With only 104k miles, this will easily double if maintained well. The Carfax report claims that there has been no accidents, title issues, or odometer issues! The retail value is $6950, and our reserve is no where near that. In fact, we are willing to take $1500 less than retail if you wanted to buy this vehicle now! INTERIOR: Considering its size, I was able to get into the back seat comfortably, better than any other 2 door. The interior of this Beetle is all on great condition. The leather and other upholstery has no rips, tares and I did not notice any burn holes, indicating a previous non-smoker. There aren't any offensive odors either. The top does not leak and it is also in great shape. Opening and closing the top is so easy with one latch, and the electric motor is very quiet and effective. The radio works and sounds better than you would expect, like the factory upgraded it. There are heated seats equipped and they work great, the heat is also fully functional and a/c is cold. This interior needs nothing! EXTERIOR: The unique blue paint with the light colored top is a very neat combination that is hard to find. The body is in excellent shape. I have not noticed and flaws and the tires look new. The clear coat is still very smooth. The top has no leaks and the seems are in great shape also. This really is a hard find it this condition! MOTOR/HANDLING: The Beetle starts right up and idles like it should. There is no smoking or odd noises coming from the engine bay. There is an airbag light that is currently on. This will be looked into and can be fixed asap. Since Volkswagens have so many sensors, if there is any type of connection issue it will automatically throw a light on. In my experience, it has never been expensive to have this issue resolved. I am not a mechanic, but I do recommend you do some research so you can be a little more comfortable. The Volkswagen shifts right into gear with no hesitation or jumping. Accelerating is just how it should be and is very responsive, and the transmission is very smooth. The brakes do their job just fine and stop the car as expected. The suspension is quiet and very effective at making a smooth comfortable ride. No worries or complaints about this one! To find a 2004 Volkswagen Beetle in good shape is honestly a rarity. Most of the ones I have seen are beaten up and neglected all the way around. If you ever wanted one, now is a perfect opportunity! If you have a first time driver, it is nice to know that Volkswagen has a very high safety rating. This car is very effective at saving gas and is known to be very dependable. Audi buys Ballard fuel cell patents for $80 million
Wed, Feb 11 2015While some auto companies (e.g., Toyota and Hyundai) are giving away some hydrogen fuel cell patents, others are paying a pretty penny to gain access to the H2 tech. Audi announced today that it has purchased a suite of fuel-cell patent from Ballard Power Systems. The deal between Volkswagen Group and the Canadian fuel cell pioneer is worth over $80 million US. Unsurprisingly, the value of Ballard's stock shot up about a dollar (to $2.61 as of this writing) on the announcement. VW and Ballard will also extend their development agreement, originally scheduled to end in 2017, to March 2019, and possibly another two years after that. Thus far, the deal – which revolves around the "design and manufacture of next-generation fuel cell stacks" for VW's H2 demonstration program – and Ballard says it is a leader in "critical areas of fuel cell product design – including the membrane electrode assembly (MEA), plate and stack components – along with certain testing and integration work." At the LA Auto Show last fall, VW showed off a Golf SportWagen and a Passat with a hydrogen hybrid HyMotion powertrain as well as a Audi A7 Sportback H-Tron Quattro. Audi buys fuel-cell patents from Ballard Power Systems Development agreement with Ballard extended until 2019 Audi's Head of Development Prof. Hackenberg: "The entire VW Group will use these patents." Ingolstadt/Burnaby, February 11, 2015 – AUDI AG has acquired a package of patents relating to fuel-cell technology from Ballard Power Systems Inc. In addition, the Volkswagen Group has extended its cooperation with the Canadian clean energy company until 2019. The purchase of these patents will provide new impetus for the development of fuel-cell drive systems at Audi, VW and the Volkswagen Group. As explained by Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Member of the Board of Management for Technical Development at AUDI AG and responsible for the steering of the development departments of all brands in the VW Group: "Audi is acquiring these strategically important patents for the entire group and will make them available to all the brands. In this way, we are securing crucial expertise that will provide new impetus for the further development of this technology." Ballard Power Systems Inc. is based in Burnaby, Canada, and is one of the world's leading companies in the technology of proton exchange membrane fuel cells.
VW recalls another 6,700 vehicles over fuel leak [UPDATE]
Mon, Feb 2 2015UPDATE: An earlier version of this post suggested that the expanded recall involved an additional 44,658 units, when VW tells us that is in fact the total number - adding a further 6,679 to the original recall of 37,979. The text below has been updated accordingly, with our apologies for the confusion. It was a little over a month ago that Volkswagen issued a recall for some 38,000 vehicles over a potential fuel leak. Now the German automaker and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have expanded that recall, affecting even more vehicles for the same issue. The problem revolves around a sealing cap at the fuel rail, which could fail and cause fuel to leak into the engine compartment, thereby increasing the risk of a fire. This time around, VW is calling in a selection of Jettas, Passats, Golfs, GTIs, Beetles and Beetle Convertibles, all of them from the 2014 and 2015 model years (except the Golf and GTI, of which only 2015 models are being recalled). The recall now affects an estimated additional 6,679 units, which (in addition to the 37,979 recalled previously) brings the total up to 44,658 vehicles across the United States. SUMMARY: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Jetta vehicles manufactured March 28, 2014, to November 24, 2014, 2014-2015 Passat vehicles manufactured April 7, 2014, to November 18, 2014, 2015 Golf and GTI vehicles manufactured July 1, 2014, to November 20, 2014, and 2014-2015 Beetle and Beetle Convertible vehicles manufactured March 31, 2014, to November 27, 2014. A sealing cap at the fuel rail may fail, allowing fuel to leak into the engine compartment. CONSEQUENCE: A fuel leak, in the presence of an ignition source, can result in a vehicle fire. REMEDY: Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel rails with new parts, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in early February 2015.
