Twenty years ago I had the grand plan of buying this 68 bus to help with my newly formed cleaning company.  As I grew out of the bus I couldn’t get past the fact that I loved it, so I kept it and drove it on weekends.  It seemed at every light people were always pointing or talking about it.   I knew I had to hold on to it and figure in twenty years or so I would fix it up and sell it for a split window, my dream bus.

Well, the twenty years are up and the chance of me fixing it up are slim to none so I have decided to sell it to the forth owner and let them have the pleasure of fixing up this gem, have some fun and possibly make some money when the time comes.

It has it all, original owner's manual and jack, pop top, foldout bed, cot above sliding door, child’s cot over front seats, refrigerator or ice box, sink and cutting table, table, closet with mirror on closet door, extra seat behind drivers seat, foot rest, along with a list of things making this a true get.

I will not lie, it does have some issues which I did my best to show them all in the pictures and will try to explain below:

A few rust spots under both bay window

The biggest rust spot is right in front of the driver’s front seat

There are a couple of dents, that are reachable so could be easily fixed

One of the racks on the top is broken but easily fixed

Does not have the original paint job and does have a few scratches

Both door mirrors are either cracked or glass is gone

The pop up needs new canvas as well as the top cot

The engine was rebuilt right before the gear shift linkage went out which is what put it in the garage.  I’m not sure what the issue is on the linkage, the shifter itself could have just pulled out for all I know

The last time it drove was in 1999 at Texas Motor Speedway on the infield when the linkage went out.  At that point, the engine was working great it just wouldn't go into gears, so we towed it home and it has been in the garage ever since

No battery

All of these issues are easy fixes, it’s just going to take some time and money of which I have neither.  After all of these years it has very little rust on it, with only surface rust on the under carriage and the few spots shown in the pictures.  As mention before, this vehicle has been a riot to own and I hate to let her go but it is time as its life is not over and my wife will finally be able to park her car in the garage.

I have gotten to know the bus family since owning one and I’m sure this one will find a good home and get the face lift it has always wanted and needed.

10 automakers sued over keyless ignitions

Thu, Aug 27 2015

Keyless ignition has rapidly proliferated throughout the auto industry to become a fairly normal feature on new cars. It's supposed to offer the convenience of keeping the fob in your pocket and just pressing a button to drive away. However, ten major automakers are now being sued in US District Court over claims that the system is dangerous, Reuters reports. The suit alleges that people are forgetting to shut off the engine, and the lack of an idle timer is the cause for 13 deaths by carbon monoxide poisoning and multiple injuries. The suit currently includes 28 plaintiffs, according to Reuters, but the lawyers are asking for class-action status to potentially add many more. The case goes after a major swath of the industry, including BMW, Daimler, FCA, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Nissan, Toyota, and Volkswagen, plus their related brands like Acura, Infiniti, Mini, and Lexus. In all, over five million vehicles are affected. The assertion here is that people walk away from their vehicle without shutting it off because they believe the engine shuts off automatically. If parked in a garage, carbon monoxide can build up, leading to poisoning. The lawyers claim automakers know this is a problem and also cite 27 complaints to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration about the issue, according to Reuters. The plaintiffs are asking for an automatic shut-off and damages from the companies. These concerns have come up before, though. Toyota previously faced a lawsuit over a carbon monoxide death after a woman accidentally left her Lexus running. Also earlier this year, GM recalled 64,186 examples of the 2011-2013 Chevrolet Volt because owners weren't shutting them off. The problem resulted in two injuries, and the company released a software update to limit the idling time.

VW Super Bowl teaser with Jimmy Cliff is like a less-mean Tosh.0 Web Redemption

Thu, 24 Jan 2013

Reggae super-duper-star and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Jimmy Cliff has been using music to send positive vibes out into the universe for decades now, so its no surprise that his message on behalf of Volkswagen is one of redemption.
Dubbed Sunny Side, this web-spot is VW's warmup of sorts for what promises to be another blockbuster year in the world of Super Bowl commercials. Without giving away the game, the euphonious commercial sees Cliff opening his arms and his heart to some YouTube 'celebrities' that might see courser treatment from the likes of Tosh.0, for instance. We can't help but be reminded of Coca-Cola's legendary 1971 Hilltop spot with the "I'd like to buy the world a Coke" lyric, too.
Enjoy the pre-Super Bowl VW spot below, and don't forget to pay it forward... your karma will thank you. For those of you that just can't get enough of commercial-making magic, we've included a "making-of" video, as well.

VW sets aside $7.3B war chest for diesel scandal fallout

Tue, Sep 22 2015

The crisis enveloping Volkswagen AG, the world's top-selling carmaker, escalated Tuesday as the company issued a profit warning following a stunning admission that some 11 million of its diesel vehicles worldwide were fitted with software at the center of a US emissions scandal. The German company said it was setting aside around 6.5 billion euros ($7.3 billion) to cover the fallout from the scandal that has tarnished VW's reputation, raised questions over the future of CEO Martin Winterkorn and battered its share price. The reputational damage to Volkswagen is implicit in the market's response. Volkswagen's share price slid a further 16.2 percent Tuesday to a near four-year low of 112 euros. The fall comes on top of Monday's 17 percent decline. The shockwaves from the scandal enveloping Volkswagen were being felt far and wide across the sector as traders wondered who else may get embroiled. Germany's Daimler AG, the maker of Mercedes-Benz cars, was down 6.5 percent, while BMW AG fell 5.4 percent. France's Renault SA was seven percent lower. The scandal is hugely damaging to a business that relies heavily on a hard-won reputation for quality and trustworthiness. "Brands are all about trust and it takes years and years to develop. But in the space of 24 hours, Volkswagen has gone from one people could trust to one people don't know what to think of," said Nigel Currie, an independent UK-based sponsorship and branding consultant. The trigger to the company's market woes was last Friday's revelation from the US's Environmental Protection Agency that VW rigged nearly half a million cars to defeat US smog tests. The company then admitted that it intentionally installed software programmed to switch engines to a cleaner mode during official emissions testing. The software then switches off again, enabling cars to drive more powerfully on the road while emitting as much as 40 times the legal pollution limit. "We have totally screwed up." - Michael Horn "In my German words: we have totally screwed up," the head of Volkswagen's US division, Michael Horn, told an audience in New York on Monday. In its statement Tuesday, Volkswagen gave more details, admitting that there were "discrepancies" related to vehicles with Type EA 189 engines and involving some 11 million vehicles worldwide. The number of vehicles involved is more than the 10 million or so cars it sold in 2014.
