1965 11-window Vw Microbus on 2040-cars

I have owned this 1965 VW microbus since 1973. I purchased it in Southern California. At the time of purchase vehicle mileage was 98, 822 miles. Chassis VIN# is 225026475 and engine # is H0540325 (at time of purchase). Since 1980 it has been parked inside my garage. Since 2006 this bus has been registered as inoperable with the California DMV. It is now registered as operable and drivable. I have rebuilt the engine twice (1974 & 1986) and installed a rebuilt transmission in 1979. During the first engine rebuild I cut an access window into the engine compartment (see photos) to make working on the engine easier. Over time I have installed an external oil cooler, external oil filter, electric fuel pump, a 019 distributor and a 12v alternator and new front floor mat. I replaced the original gas tank with a 16 gal tank. I have replaced the reduction boxes bearings. In 1974 I cut a walk way through the bulkhead behind the front seats to have better access to the inside of the bus for camping purposes. In 2013, I repaired this damage with a replacement bulkhead that I riveted to the existing bulkhead pieces (see photos). I planned on restoring this bus but my funds slowly were used for home improvement projects. I have decided to sell my bus to someone who hopefully will restore it to its former glory. I have kept a maintenance diary of all the work I have done on this vehicle from 1973 to 2014. The picture of the front of the bus shows primer where I welded closed the holes that held the spare tire holder. I have taken numerous pictures of before and after for just about all the restoration work I have done. I repaired 2 areas on the cargo floor (where seats bolt to floor). Most of the outside primer areas are where I sanded out deep gouges in the paint, removed rust, reworked old body filler areas (4 small accident damage areas) with new body filler. I have lots of the old parts (009 distributor, Solex 30PICT 1 carburetor, mechanical fuel pump, 2 hub caps, 2 side vent scoops, misc nuts and bolts. New parts not installed on vehicle include a clutch cable, a battery floor plate and cargo door rubber stopper. I have not been able to loosen the rear wheel hub nuts. I have original copy of my first California registration card dated 9/1/1973. This vehicle is sold as is. |

Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Mercedes also under diesel emissions scrutiny
Sat, Oct 10 2015The controversy over Volkswagen's diesel emissions scandal isn't limited to the US. In Europe, where diesel engines are far more popular, the issue is shining a harsh light on the NEDC emissions test. As already known, the evaluation does a poor job of reflecting real-world production of NOx, and it appears a significant number of automakers are affected. The Guardian in the UK has been reporting on real-world test results from a company called Emissions Analytics. After the latest round of checks, vehicles from Mercedes-Benz, Honda, Mazda and Mitsubishi were found to generate far more NOx than they should. The newspaper also published similar results for Renault, Nissan, Hyundai, Fiat, Volvo, Jeep, Citroen, VW, and Audi. On average, the figures are about four times over the limit of producing the pollutant. Unlike VW and its defeat device, these automakers aren't actually breaking the rules. The vehicles perform up to the NEDC lab test for emissions, but those results simply aren't translated to the street. "The VW issue in the US was purely the trigger which threw light on a slightly different problem in the EU - widespread legal over-emissions," Nick Molden from Emissions Analytics said to The Guardian. A big fight to decide the future of this issue appears to be on the horizon. Automakers claim that they can't meet the next round of tightening emissions regulations and are asking for compromises. Although, spokespeople for Mercedes and Honda told The Guardian that the brands would be in favor of the stricter rules. Meanwhile, some European governments began backtracking their support of diesels well before this scandal came to light. The added scrutiny certain hasn't helped the future of the oil-burner. VW pulls Lamborghini and Bentley from the Paris Motor Show
Tue, Sep 20 2016It's been slightly more than a year since the news that Volkswagen had intentionally cheated on diesel emissions testing broke. Since then, the company's reputation and image have suffered and it has struggled to regain its footing and composure. The automaker is shelling out billions in fines, so cost cutting is inevitable. Today, Reuters reports that Volkswagen subsidiaries Lamborghini and Bentley won't bring their elaborate displays to the Paris Motor Show next week. Auto shows can cost automakers millions of dollars, especially for supercar and luxury car brands that constantly try to compete and one-up with each other. Much of the money and fanfare goes to catering the media, and if an automaker has nothing new to reveal it can be difficult to justify the expense. The company told Reuters that it plans to attend smaller events that focus more on potential buyers. The Volkswagen group as a whole has shifted it's focus, both when it comes to products and auto shows like Paris. Next week, the automaker will be focusing on electric vehicles and electromobility. The company plans to reveal a new EV with 373 miles of range, eclipsing both the Tesla Model 3 and Chevy Bolt. Volkswagen has plans for 30 new electric vehicles by 2025. Lamborghini and Bentley aren't the only major automakers skipping Paris. Ford, Volvo, and Aston Martin have all decided to save money and focus their efforts elsewhere. Related Video:
Recharge Wrap-up: Tesla charging times compared, VW's 70s hybrid tech
Fri, Mar 27 2015A video shows the difference in Tesla Model S charging speeds with different chargers. The video compares the 60- and 80-kWh versions of the car using a Tesla Supercharger, a CHAdeMo fast charger and Tesla's High Power Wall Connector (HPWC). With the Supercharger, both models charge from to 80 percent in 44 minutes. It's over an hour and a quarter for both cars with the CHAdeMo, but they're about neck and neck in terms of time. The HPWC takes the longest, with the 60-kWh car finishing long before the 85-kWh version. See the video above, and read more at Teslarati. Volkswagen had prototype hybrid technology back in the 1970s. A book called The Complete Book of Electric Vehicles by Sheldon Shacket describes the technology used in Volkswagen's Hybrid-Electric City Taxi prototype, which was based on the Type II microbus. It used the automaker's 1.6-liter air-cooled flat-four (borrowed from the Beetle) along with a Bosch DC shunt electric motor and 11 lead-acid batteries. Interestingly, the hybrid taxi prototype also featured an electric sliding door and a bulletproof bulkhead separating the driver from the passengers. Read more at Jalopnik, and at Green Car Reports. Country music star Lee Brice is going on tour fueled by biodiesel. Partnering with nonprofit environmental organization Reverb, Brice is using the biofuel to travel to college campuses. "We're hoping to offset the environmental impact of the tour by supporting clean energy projects and using buses and trucks fueled with locally produced biodiesel," says Brice, who is personally focused on natural preservation and water conservation.
