I am selling my 1969 VW Bus. It is a nice bus. Lots of compliments on it. Overall, I think it is in better condition than most of them out there. I have always been fascinated with them, and had to buy this one.
I have redone most of the interior on it. It has all new carpet and all new panels. Before I put the new carpet in, I sealed the entire floor with undercoating/rubber. Everything has been reupholstered. New Visors are installed. New radio. I also put a brand new Baltic Birch wood roof in it. I put new polished wheels and tires on it. Very few miles on these. At the time, I put undercoating in the wheel wells, so they look great. The bus originally had a pop up roof in the center. A roof was cut from another bus and riveted on this one. Most people dont even notice it. So, it looks like a cross between a transporter and camper. Obviously, it can be camped in still, as it has the bed and closet, yet it doesnt have the hassle of a leaking pop up tent. Mechanically, it is a sound bus and runs great. It was owned by a vintage VW mechanic before me. The gauges all work. I want to be as clear as I can, so here are my critiques: -I just installed new heater cables. They need to be attached at the heater boxes. -The paint looks pretty good, but I don't think it got the best paint job prep in the world. There are a few placed where there is a little surface rust under the paint. See the pictures. I gave an example. -There is a dent in the rear passengers quarter panel. That's the closet side, so its hard to see from. I have had quotes of $200-600 to fix it. Not a big deal. I would probably just spray the white half of the bus when this is fixed, and that would eliminate 90% of the paint issues I mentioned. -A few of the window gaskets could used replacement. The ones that I would do are the 2 front windows. They are $35 each. It has around 103,000 miles according to the odometer. It is a blast to drive. I prefer that the buyer pick it up in person and pay cash. This way, there is no doubts or surprises. It can be shipped at the owners arrangement and expense. Tanner Foust drifts Rockstar Passat around US Cycling TT course
Fri, May 22 2015The USA Cycling Time Trials take place on Saturday in Chattanooga, TN. That's also where Volkswagen has its US headquarters. So in honor of the event, VW decided to have a little fun involving Tanner Foust and a 900-horsepower Rockstar Drift car. That's a 900-hp Passat, by the way. Pro cyclist Tim Johnson rides along with Foust, showing him the intricacies of the cycling TT course. But of course, with a 900-hp drift car at his disposal, Foust makes use of roundabouts and turnaround points to do what he does best. We won't spoil the rest of the short, minute-and-fifteen-second video posted above. But if you like smoky drifts from super-modified midsize sedans, this clip is for you.
ACEEE strips away VW's green car scores
Sun, Sep 27 2015The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) is confirming that the Volkswagen diesel-emissions scandal has put a black mark on its green ratings. As a result, the group is pulling VW diesel vehicles off of its "Green Scores" list because it was recently revealed that VW diesels might be emitting as much as 40 times the nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions during normal driving as the official test results show. The ACEEE added that other German makers of diesel vehicles' "Green Scores" are safe, for now. Diesels from VW and the company's Audi division didn't exacatly top the ACEEE's list of greenest vehicles for 2015. That honor went to electric vehicles like the Smart ForTwo ED, Chevrolet Spark EV and Fiat 500E. The Toyota Prius C hybrid snuck in at number 4, while the Nissan Leaf battery-electric took the fifth spot. That said, the VW diesels did perform pretty well, according to the group. "These scores are no longer reasonable estimations of the environmental impact of the Volkswagen diesels. Volkswagen's diesel cars have performed well on ACEEE's annual rankings since 2009, hovering just below our list of the top twelve "Greenest" vehicles with Green Scores in the high 40s," wrote Shruti Vaidyanathan, senior transportation researcher at the ACEEE. "However, a 40-fold increase in on-road NOx would mean that these vehicles did not deserve those high Green Scores." For those curious, the Ram 2500 pickup topped the ACEEE's "Meanest" vehicle of 2015, followed by the Chevrolet G2500 Express/GMC Savana. No diesels showed up on that list of environmentally-damaging vehicles. You can read the ACEEE's statement on VW below. Why we are suspending Volkswagen diesel Green Scores on greenercars.org by Shruti Vaidyanathan, Senior Transportation Researcher On September 18th, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) slapped the Volkswagen Group with a notice of violation (link is external) of the Clean Air Act for circumventing EPA emission standards for nitrogen oxides (NOx). Volkswagen has now acknowledged using so-called "defeat devices" on its diesel cars that turn on full emissions control technologies while in testing mode but allow the vehicles to emit nitrogen oxide levels up to 40 times the certified level during normal operation.
VW consumer site finally gets configurator tool back
Tue, Mar 10 2015The traditional vehicle configurator is back on the Volkswagen US consumer website, and it works very well. The company now lets visitors create a virtual model to their own specs and then search for a match among dealer inventories, as is the norm from most automakers. Last summer, Volkswagen tried to break the mold with its thoroughly redesigned consumer website in the US. It sported a slick design but made the highly controversial change of removing the configurator. Instead, visitors were narrowing their selection from a searchable database of models already at dealers. While the streamlined approach immediately told users if their desired car was available, the system also largely hid the prices for options and packages. The newly tweaked design retains the previous tablet-oriented layout, but after clicking a model, the site immediately offers "Build Yours." From there, visitors select a trim, and then the vehicle pops up with options to choose things like colors and packages. The whole layout is clean, features large buttons and works quickly. At the summary page, there's still the opportunity to search for the user's choice in dealer inventories. This is definitely a major improvement.
