1987 Westfalia Vanagon Automatic on 2040-cars

We purchased this champagne-colored Westy in the summer of 2012 and have since done a TON of work on it. The details are below, but in summary, this 1987 Vanagon Westfalia is dreamy to sleep in. Take it to your favorite spot in the woods or at the beach and play all day and cozy up in the pm in the all-original, very clean interior. I LOVE hunkering down in this little home away from home, popping the top, and sleeping through the night.
As for getting where you are going - The engine is a new 2.2 litre GoWesty engine. It now has 2900 miles on it - Yup - still under warranty. Move over slow cars, we are on your tail! Many big and small mechanical parts have been replaced with new and rebuilt parts (all of those details are below and we have all of the paperwork which provides even more detail). The 16" wheels, an upgrade from the original 15"'ers, are also brand new. As mentioned, the curtains and everything else on the interior is original and super-clean. The refrigerator is not working, and we never used the stove, but it *should* be working. The sink faucet and pump were replaced, so that is working fine. The body is in decent condition, but if we were going to keep it, we would get it painted. See photos. The body has 205,215 miles on it and you know... it was built in 1987. Please ask any questions you may have - there is so much info to provide, it is quite possible I am forgetting to include something here. VW will reportedly offer cash to cheated diesel car drivers
Sun, Nov 8 2015If you're feeling burned by Volkswagen's decision to cheat on diesel emissions tests, you might get some compensation for your troubles. Sources for The Truth About Cars understand that VW will launch a "TDI Goodwill Program" that compensates diesel car drivers with cash in the form of prepaid cards. In the US, you'd get both a $500 universal card as well as a VW-only card worth $500 to $750. The automaker isn't confirming details just yet, but it tells the New York Times that it's planning an announcement on Monday. Dealers also tell the newspaper that they're aware of a program in the works, although they don't know the specifics. It may not include the expanded range of cars reportedly tainted by the scandal, though, since VW is denying claims that it cheated with some models. This isn't the only olive branch VW has been offering: it's been handing out deals to existing owners willing to hop into new vehicles, and there are more discounts than usual across the board. However, the goodwill effort would represent the first instance of VW directly compensating drivers who'd previously thought they were getting an eco-friendly machine. This isn't going to make up for years of unnecessary pollution, but it may represent the company's best hope of holding on to customers. VW recalling 2.64M vehicles worldwide over engine, light issues
Thu, 14 Nov 2013Volkswagen is staging a massive, worldwide recall that's already grown from 1.68 million to 2.64 million vehicles and covers three different issues across a number of vehicles. We already reported on 61,000 Tiguans getting recalled over lighting issues - that was just in the US. Globally, however, VW will be recalling 800,000 Tiguans, according to Automotive News, with the focus on CUVs built between 2008 and 2011. The issue with the Tiguan relates to a simple fuse swap, so this is rather unremarkable, aside from the sheer number of vehicles being fixed. The real, troubling issues relate to gearboxes and pickups.
239,000 Amarok pickups (pictured right) are being recalled over fuel leaks, while 1.6 million vehicles are being recalled to swap the synthetic oil in dual-clutch transmissions with mineral oil. Now, the transmission issue is one for the global Volkswagen Group to address, not just the VW brand - vehicles from Audi, Škoda and Seat use the same seven-speed DSG and are covered under the recall, as well.
Why the switch from synthetic to mineral oil? Apparently, using the synthetic oil in a DSG and then subjecting it to stop-and-go conditions or heavy loads in a hot and humid climate can lead to electronic malfunctions, according to a Volkswagen press release. The switch, from the sounds of it, is largely a preventative measure.
