Up for auction today we have a 1974 Volkswagen Westfalia Campmobile.  This bus had the engine rebuilt 5 or 6 years ago and was then parked due to leaky heat exchangers.  The engine is very clean and looks to be fairly fresh.  When the engine was rebuilt it was upgraded to a 2.0 Liter.  We recently had all the fuel lines replaced and the carbs rebuilt.  The bus starts right up and runs good once its warm.  The battery has also been replaced within the last 30 days.  The brakes work well but have not been gone through by us.  The front has disc brakes and the rears are drums.  The interior on this bus is in very respectable condition.  We sent it to a professional detail shop right after we got it and it cleaned up very nice.  The upper bunk area pads are missing but the rest of the interior is there.  The canvas top has some holes in it as shown in the photos where mice chewed through the top.  The curtain rods and curtains are there but are not shown in the photos.  The curtains are in OK shape but have some holes and water stains.  The gas gauge is not currently working.  The front rubber floor mat is also missing.  The bus has the matching footstool and childs cot that mounts over the front seats.  This is a running driving project that still needs some work to be nice.  There is a fair amount of rust in the outer rocker panels but the floors and structure of the frame are solid.  Take a good look at the photos as we have tried to photograph the good, the bad and the ugly.  Should be no surprises on this one.  The heat exchangers on this bus seem to be leaking.  We attempted to hook up the heater but there was a lot of exhaust coming in with the heat.  There is also a lot of smoke that seems to be coming up through the air inlet when the bus is stopped.  I believe this smoke is coming from the leaks in the heat exchangers.   We haven't tested any of the camper accessories.  Bid with confidence and bid to win.  We are happy to help on our end with International buyers but shipping costs and arrangement are the responsibility of the buyer.  We realize it may take a couple weeks to arrange your shipping and can store the bus inside our warehouse until you get your shipping worked out.  Thanks for checking out our auction and good luck bidding. Check below for a youtube video tour of the bus.  Please feel free to call with any questions you have about the bus.  Jeremy. (208)200-6053

2014 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible gets the R-Line treatment

Thu, 07 Feb 2013

Volkswagen just launched the topless Beetle Convertible at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November, but we're already seeing the next step forward in the topless Bug range with this, the R-Line. We'll admit, this treatment falls under the "all show and no go" category, but it's still a pretty potent little cutie.
The R-Line starts with a standard Beetle Turbo Convertible but adds unique 19-inch aluminum wheels on lower-profile tires, LED daytime running lamps and Xenon headlamps. Naturally, there are R-Line badges aplenty both on the interior and exterior, and we must say, the whole package looks pretty darn snazzy.
Pricing has yet to be announced, but when it goes on sale later this year, the hotter convertible will join Volkswagen's growing R-Line portfolio that now includes the CC, Beetle hatch, Tiguan and Touareg.

Winterkorn kept diesel scandal secret, letter claims

Tue, Mar 1 2016

Former Volkswagen Group CEO Martin Winterkorn allegedly kept quiet for two weeks about emissions defeat devices in the company's models. US officials eventually made the automaker's deception public on September 18th. "In the conversation on 03.09.2015 with the regulator CARB (California Air Resources Board), the defeat device was admitted," an employee told Winterkorn on September 4, according to Reuters citing Germany's Bild am Sonntag. Based on this information, Winterkorn had plenty of time to admit the problem. Evidence like this letter continues to suggest top figures knew about the emissions problem. In addition, a separate Bild am Sonntag report recently claimed that an employee emailed Winterkorn in May 2014 to tell him US regulators could discover the cheating. In the lower echelons of the company, the deception was allegedly an open secret among engineers as early as 2006, and people kept quiet even after workers tried to admit what was happening. This culture of secrecy seems to go even deeper than just the diesel emissions scandal. For example, engineers admitted that they cheated on CO2 tests to meet the company's strict standards. According to Green Car Reports, these problems also affected the US. In 2004, an Audi worker in America allegedly discovered an issue with the exhaust gas temperature sensor in some vehicles, but a German executive said not to admit the problem to US regulators. It's not clear whether any high level employees tried to fix the diesel emissions issue or if they simply kept the problem hidden. The company's internal report, which is due in the latter half of April, might address that concern. So far, the VW Group has said only a small group of people caused the scandal. However, these many allegations to the contrary make that claim difficult to believe. Related Video:

Yes, a family of 5 can live in a 1981 VW Westfalia van

Fri, Feb 14 2014

Automakers and marketers trying to reach environmentally conscious consumers who desire the simple life basically have two strategies: promote electric vehicles that can be charged through green energy or sell a 30-year-old Volkswagen van on Craigslist. Nicolas Boullosa and Kirsten Dirksen opted for Plan B and turned a 1981 Volkswagen Westfalia camper into a "micro-living" experiment. The co-founders of the simple living website faircompanies packed up their van and three young children for a road trip through the Pacific Northwest. They even turned the adventure into a documentary called Summer of (Family) Love, which you can view below. It's two hours long, so maybe add this to your weekend viewing list. They limited themselves to one backpack per person into a camper that they purchased off Craigslist and named "Westy." They stuck to their original intention of cooking all their own meals off a propane stove, creating a new little home every night in a different location, mostly spaces outside RV parks. They met up with other enthusiasts of the "tiny house" community who live like nomads. They were able to interview a few of then and, "With each stop we picked up some new piece of wisdom about life's essentials," Dirksen wrote in the faircompanies blog.
