1969 Vw Westfalia Pop Top, Montana Red on 2040-cars
Scotts Valley, California, United States

1969 Volkswagen Westfalia bus, walk thru, small pop top. The bus has all the original Westfalia interior which is in great condition. It is missing the ice box/ sink. The Z-bed, jump seat and rear cushions have all new foam and were professionally reupholstered in very soft black "pleather." They look terrific and have no rips or flaws. The cargo floor area has no rust and was covered in bamboo flooring. The bus has aftermarket curtains that are very heavy fabric, made for this bus so they fit excellent, and have a great pattern that ties into the colors of the bus. The front seats were recovered with TMI covers and are also in excellent shape with no rips or flaws. The front floors are solid with no rust through whatsoever. The bus has a Pioneer CD/ MP3 player with four JL Audio speakers. The bus has new 205/75/14 tires all around and the factory rims were repainted factory white. New spare tire cover as well. The bus was just repainted the original Volkswagen Montana Red PPG urethane paint on the exterior. There is no rust on the bus and it has never been in a collision. The interior is still the original paint. The bus was originally all red, but is had been painted two tone at some point in it's life. So I had the upper half repainted with VW white, when they painted the Montana Red. The pop top was also painted at that time. The red with the white really stands out. The pop top has a new rubber seal. All of the doors and rear hatch/ engine lid has new rubber. The front and rear window also has new rubber. The bus has new lenses and rubber around the lenses. The pop top canvas is in excellent condition. There is a dime sized tear in the canvas and the front screen has a rip. However, the screen covers are perfect. The motor is a 1835cc with dual 44mm Brosol/ Solex carbs and has a header with single quiet pack muffler. It was just tuned by a VW shop in Santa Cruz. All of the cylinders have compression over 100. The mileage for the bus shows 75,000, but it is unknown what the true mileage is. The motor was in the bus when I bought it and the previous owner told me it had about 6000 miles on it. I have put less than 500 miles on it since I have had it. Transmission shifts very well and it does not pop out of any gears. It still has the factory reduction boxes. The bus is currently registered and I have a clear California title in my name. The bus is in great condition overall and is ready for the summer! I mostly drive it to the beach on weekends and campout once in awhile and it always gets tons of attention! |

Get ready to Camino-ize your fourth-generation VW Jetta with this kit
Tue, 05 Aug 2014Inexpensive, small pickup trucks used to be everywhere in the US, whether they were from Japanese brands like Datsun or Toyota, the truly weird Subaru Brat or even from Europe with the Volkswagen Caddy based on the Golf. These days that market has completely disappeared, but if you're willing to pick up some tools to build your own, there's a company out there bringing the Caddy back as a kit for the Jetta.
Mark Smith knows a thing about building a vehicle at home. He has over two decades in the DIY-car business as a co-founder of Local Motors and the company that became Factory Five Racing. His latest venture is Smyth Performance and already offers a mid-engine, VW-based kit called the G3F. His new product, though, started as a fluke. "I just wanted a shop truck," said Smith to Autoblog. He already had a Ford F-450 but found that he was driving around with the bed empty most of the time. The result was a pickup truck based on the fourth-generation Jetta that he dubbed the Ute.
The kit retails for $3,500 and ships in three, big boxes, and it's designed to be built and painted in a weekend. Buyers get fiberglass exterior panels, a fiberglass rear window surround, sliding rear window, an aluminum reinforced bed with a tubular steel subframe, taillights, a fully functional steel tailgate, and other parts. In the end, you get a vehicle with a six-foot bed and a payload of around 700-750 pounds. The Ute maintains all of the factory suspension, fuel tank and emissions equipment and requires just a few cuts in the body to complete. "We did a modern Caddy," admits Smith.
Meet ZelectricBug, the amazing '63 VW Bug converted to EV power
Thu, Feb 27 2014No word a lie, we here at AutoblogGreen are fans of classic cars. What we are not fond of, however, is the pollution that their inefficient engines create, and so it's great to see our old favorites lovingly up-cycled with electric drivetrains. The ZelectricBug is a beautiful example of how new, cleaner life can be breathed into an old Volkswagen Beetle. Now, we first came across this particular automobile during the Refuel event last summer and we were struck by its cleanly done conversion then. Aside from a few snaps in our gallery, though, we didn't give it the kind of attention it deserves. Fortunately, the good folks over at Roads and Rides have rectified this by turning their pro video camera skills onto the 1963 V-Dub and producing a nice little segment to accompany their write up. Scroll below to see the finished footage and head over to their website for some stills. If all this gives you a hankering for your own Zelectric, the company does have plans to sell to the public starting this summer. If you don't want to wait, EV West, the guys who did the drivetrain work on this car, have conversion kits available for Beetles, as well as a number of other vehicles. Recharge Wrap-up: New Mitsubishi Evo PHEV, Amsterdam buses go all electric by 2025
Thu, Apr 30 2015Mitsubishi hopes to launch a new vehicle badged as the Evo based on the Concept XR-PHEV II. Mitsubishi President and COO Tetsuro Aikawa tells Autocar the new vehicle will share characteristics with the outgoing Lancer Evolution loved by enthusiasts, but will feature a plug-in hybrid powertrain in the body of a compact crossover. "In Japanese, when you pronounce 'Oh,' it means 'king,'" says Aikawa. "So we would like to launch this type of car, featuring EV and PHEV technology, which is the ultimate of its kind. 'EV' for electric vehicle, 'O' for king - Evo." The Mitsu boss also envisions the four-wheel-drive Evo to be "light and fast - something performance-oriented." Read more at Autocar, or at Hybrid Cars. Amsterdam aims to have all its buses running on electric power by 2025. Within two years, the city will have 40 electric buses in operation, and will phase out the rest of the diesel fleet in the following years. "This project means we are saying goodbye to symbolic behavior and pilot projects," says transport alderman Abdeluheb Choho. "We have decided to just do it, not to experiment with five buses." Read more at Clean Technica. BMW and General Motors are both listed in the top five US organizations generating and using green energy onsite. In an EPA list, BMW's Spartanburg, South Carolina manufacturing facility is number four, with credit going to its use of landfill gas. In 2013, 69,383,477 kWh - or 37 percent of its total usage - came from green energy. GM's Fort Wayne Assembly was number five, with 43 percent of its power coming from methane from a nearby landfill. Volkwsagen also made the Top 30 list, at number 15, for its Chattanooga assembly plant's use of solar power. See the EPA's full list, and read more at Green Car Congress. Volkswagen will release its 2014 sustainability report on Twitter on Monday, May 4. It will be the first step in using the social medium to distribute information on economic, environmental and social sustainability to a larger audience. The report will include a section called "Electrifying China with a tailor-made efficiency strategy," which focuses on reducing CO2 emissions through the use of electric vehicles. Volkswagen has already begun releasing highlights from its report on its Twitter account with the hashtag #VWCSR. Read more in the press release below and, of course, on Twitter next week.
