Beautifully Restored 1966 21 Window Deluxe Micro Bus. This bus was originally the promotional bus for the Mervyn's department store chain in California. It was during their ownership that the bus had a frame off restoration and was transported by trailer and outfitted with big sound system and driven in parades, etc. I bought the bus from them in 2007 just prior to their 2008 closure and immediatly had it flatbedded to Automotive Restorations Inc in Stratford CT for an updated mechanical review replacing every belt, filter, gasket, seal, lube in addition to having the Weber carburators removed and rebuilt. In 2009 I had the bus repainted Caribbean Blue with Arctic White roof. The interior was reupolstered with Bright White seats with Caribbean Blue piping. This bus is a real showstopper as well as an excellent driver. Cruises easily along the highway at 70-75. I had seat belts installed in all seven seats.

Engine:

-New (at my purchase) 1915cc high performance dual Weber carburated engine installed during the Mervyn's ownership. As of my putchase there was 12,124 miles on the odemetor, very low as bus was primarly transported by trailer.

-Lightened flywheel, counterweighted crankshaft, engine parts fully electronically balanced, big valve heads, solid rocker shaft assembly, swivel feet valve adjustors.

-Header exhaust, flowmaster muffler (heater boxes removed during Mervyn's restoration, I never drove in cold weather so didn't reinstall).

Front Suspension and Brakes:

-3 1/2 inch drop spindles

-Genuine Porsche front disc brakes

Rear Suspension and Brakes:

-Swing axle lowering kit with removal of reduction gear boxes

-Late Type I brakes drilled for Porsche pattern wheels

Body:

- Excellent condition all around with 1 chip on the engine hood and a small blister on front roof just above passenger window. Both very easy touch up items. See photos. Gas gauge needs either replacement or needs wire reattached.

Storage: This bus has been in seasonally heated or air conditioned climate controlled automotive storage since I have owned. I was told by the Mervyn's rep that it was indoor stored and was meticulously maintained during their ownership. The bus is started and driven on a regular basis to keep everything in proper condition.

Volkswagen Golf R 400 Concept is a 201-mph hot hatch

This, friends, is what happens when you shoehorn 395 horsepower into a Golf. You get a three-door hatch that will happily scurry to 62 miles per hour in 3.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 201 mph. Oh yes, we like you, Golf R 400 Concept.
As we explained in our original post, the R 400 is the long-awaited successor to bonkers Golf creations like the GTI W12 from 2007 and, more recently, the Design Vision GTI. It's powered by the same 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder found in a number of Volkswagen (and Audi, SEAT and Skoda) products, although it's been heavily massaged to pump out 332 pound-feet of torque along side its amplified horsepower.
Naturally, it's been lowered and now rides on 19-inch wheels. Outside of those changes, though, mums the word on suspension and chassis enhancements. While this is a bummer, the striking looks of the Golf R 400 more than make up for it.

Skoda racing Up! to Worthersee with Citigo Rally concept

If you thought the Volkswagen Group was about to wind down the endless stream of concept cars based on the new Up! city car, think again. Because not only is the Volkswagen brand itself keeping the train a-moving, so are its sister brands.
Skoda has its own version of the Up called the Citigo. But what racing fans know the Czech subsidiary for best is its rally program that has become a dominant force in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge and the basis for VW's own foray into the World Rally Championship. Now Skoda is bringing the two together with an exciting concept car previewed by the rendering above and confirmed in the press release below.
Following in the footsteps of the tantalizing Fabia roadster unveiled last year, the Citigo Rally concept is to be the centerpiece of the Skoda display at the Volkswagen Group's annual hot-hatch gathering at Lake Wörthersee in Austria. Details are scarce, but the show car will feature rally-inspired bodywork complete with 18-inch white alloys packed into aggressively flared wheel arches, a substantial rear wing and vents aplenty.
