Uprated 009 transmission from a later model Vanagon along with late model shifter equipped with short throw shift kit and leather knob. 15" Alloy wheels with Vanco tires (D load rated proper for this weight) with approx 50% life still. Within the last 3 years its had new shocks, all new brakes, and ball joints. Brand new fuel pump. Fuel tank has new crossover kit and grommets. South African Grill w/ Halogen head lights. Headlight relay kit installed. CD player w/Ipod hook up Custom dash caddy Extra gauges Two auxiliary batteries installed under back seat (Optima). Front seats have new upholstery and padding. Cabinets rebuilt with butcher block tops. Wood laminate floor. Propane tank Propane heater (never used by us so unsure of its condition...its clean though) Water and waste tanks. Sink, two burner stove and AC/DC fridge. Nice fold out bed. Custom curtains with lining. LED interior lights Ample storage above cab Second bed in upper area. Nice Awning Runs excellent (was just driven from Southern California to Washington State and back after the rebuild) High mounted taillights for tailgaters! Featured in the book "VW Camper Cookbook Rides Again" A new copy will be included with the sale. The Bad: Original paint. It still holds a shine but is showing its age. Its getting thin in parts and has scratches and dings as its been used to camp and go on numerous family trips. No rust but lots of character. Vinyl stripes and decals are sun cracked and shrunk. You could easily live with this and preserve it by keeping it waxed and or covered. If you want a show car it will have to be repainted. The engine: As I have said it was recently rebuilt using a aftermarket performance camshaft from SCAT. The engine runs terrific and the cam gave it that extra bit of power it needed for hills. The problem is when it came time to smog it here in California it wouldnt pass because of it. The new owner will have to be someone in a state with less stringent smog laws or someone that wouldn't mind swapping it out for a stock spec cam (which is all it would need). We have decided not to do the work as we are ready to move on to a bigger RV. The Vanagon has a clear title and the registration fees have been paid up to date. The Vanagon will be sold in AS-IS condition with NO warranty implied or given. All shipping arrangements and expenses to be made by the buyer. Payment to be made by either cash in person , certified bank check , or bank transfer. Title will be held till all funds clear. Pay-Pal to be used for deposit ONLY. Feel free to ask questions or if your local and would like to see it in person contact me to make arrangements. |

Recharge Wrap-up: Elio TV ads, Waivecar free EV carsharing
Wed, Jan 27 2016Waivecar is a new carsharing service that allows users two free hours of EV driving. The rentals are paid for with advertising, and each Chevrolet Spark EV in the fleet has an ad board affixed to its roof. So, while the driver enjoys free use of the car, the organizations buying the ads get exposure wherever the user goes. Drivers pay $5.99 per hour past the first two free hours of use. The company is undergoing a three-month trial in Venice Beach and Santa Monica before considering possible expansion. "We're giving to the lower-income people that need cars," says Waivecar CEO Isaac Deutsch. Read more at Green Car Reports. Volkswagen CEO Matthias Mueller is calling for a reworking of European emissions testing. He feels it is time to adapt the tests so that lab results more closely reflect those of real-world driving. "The industrywide discrepancies between official test results and actual usage is no longer tolerable," says Mueller. "We, the industry, need to take a new path." He also says he will make VW more environmentally friendly, and that the automaker plans to roll out 20 new electric vehicles by 2020. Additionally, Mueller is urging politicians to support the building of charging infrastructure. Read more at Bloomberg Business. Elio Motors has launched its first television ad campaign. The 30- and 60-second spots for the three-wheeled EV are titled "Own The Future," and will air on a variety of cable networks including ESPN, Fox News and National Geographic. "Our grassroots and digital efforts have helped create a strong – almost rabid – enthusiasm for our vehicle," says Elio Motors Founder and CEO Paul Elio. "As our funding situation continues to make progress, we are now in a position to share our message and create more fans through this national advertising campaign." Elio Motors Continues Momentum with Launch of First National Television Advertising Campaign PHOENIX, Jan. 26, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Elio Motors (www.eliomotors.com) today announced it has launched its first national television advertising campaign to continue building consumer awareness for the company's three-wheeled vehicle that is expected to get up to 84 MPG and sell for a targeted base price of $6,800. Yes, a family of 5 can live in a 1981 VW Westfalia van
Fri, Feb 14 2014Automakers and marketers trying to reach environmentally conscious consumers who desire the simple life basically have two strategies: promote electric vehicles that can be charged through green energy or sell a 30-year-old Volkswagen van on Craigslist. Nicolas Boullosa and Kirsten Dirksen opted for Plan B and turned a 1981 Volkswagen Westfalia camper into a "micro-living" experiment. The co-founders of the simple living website faircompanies packed up their van and three young children for a road trip through the Pacific Northwest. They even turned the adventure into a documentary called Summer of (Family) Love, which you can view below. It's two hours long, so maybe add this to your weekend viewing list. They limited themselves to one backpack per person into a camper that they purchased off Craigslist and named "Westy." They stuck to their original intention of cooking all their own meals off a propane stove, creating a new little home every night in a different location, mostly spaces outside RV parks. They met up with other enthusiasts of the "tiny house" community who live like nomads. They were able to interview a few of then and, "With each stop we picked up some new piece of wisdom about life's essentials," Dirksen wrote in the faircompanies blog. Volkswagen tipped to launch turbocharged Up! with 100 hp
Tue, Jan 6 2015Overseas customers enticed by the compact dimensions of the Volkswagen Up! but turned off by its diminutive 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine may be encouraged by reports that the German automaker is planning a more potent turbo version. Previewed by the GT Up! concept showcased at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show (pictured above), the more performance-oriented model is expected to pack the turbo three from the larger Polo, where it produces 100 horsepower channeled through a five-speed manual transmission. That may not seem like much, but it would put the existing 59- and 74-horsepower versions of the German city car to shame. That might not give it enough punch to keep pace with the upcoming Smart Fortwo Brabus (and its Renaultsport Twingo counterpart), tipped to pack as much as 130 hp, but it could stand to out-perform the existing 89-hp turbo models of both. Given that the reports are emanating from Brazil, however, it is possible that the Up! Turbo (or whatever it's ultimately called) would be limited to the South American market, if it's built at all. One thing's for sure, though: it's not likely to make it to North American showrooms anytime soon.
