1977 Volkswagen Bus Automatic on 2040-cars
Cloquet, Minnesota, United States
|
Up for bids, our 1977 VW Camper Bus. We have owned this Bus for 20 years to the month. We purchased it in Colorado in August of 1994. We brought it to our home
in Cloquet, Minnesota where it has remained all these years. It never was used as a daily driver, only for recreation and camping trips. The original fuel injection on it was problematic for us so we had it converted to carburation for reliability and serviceability. The body is not rusty at all and the paint scheme with the lower body painted black was like that when we got it 20 years ago. There are no bubbles or rust showing through that area so I would assume it was just done as a cosmetic thing rather than a rust repair job. The interior is very nice with one small tear area on the drivers seat side of cushion. Mechanically the Bus runs and drives great. I have no idea what the actual mileage is on the Bus. It shows 42,000 but I would imagine it is 142,000. When we bought it, it showed 22,396 on the odometer statement from Colorado Bill of Sale. (indicating in excess of mechanical limits) I'm sure the motor was changed or rebuilt at some point during it's mileage history but I have no records of that. The motor seems to run strong and quiet. Please be aware that we have used the Bus very little over the years and most of the time it is in storage. It might be used all of four weeks a year. In the past five years it has hardly been used at all. This is why we are selling our old Bus. I guess it's time to pass on the torch so to speak. Good luck with your bids and we are hoping for a loving family for our Bus. |

VW worker killed in robot accident
Wed, Jul 1 2015A 21-year-old worker died from injuries after being struck by the robot that he was installing at Volkswagen's factory in Kassel, Germany. According to The Financial Times, the man was inside the safety cage surrounding the machine when he was hit in the chest and pressed against a metal plate. Emergency crews took him to a local hospital, where he died. That man's name hasn't been released, but he was reportedly a third-party contractor, rather than a direct employee of VW. A second person was also installing the robot when the accident happened. This individual was farther away and wasn't harmed, according to The Financial Times. The local newspaper reported that the incident took place in a part of the plant used for producing electric motors. The local prosecutor has opened an investigation into whether there was any negligence involved. According to Volkswagen, the Kassel factory is one of its main hubs of transmission production and employs around 15,500 people. The motors and batteries for the e-Up and e-Golf are also made there. In 2008, VW built its one-millionth DSG gearbox at the plant. Related Video:
VW considering single, cheaper li-ion cell for all plug-in vehicle batteries
Wed, Apr 22 2015Volkswagen is finding rapid success in the battery electric vehicle market; especially in Europe where the e-Golf is already the segment sales leader. Recent concepts like the C Coupe GTE, Sport Coupe GTE and Cross Coupe GTE suggest more plug-in hybrids from the company are on the way, too. To make future models more economical, the German automotive giant is considering switching to a standard design for its lithium-ion battery cells. Using standardized parts is a long-accepted principle in production because it leads to economies of scale, and a company can pass on the savings to buyers or pocket the money to boost profits. VW is aiming for a massive 66-percent drop in costs by switching to a unified design, according to Heinz-Jakob Neusser, the board member in charge of development, to Automotive News. While the cells would be uniform, they could be crafted into different modules to fit each specific model. VW currently buys cells from Panasonic and Samsung for various models, but under the new plan all of the automaker's brands would switch to a single one. "We have a clear understanding in the group of a common cell," Neusser said, according to Automotive News, without suggesting when a change might happen. VW also has a few months decide on a different future for its EVs. The automaker is reportedly considering whether to use sold-state lithium-ion batteries from a US-based supplier for upcoming models. The next-gen tech could potentially give a massive boost in range while also being fireproof.
