Conversion IS possible but I highly recommend against it if your interest is in collectability! Also have original sales brochure and original keychain. To commemorate the end of an era, Volkswagen decided to produce a Sedan called the "Ultima Edicion" or "Last Edition." Production of this special edition was limited to only 2999 units and sold only in Mexico. The Ultima Edicion draws elements from past and present models; this retro-styled Sedan really has a classic look. It is basically a standard Beetle, using the traditional torsion bar suspension, upright spare tire and flat windshield, with an updated engine and electronics. This vehicle lends itself well to the Wolfsburg emblems, chrome bumpers, mirrors and moldings that are all part of this classic--look Volkswagen, this special edition sold out quickly.
Only two colors have been chosen for the Ultima Edicion, Aquarius Blue and Harvest Moon Beige. Both colors have a vintage feel to them and come with black or gray interiors respectively. VW put a lot of time and effort into combining the best of old and new technologies by installing, in the traditional flat dashboard, an AM/FM/CD player. The sound system features four speakers, with two installed in the front door panels and two in the rear shelf over the cargo area. Never before has such an elaborate audio system been installed in a Sedan. Extra sound dampening material has been added to improve the sound quality and lessen road and engine noise. The dashboard is painted to match the exterior of the car and the driver's door panel has the well-known VW map pocket.
Other high tech features include a 1600cc engine with electronic fuel injection, front disc brakes, halogen headlights and a factory installed security system with immobilizer. But it's the exterior where the retro-style of the Ultima Edicion is most evident. Mounted on 15-inch steel wheels painted to match the exterior body color are wide whitewall tires. These nostalgic items combined with classic VW chrome hubcaps take you back to the past. VW hopes that the retro-look of the Sedan will allow people to reminisce and relive fond memories of one of the most beloved cars in the world.
This is a brand new model year 2004 Ultima Edicion with the following factory original features: Digifant Fuel Injection, electronic ignition, catalytic converter, hydraulic valve lifters (never adjust valves), HD 9mm valve screws, inclined valves, modern spin on oil filter, Golf style front disc brakes fed from dual circuit master cylinder, fully reclining seats, full alarm system plus separate engine immobilizer, intermittent windshield wipers with electric washer, H4 halogen headlights, lockable engine lid, locking fuel cap, trunk liner, fully galvanized fuel tank, full sized spare tire, complete body cavity protection (wax based rust proofing like all late model VWs), spray on sound deadening compound in fender wells, engine house and chassis also like most modern cars.

Help a couple drive their 1984 Vanagon around the world
Mon, 22 Apr 2013Meet Brad, Sheena and Nacho
Driving through China is a pricey proposition. The couple will need to pony up a staggering $19,514 just to cover the fees.
Brad and Sheena Van Orden are in the midst of a life-defining campaign to travel around the world, and they're doing it in a 1984 Volkswagen Vanagon custom built for the occasion. The past 15 months have seen the couple quit their jobs with Gore-Tex and drive from Arizona to the very southern tip of Argentina after spending a full two years saving and preparing for the trek. Now they're in southern Asia gearing up for the next leg of their journey.
Porsche board members facing another ˆ1.8B lawsuit over VW takeover bid
Mon, 03 Feb 2014Back in 2008, Porsche got the bright idea that it could take over Volkswagen in the midst of the worst economic slump since the Great Depression. Ignoring that this was a catastrophic move for the Stuttgart sports car manufacturer that that eventually resulted in it nearly going bankrupt and eventually being taken over by the same company it sought to control, the aftermath has left Porsche Chairman Wolfgang Porsche and board member Ferdinand Piëch in the crosshairs of seven hedge funds that lost out during the takeover and are now seeking €1.8 billion - $2.43 billion US - in damages from the two execs, according to the BBC.
See, investors bet on Volkswagen's share price going down, partially because Porsche said it wasn't going to attempt a takeover. But Porsche was attempting to take over VW, having bought up nearly 75-percent of VW's publicly traded shares. When word broke that Porsche owned nearly three-quarters of VW (which indicated an imminent takeover attempt), rather than go down like the hedge funds bet it would, VW's share price skyrocketed to over 1,000 euros per share, according to Reuters.
Naturally, when you bet that a company's share price is going to drop and it in turn (temporarily) becomes the world's most valuable company, you lose a lot of money, unless you're able to buy up shares before prices jump too much. This led to a squeeze on the stock, which the hedge funds accuse Porsche and Piëch (who are both members of the Porsche family and supervisory board) of organizing.
French probe alleges 2 million PSA cars had engine cheats
Fri, Sep 8 2017PARIS — A French investigation into alleged emissions cheating by PSA Group found that suspect software had been used on almost 2 million vehicles sold by the maker of Peugeot and Citroen cars, Le Monde reported on Friday. Paris-based PSA denies any use of fraudulent engine software, a spokesman said in response to the newspaper report, which sent PSA shares sharply lower. The stock was down 4.4 percent at 17.78 euros as of 1019 GMT. So-called "defeat devices" restrict exhaust output of toxic nitrogen oxides (NOx) under regulatory test conditions while letting emissions far exceed legal limits in real-world driving. In February, PSA became the fourth carmaker to be referred to French prosecutors by the country's DGCCRF watchdog over suspected emissions test-cheating, after Volkswagen, Renault and Fiat Chrysler. PSA's engineering chief acknowledged at the time that emissions treatment in the group's diesels was deliberately reduced at higher temperatures to improve fuel efficiency and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in out-of-town driving, where NOx output is considered less critical. According to Le Monde, an internal PSA document obtained by DGCCRF investigators includes discussion of the need to "make the 'defeat device' aspect less obvious and visible." However PSA insists there is nothing fraudulent or illegal about its engine calibrations. "PSA denies any fraud and firmly reaffirms the pertinence of its technology decisions," the company said on Friday.
