long-awaited range of crossovers can finally deliver on the promise of the US market. Related Video:
Skoda racing Up! to Worthersee with Citigo Rally concept
Thu, 17 May 2012If you thought the Volkswagen Group was about to wind down the endless stream of concept cars based on the new Up! city car, think again. Because not only is the Volkswagen brand itself keeping the train a-moving, so are its sister brands.
Skoda has its own version of the Up called the Citigo. But what racing fans know the Czech subsidiary for best is its rally program that has become a dominant force in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge and the basis for VW's own foray into the World Rally Championship. Now Skoda is bringing the two together with an exciting concept car previewed by the rendering above and confirmed in the press release below.
Following in the footsteps of the tantalizing Fabia roadster unveiled last year, the Citigo Rally concept is to be the centerpiece of the Skoda display at the Volkswagen Group's annual hot-hatch gathering at Lake Wörthersee in Austria. Details are scarce, but the show car will feature rally-inspired bodywork complete with 18-inch white alloys packed into aggressively flared wheel arches, a substantial rear wing and vents aplenty.
Honda wins Commercial of the Decade, but not for the ad you think [w/VIDEO]
Fri, 18 Dec 2009Honda's Commercial of the Decade: "Grrr" - Click above to watch video
The mad men at Adweek recently voted for the Commercial of the Decade (Super Bowl commercials not included) and Honda took top honors over memorable ads from the last ten years by companies like Nike, Budweiser and Sony. That's not a big surprise considering Honda often puts a huge amount of effort into its on-air spots. However, the Japanese automaker didn't win for the commercial you might have expected: "Cog." Though Honda's famous commercial that breaks down a European Accord Tourer into a Rube Goldberg-esque machine was also a finalist, it was beaten by another Honda commercial called "Grrr" that's narrated by Garrison Keillor of all people. You've probably never seen it, but you can after the jump.
Volkswagen also made the list of finalists, but the particular ad chosen out of all the comical VW ads we've seen was unexpected as well. Most surprising carmaker with a commercial in the finals: Saturn. Who knew...
