1968 Vw Bus With Sundial Conversion on 2040-cars
Lake Havasu City, Arizona, United States
|
A Factory Original Sundial! Almost everything on this vehicle is from the factory or Sundial. All of the interior, paint, windows, trim, engine, transmission and even the spare tire is original. This bus has only had two owners and stored in a garage for its entirety. This beauty has been meticulously maintained over its lifetime and now it is time to pass it on to someone who can continue to do the same. I have most maintenance records from the first oil change to the original owner's manual and dealership brochures.
EXTERIOR: There is some body damage that was done years ago. The sliding door was backed into in New Mexico in 1978, I believe. There is a "kink" in the door but it still slides, latches and seals. The left rear quarter panel hit a trash can in Washington in the late 80's. The repair that was done is fine but they had a hard time matching the paint. The brakes, shocks and bearings will need to be done soon but are still in drivable condition. I just installed brand new tires, spark plugs and performed an oil change. The body is rust free. All of the door locks work and are keyed the same as the ignition. The lights, seals and windshield wipers are in excellent condition. And the glass is in great shape and, I believe, factory original. INTERIOR: There are a few flaws in the interior. There is a small 1/2" tear in the headliner and the "vinyl" on the firewall is starting to de-lam. Other than that, the interior is perfect. The dash is rot free with fully working controls, the wood in the camper is in good shape and the floor has been covered since the early 70's. The pump for the sink works. I even have the factory jack! All of the decals that came from the factory are still in place. This 46 year old VW that has less than 100,000 miles on it and has been to every state in the continental U.S. except two! On Apr-29-14 at 08:54:49 PDT, seller added the following information: Addendum 4/29/14 - Upon closer inspection, there is a slight gap in the upper left corner of the sliding door when closed. It does fully close and latch, but is not completely sealed. There is also an oil drip, but no major leaks. The carburetor was just rebuilt and the bus has its original oil-bath aircleaner. |

Foreign automakers pay from $38 to $65 per hour to non-union workers
Sun, Mar 29 2015As leaders for the United Auto Workers gather in Detroit for their Special Convention on Collective Bargaining to work out the negotiating stance for this year's new labor agreements with the Detroit 3 automakers, what they most want to do is figure out how to eliminate the two-tier wage scale. However, the lower Tier 2 wage has allowed the domestic automakers to reduce their labor costs, hire more workers, and compete better with their import competition. As it stands, per-hour labor rates including benefits are $58 at General Motors, $57 at Ford, and $48 at Fiat-Chrysler – a reflection of FCA's much greater number of Tier 2 workers. The Center for Automotive Research released a study of labor rates (including benefits) that put numbers to what the imports pay: Mercedes-Benz pays the most, at an average of $65 per hour, Volkswagen pays the least, at $38 per hour, and BMW is just a hair above that at $39 per hour. Among the Detroit competitors, Honda workers earn an average of $49 per hour, at Toyota it's $48 per hour, Nissan is $42 per hour, and Hyundai-Kia pays $41 per hour. The lower import wages are aided by their greater use of temporary workers compared to the domestics. Automotive News says the ten-dollar gap between those foreign camakers and the domestics turns out to about an extra $250 per car in labor, which adds up quickly when you're pumping out many millions of cars. That $250-per-car number is one that, come negotiating time, the Detroit 3 will want to reduce, as the UAW is trying to raise both Tier 1 and Tier 2 wages. Another wrinkle is that the domestic carmakers are considering the wide adoption of a third wage level lower than Tier 2. Some workers who do minor tasks like assembling parts trays kits and battery packs already make less than Tier 2, but the UAW will be quite wary about cementing yet another wage scale at the bottom of the system while it's trying to fight a bigger battle at the top. VW outsells GM in China for first time in 8 years
Fri, 26 Oct 2012In case you didn't know, Volkswagen is hell-bent on becoming the largest automaker in the world. The German carmaker has inched closer to that goal, having outsold General Motors in China last quarter for the first time in eight years.
Volkswagen's sales in China, its largest marker, increased by 21 percent last quarter to 704,991 units. Those numbers almost tripled GM's third-quarter growth, and were enough to beat out the American automaker's 664,765 sales. GM, however, still leads in year-to-date sales in China by a slim margin of around 77,000 units. The Asian nation also happens to be GM's largest market, and according to the report in Automotive News, China's car market may grow to be larger than the US, Japan and Germany combined in three years' time.
About the news his company was bested in China by VW last quarter, GM CEO Dan Akerson is quoted saying, "It's not whether you're the biggest car manufacturer. It's whether you want to be the most profitable." It should be noted of these figures that GM includes truck figures, yet excludes Hong Kong and Macau from its Chinese sales numbers, while VW does just the opposite. Through September of this year, Volkswagen had 5 of the 10 best selling vehicles in China. GM boasted three of the cars on that list.
VW updates Scirocco with revised styling, new engines
Sun, 16 Feb 2014The Scirocco is undoubtedly one of the better-looking models in the Volkswagen lineup, but introduced back in 2008, it's now been on the market - some markets, anyway - for the better part of six years. VW is said to have an all-new replacement in the works, but before that arrives, the German automaker has announced a facelifted version with revised styling and a new engine lineup.
Set to be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show next month, the new Scirocco benefits from updated styling front and rear, high-tech exterior lighting, a revised cabin space with some throwback retro touches, some new technologies and, of course, an array of fresh wheel options ranging from 17 to 19 inches.
The updated Scirocco will be offered with a wide array of engines right from the get-go, including four gasoline options and two diesels, spanning from 125 horsepower all the way up to the 280-hp Scirocco R. The 2014 model hits European showrooms in August, but unfortunately isn't any more likely to make the transatlantic voyage Stateside than the version it replaces. Still interested? There's plenty to see in the high-res image gallery above and details in the press release below.
